Unlike most waterbirds, the Mandarin duck was introduced to the UK from China and is now well established, nesting high up in trees close to rivers, lakes and canals. Mandarin Arts has recently added an elegant dark green stool to its collection, featuring a pair of Mandarin ducks swimming past colourful waterlilies. Such traditional Chinese stools come into their own during hot weather, remaining much cooler than conventional upholstered furniture. With their flat tops, they can easily turn into small tables or side tables during colder months - they can also play host to lamps. Another popular stool is the Hummingbird feeding on nectar from tropical flowers, which has a satin rather than a glossy finish. Meanwhile, perfect for drinking refreshing cups of jasmine, gunpowder or green tea at any time of year, the HQT013 tea set has a ‘framed’ picture design on the teapot and each cup features two birds on the branches of a cherry tree which is in full blossom. The HQT014 tea set features cascading wisteria with a bird perched on a branch and a butterfly flitting amongst flowers. Both sets have removable metal tea strainers and bamboo handles. The brainchild of Norwegian artist Karen Lind, Messengers were originally created as gifts for friends and family during the pandemic - a time when we all could have used a little more love.
Now, Lind’s birds are available for all to enjoy with six contemporary Scandinavian-styled designs to choose from: Red Some Love, Yellow Smile, Dark Blue Peace, Light Blue Hug, Indigo Support, and Purple Inner Strength.
Underneath each piece there is a rolled message - relevant to the nature of the bird - printed on natural cotton fabric and tied with a jute string, hidden inside of the form of the cast stone sculpture. Each Messenger measures 7cm tall and is presented in a kraft gift box with shredded fill inside.
Meanwhile, Eau Lovely is a collection built to encourage people to live their happiest, most positive lives possible. Designed by perfumier Rachel McCann in Dublin, the collection consists of fragranced candles and reed diffusers.
