Lisa Morgan, “Boundaries”, oil on canvas, 136cm x 198cm, $6500 My work talks of certain places in landscape or time, in seasons and in moments. Each piece has a relevant meaning and importance to me. I enjoy playing with different textures, different detailing, different shapes. Through the medium of paint and canvas there is always a story to tell of the landscape I love.

Focusing on the often disregarded and ordinary landscapes that are rushed past on the way to some undefined destination, her work draws together ideas of ‘landscape’ with how we experience nature in this busy digital age.

Melissa Hirsch, “Tribal Drop”, jacaranda, jute, palm, raffia, feathers, 120 cm x 100 cm, $890 The origins of working with plant fibres are ancient. Australian Aboriginals used fibres from hundreds of native plants to make rope, string, mats and baskets before European settlement. Byron Bay-based artist Melissa Hirsch continues this tradition, creating works from plant fibres mostly sourced from local urban landscapes, using a variety of weaving techniques. Describing herself as a ‘fibre artist,’ Melissa feels a connection to the lineage of makers who work with plant fibres.

Michael Cusack, “Manders”, oil on linen, 180cm x 160cm, $12000 “Michael Cusack’s signature aesthetic is one of disciplined understatement. Through rehearsal and experiment his paintings have acquired a poise and latent tension that is the legacy of two influential phases of his life. The first of these was the Irish-born artist’s early life in Dublin, with its cultural mainstays of storytelling and music; the second ... when he discovered ‘white’ and Minimalism ... his use of haloed shapes and vessels can be particularly poignant. They seem vulnerable, fragile, and become vehicles of mysterious promise, keepers of secrets and stories; no two the same.” - Meryl Ryan (excerpt)
