Scalpels and Handles Scalpels such as the Round Tip Scalpel Blade are specially designed to reduce the real dangers associated with puncture wounds from sharp pointed blade ends. With the Round Tip Scalpel Blade, it is virtually impossible to inflict a puncture wound. When used together with Cut Resistant or Safetyflex Gloves, staff will be significantly more protected when carrying out cut‑up or dissection procedures. For added security, the Scalpel Blade Remover enables scalpel blades to be taken off the blade handles safely and securely. The #22 Feather® brand scalpel blades are stainless steel, which provide a durable, precision edge. They are packaged individually and are sterile to maximize their applications. These blades are also available packaged with disposable, plastic handles. This is an excellent choice where isolation and disposal of the instrument is required to eliminate cross contamination.

Dissection Boards Section

Dissection Board The Dissection Board is constructed of a heavy duty, hard acrylic plastic material that makes it ideal for supporting soft tissues that are subjected to the cutting and dissection process. The shiny white or blue surface provides an excellent background contrast for visualizing specimens. They can easily be positioned on the board without slippage or moving around on the surface. The board is supported by five rubber feet that are positioned on each of the four corners and in the center to raise the board off the table or grossing station base. CODE 38DI02325

Biopsy Pads Biopsy Pads are made from open‑celled foam, which allows fluids to transfer safely and thoroughly around tissue while holding the specimen securely. To prevent floating and avoid artifacts, Biopsy Pads should be presaturated in fixative. The thin design helps eliminate excess pressure from being applied to unfixed specimens, reducing the risk of tissue sticking to the pads or fibers coming apart during embedding. Available in white or blue foam, circular or rectangular. The thinner pads also allow for less fluid carry‑over during processing. CODE 3800003 3801000 3801020 3801040 3801060 3801080

06 – PARAFFIN

Paraffin Paraplast® Paraplast is recommended for general tissue embedding. It is composed of a refined mixture of highly purified paraffin containing plastic polymers of regulated molecular weights. This supports improved tissue infiltration and superior quality sections with minimal compression. Paraplast gives brittle, difficult to section tissue an innate elasticity, promoting wrinkle‑free sections. It has a melting point of 56° C. Paraplast Plus is suggested for large tissue or tissue that may normally present infiltration issues. Paraplast Plus contains a small percentage of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), allowing accelerated tissue penetration. It has a melting point of 56° C. Paraplast X-tra is recommended for lower temperature infiltration which aids in the prevention of tissue distortion. It is composed of a unique blend of low molecular weight polymers and highly purified paraffins for compression resistance and ribbon continuity. Low viscosity permits complete infiltration of dense tissue. It has a melting point of 52° C. Paraplast High Melt embedding media is made from a combination of highly purified wax and plastic polymers of regulated molecular weights. Paraplast High Melt is most commonly used when sectioning with a sliding microtome and in exceedingly warmer climates where sectioning with conventional paraffins is difficult on rotary microtomes. It has a melting point of 60° C. CODE 39601006 39602012 39602004 39603002 39601095

Its low melting point (56 – 57 ºC) reduces potential artifactual distortion in tissues heated above 60º during paraffin impregnation. EM‑400 will remain stable even at elevated temperatures. It is available in a case of 10 x 2 lb (0.91 kg) lightweight bags to facilitate handling.

Blue Ribbon® Blue Ribbon is a universal paraffin containing synthetic polymers that can be used both as an infiltration and embedding medium. The bluish tint promotes better visibility of smaller or milky-colored/opaque specimens. The paraffin enables the impregnation of tissue to occur rapidly and completely. Its low melting point (56 – 58 ºC) means it is highly recommended for use with immunoperoxidase procedures. The wax however will remain stable even at elevated temperatures. It is available in a case of 10 x 2 lbs (0.91 kg) lightweight bags to facilitate handling. Commonly used in dermatology and urology laboratories. CODE 3801360

PELORIS ™ Parablocks Peloris Parablocks are pre‑formed blocks of paraffin that are provided in plastic molds. The pre‑formed blocks fit easily into the paraffin chamber of the PELORIS Tissue Processor and will melt faster than pellets or flakes. Once the chamber is filled with the solid paraffin blocks, there is no need for the technician to return later to determine the paraffin volume and add additional paraffin. Reduced risks since solid blocks eliminate pellet spills and the need to transfer molten paraffin. CODE 39V1001

Chemical Control Airchek® Badges Airchek Badges provide an innovative, simple and effective system to monitor vapor levels. Standard badges are available for formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde, xylene, toluene, and isopropanol. The Airchek badges provide continuous sampling for personal monitoring and can give the measurements required under government regulations. The badges are simply clipped on to the technician’s clothing and a record is kept of name, location and time. One badge will provide continuous sampling over 8 hours and a second badge can be used to supply information to analyze a 15-minute period during peak exposure. Both badges are then sent to Leica Biosystems to be forwarded to an independent accredited laboratory for analysis. CODE 3801850 3801852 3801854 3801856

