A Police Story from the past Dad was community minded and went to a football club meeting in his first year at Inverleigh. He was appointed senior coach and the team won the Woolworth section premiership. After the match he told the players "The town is yours tonight, but I do not want to be called out". I remember a large procession of cars making all soughs of noises slowly coming up the main street, turning at the police station and finishing at Victoria Park which was the original football oval. As things were progressing at the oval with a BBQ and everyone was enjoying themselves, Dad was advised somebody had a gun on them. He immediately went into action to try and find the offender. Unbeknown to him, two of his players sprang into action, followed him and acted as his body guard , if things had got out of hand. The offender was eventually caught, but I don’t know what the outcome was. Whilst on the end of year football trip, Dad was at the front of the bus and one of the players started to get unruly. One of the "bodyguards" said "Don’t worry Harold, I have just put him to sleep for a little while for you". Harold was president and received life memberships from both the golf and tennis clubs. He had a motorized golf buggy and on one occasion when playing in a group of four, he could not start his buggy. It just happened they were playing on the farthest hole from the club house. One of the players said with a funny smile “your spark lead has come off “. Dad soon realized that he had been set up. How many people would be game to do that to the local policeman in fear of retribution? He knew his people and they let it be known they could be counted on at any time.

Creative ideas came from the many diverse entries received in the Inverleigh Youth Precinct Vision Competition, which I was pleased to support last year. I know how hard the Inverleigh community has been working to gain support for a Youth Precinct in the town.

And I especially know that young people in Inverleigh are passionate about having a place to connect, ride bikes, skateboard, play sport and come together. That’s why I was thrilled to back a competition for young people, seeking their concepts and ideas of what a youth precinct in their town should look like. I donated a mountain bike to the person with the most innovative ideas and best presented concepts. It was an impressive entry by Jack Stones which got the judges’ attention. Jack is now the proud owner of the bike which I was able to present to him at a Friday night film night in December. The many entries submitted included elements such as a bike track, skate park and social basketball facilities. The standard of entries was so high that I also presented ‘highly commended’ certificates to Manon Guijt, Harry Weiler and Jasper Willoughby. Well done to everyone who entered.

HAVE YOUR SAY ON COUNCIL CUSTOMER SERVICE

Council is seeking feedback to shape the development of the Draft Customer Service Strategy 2022-2026.

As part of the Council Plan 2021-2025, Council is dedicated to improving customer experiences with the development of its Customer Service Strategy 2022-2026. With a focus on commitment and accountability to service standards and improving timely responses, the Strategy will detail Council’s dedication to delivering exceptional customer service across the organisation. To help shape Council’s Draft Customer Service Strategy 2022-2026, community members are invited to complete one of two surveys. The Customer Service Strategy Community Survey is collecting feedback from customers on what you think Council is doing well, what can be improved, and how you want to engage with us in the future. Council is also seeking responses to the Customer Service Strategy Post-Interaction Survey, which focuses on feedback from specific customer experiences, as well as ideas on future improvement. The Customer Service Strategy Surveys are open from Thursday 20 January to 5pm, Monday 14 February, 2022. The survey can be completed at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/consultations or pick up a copy of the survey at Council’s Customer Service Centre, 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn. Completed paper surveys may be emailed to enquiries@gplains.vic.gov.au or mailed to: Golden Plains Shire Council, PO Box 111, Bannockburn, VIC, 3331, marked ‘Attention: Customer Service Strategy Survey’. Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble encouraged residents to complete a survey and share their ideas for the Draft Strategy. “In the Council Plan 2021-2025, Council made a commitment to develop and deliver a new Customer Service Strategy and these surveys are the exciting start of this important project. The survey responses are an important part of improving our care and commitment to serving the Golden Plains community. “With this consultation, we want to know about positive and negative experiences, what Council does well and what could be better. We’re also interested in new and different ways that customers may want to interact with Council such as web chat or in person at community locations and events. “On behalf of Council, we encourage customers to complete the Post-Interaction Survey and everyone is invited to complete the Community Survey. We look forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas to work together on a new Customer Service Strategy that best serves the Golden Plains Shire community.”
