CAS Creativity Action Service

LEIGHTON PARK’S AIM

“To develop internationally-minded people, who, recognising their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world.”

WHAT IS CAS?

o CAS stands for Creativity, Action, Service. It is a framework for experiential learning, designed to involve students in new roles

o The programme emphasises the importance of learning by doing

o Students are encouraged to become changemakers using their strengths and skills to make a difference

o CAS activities involve working collaboratively and provide opportunity for growth and reflection.

CREATIVITY is interpreted broadly to include a wide range of arts activities as well as the creativity students demonstrate in designing and implementing service projects.

ACTION can include not only participation in individual and team sports but also taking part in expeditions and in local or international projects.

SERVICE encompasses a host of community and social service activities. Some examples include helping children with special needs, visiting hospitals, and working with refugees or homeless people.

“CAS gives students the opportunity to learn by doing things, and to do that with a purpose, for example, helping a charity of their choice. Some courses could be more challenging than others, but that’s ok as the target is, also, to learn about yourself. Students are also given the opportunity to reflect on their learning process.”

QUAKER FAITH AND PRACTICE

“We do not own the world, and its riches are not ours to dispose of at will. Show a loving consideration for all creatures, and seek to maintain the beauty and variety of the world. Work to ensure that our increasing power over nature is used responsibly, with reverence for life. Rejoice in the splendour of God’s continuing creation.”