D-Formalizer® Pads D-Formalizer Pads reduce formaldehyde exposure by absorbing and neutralising any excess formalin. The durable blue surface of the pads provides an excellent contrast to even small pieces of tissue. The Pads are also useful for soaking up leakage and deodorizing vapors in other applications. They can be used to line shelves which hold specimen containers that may seep formaldehyde around the lid, or to line transport boxes where leaks may occur. D-Formalizer Pads are available in various sizes and also in a convenient roll so that lengths can be cut as required. For best results, the D-Formalizer Pad Roll should be used with the D-Formalizer Pad Dispenser. Pads come in packs of 25 and sizes include 203 x 254 mm, 280 x 356 mm, 406 x 508 mm. D-Formalizer® Powder D-Formalizer is a safe chemical treatment for neutralizing spent formalin. It leaves a clear solution, free of solids and aldehyde odor, that can be disposed of without clogging the drains. Simply add one packet of D-Formalizer to a gallon of used formalin (or 4% glutaraldehyde) and agitate gently. After 15 minutes, the product can be safely poured down the drain in compliance with local ordinances. The resulting solution will have a pH between 6 and 9 and will be free of polymer by-product. An aldehyde kit is also available to test for residual aldehyde and includes 100 tests per box. D-Formalizer is available per package or in a case of 10 packages CODE 3800753

Formalin Control Granules® (F.C.G.) Unlike general absorption products, which soak up spillage, F.C.G. deactivates chemicals and converts formaldehyde into a solid slurry, inert mass of urea formaldehyde which can be disposed of as a non-hazardous waste. It is effective on 37% formaldehyde and takes just 10-15 minutes to convert the liquid to a solid slurry. Vapors will be neutralized in around 7-10 minutes. F.C.G. comes in an easy-to-hold pack containing 680 gm - enough for even large spillages. One side of the container allows F.C.G. to be poured, the other side allows it to be sprinkled less liberally for smaller incidents. Gloves Nitrile Glove The Nitrile Glove is made of 100% pure nitrile. It offers a higher level of resistance to nuisance nicks, cuts and abrasions and offers superior splash protection against irritating chemicals when compared to natural latex or vinyl equivalents. These gloves are just 4mls thin and provide excellent tactile sensitivity. After being worn for a short period of time, the glove conforms to your hand size for greater comfort and reduced perspiration. This special polymer formulation of nitrile does not allow adhesive label materials to stick to it. Thin nitrile exam gloves are three times more puncture resistant when tested against comparative natural latex and vinyl gloves. They are 9½” (24cm) long, ambidextrous and have textured fingers for a better grip. They come lightly powdered with cornstarch and now are also available powderless. 10 – STAINS AND REAGENT SOLUTIONS

Decalcifiers Decalcifier System Decalcifier I is a unique decalcifying solution that has the ability to fix and decalcify at the same time. Needle biopsies may be completely fixed and decalcified in one hour or less. Small bone specimens and calcified arteries may be completely fixed and decalcified in approximately 2‑4 hours. It is recommend to use 20 times the volume of the specimen. Following decalcification, the specimen is ready for processing without first having to wash. Tissues decalcified in this solution cut with ease and routine H&E techniques produce excellent stained sections. Larger specimens, 3 to 5 millimeters thick, can immediately be placed in Decalcifier I to fix and initiate decalcification overnight. The following morning, if the specimen is not yet decalcified, transfer it directly to Decalcifier II to complete demineralization that same day. The Surgipath Decalcifier I‑II combination can save valuable time and more importantly, valuable specimens. QUANTITY

Solvents Clearene Clearene is a selected blend of terpenes formulated specifically to replace xylene and toluene in histology and cytology laboratory procedures. It is less oily than other solvent substitutes and therefore dries quickly and does not leave a residue. Clearene penetrates tissue rapidly without overhardening and is safe to use with all open and closed system tissue processors. It is miscible with alcohols, paraffins and mounting media. It contains an antioxidant to prevent stain fading. Clearene is biodegradable and offers the desirable characteristics of a good solvent but not the harmful drawbacks of aromatic hydrocarbons such as xylene and toluene‑based products. CODE

CryoJane Tape Transfer System The CryoJane® Tape -Transfer System is a research use only instrument that creates frozen sections as thin as 2 microns with the same quality as sections cut from paraffin blocks. Sections are wrinkle-free, uncompressed, and fully intact when bonded to the CFSA microscope slide. CryoJane is suitable for routine cryosections and is indispensable for sectioning difficult tissues including brain tissue and undecalcified bone. Leica CryoJane® Advantages With the CryoJane Tape-Transfer System, thin tissue sections remain intact even after mounting. This makes CryoJane ideal for applications that require perfectly thin sections to clarify structural relationships and reveal morphological detail. The CryoJane Tape-Transfer System is adaptable to most Leica Cryostats. Sections can be fixed “anhydrously” to preserve virtually all fine structures present in the snap-frozen block of tissue. •

Water-soluble enzymes, antigens and nucleo-proteins are preserved in situ.

With appropriate fixation and staining, true localization of enzyme and antigen activity can be visualized.

The bond between the section and the slide is solvent resistant and permanent, preventing section loss during staining. CODE 39475205 39475206 39475207 39475285 39475208 39475209 39475214 39475226 39475212 39475216 39475217 39475218 39475220 39475270 39475271 39475272
