Exclusive First Look At koo-di Relaunch

Weybury Hildreth Ltd shares plans for brand evolution and reveals upcoming Harrogate launch

Weybury Hildreth Ltd, the parent company behind longstanding nursery brands Purflo, Pink Lining and koo-di, will be at Harrogate showcasing innovative products from Purflo and a completely new identity and range relaunch from koo-di. Nursery Today are excited to be the first to reveal Koo-di’s new brand identity and give a first look at the range. koo-di has been established since early 2009 and has been a sleeping lion in the nursery industry. With consistent trade sales and a number of awards the collection of essential products have been a dependable bet for buyers for the last 12 years. However, following a successful rebuild of Purflo’s brand and marketing activity over the past two years the team at Weybury Hildreth saw an opportunity to develop the koo-di range and turn it into a fully formed brand that would excite and appeal to today’s consumer.

The fresh new koo-di identity puts fun at the forefront, with a contemporary colour palette of bright turquoise, mustard, burnt orange and teal. Each practical and hardwearing product is stamped with a signature ‘K’ logo so there can be no mistaking that it’s a hero of the koo-di collection.

With the aim of raising ‘big little smiles’, the design focussed products are an evolution of koo-di’s tried and tested best selling range. The product experts at Weybury Hildreth selected the most popular lines from koo-di’s existing range and supercharged them with innovative new materials, stylish new colours and added features to delight parents. With fun running through everything koo-di creates, the products have lighthearted names such as the ‘Ice Ice Baby’ cooler box, the ‘Real Sunshady’ stroller cover and the ‘Oopsie Do Do’ car seat protector. The website is also going to relaunch as a fully redeveloped brand platform, showcasing the new products and communicating the fun and personality of the new Koo-di to parents through a custom built site that will be ahead of the curve in internet brand presence.

Richard Trott, Managing Director of Weybury Hildreth Ltd said: “They say if it aint broke don’t fix it, but we are going against that advice with koo-di. As nerve wracking as it is to mess about with a solid brand with decent performance, the success and sales growth we have seen following the Purflo rebrand has given us the confidence to teach this old dog new tricks. I know Koo-di has massive potential to ignite the imaginations of kids and become a brand that parents The fresh new koo-di identity puts fun at the forefront, with a contemporary colour palette of bright turquoise, mustard, burnt orange and teal. really love, and I can’t wait for retailers to join us on this journey as we put a rocket beneath koo-di.

“Our vision and longer term goal at Weybury Hildreth is to create a house of brands which each have their own distinct identity, their own loyal fan base and each tap into a clear market opportunity” koo-di has always existed as a collection of products, but with the new branding and investment in product development, as well as a strategic marketing plan, it will relaunch at Harrogate as a complete and cohesive range story.

The koo-di stand will be next to WHL’s other shining light - Purflo. Since rebranding in 2020 Purflo has gone from strength to strength, seeing huge sales increases across the range, recently securing new listings with John Lewis and Jojo Maman Bebe. Purflo has also proven to be a destination brand at independent nursery

stores who have worked with the team to create beautiful in store displays that clearly demonstrate the unique features and benefits of the products, giving parents trust and confidence and increasing average transaction totals.

As you would expect, Purflo will showcase their award winning range of swaddles and baby sleep bags - they are also celebrating their 25th anniversary this month!

There has been a lot of buzz in the industry about the Purflo Sleep Tight Baby Bed, the only nest shaped baby bed which is certified safe for overnight sleep. Curious attendees can go and get hands on with the Sleep Tight Bed and see for themselves how it differs from traditional cushioned nests and adheres to safer sleep guidelines.

Purflo will also be revealing a brand new crib which is due to launch in Spring 2022. Harrogate will be the very first time a prototype of this science-led crib will be shown in public, and the WHL team are looking forward to demonstrating how all of the years of experience Purflo have in breathable technology and baby sleep safety have been incorporated into the design of the new PurAir Crib.

Purflo has also proven to be a destination brand at independent nursery stores who have worked with the team to create beautiful in store displays that clearly demonstrate the unique features and benefits of the products, giving parents trust and confidence and increasing average transaction totals.

Weybury Hildreth Ltd will be on stand Q51 at Harrogate International Nursery Fair. To book an appointment to see all the new koo-di and Purflo products email ruth@whleurope.com or natasha@whleurope.com

How many days will you be visiting the show for?

We are attending for two days.

Have you pre-planned your visit with regard to appointments?

Yes, we feel that pre-planning with appointments is important for our visit to Harrogate.

What will your focus be while at the show - for example, is there a particular product category that you are searching for?

For us, our focus will be to visit our existing suppliers and find new products that we don’t currently stock.

As an industry it’s been so long since we’ve all been able to meet - what are you most looking forward to while being at the nursery fair?

We are really looking forward to meeting up with fellow retailers - if you see us, please stop and say hello!

Debbie Homer-Davies

BABY LADY

How many days will you be visiting the show for?

We are attending for two full days.

Have you pre-planned your visit with regard to appointments?

Yes we have pre-booked some appointments and have also ensured we allow time for browsing.

What will your focus be while at the show - for example, is there a particular product category that you are searching for?

We are looking for new innovation but we also need to add to our bedding and furniture ranges. We will of course look forward to seeing in person, new products from our current suppliers.

How important are show only offers to you?

Obviously show offers always help but only if it means we get to make better margin. If everyone goes back and discounts what they have bought then actually show offers make things worse. They dilute the margin you are making and don’t actually create more demand at all.

As an industry it’s been so long since we’ve all been able to meet - what are you most looking forward to while being at the nursery fair?

Seeing people - we have missed seeing people from the nursery industry.

How many days will you be visiting the show for?

We’re really looking forward to Harrogate this year and there already feels like there’s going to be a real buzz about the show. Personally I’ve planned 2 days… the first to see the products and key accounts and the second day to spend hungover after an evening catching up with some suppliers/ industry friends!

Have you pre-planned your visit with regard to appointments?

We’ll have 6 staff attending the first 2 days, all with pre-booked appointments and then we’ll have some of our shop staff from our shiny new store attending the last day, as we’d like them to be able to see first-hand what is on the horizon!

What will your focus be while at the show?

To be honest I haven’t got a primary focus for the show. If something is amazing and stands out then I’ll be certain to check it out, however, we have a brilliant key range that works for us, which keeps our product managers very busy, so we’re not looking for a major overhaul or anything. Harrogate this year for me is more of a laid back, fun-fair which we’re really looking forward to being part of.

KIDDIES KINGDOM

How many days will you be visiting the show for?

We will be visiting Harrogate International Nursery Fair for all three days of the event (Sunday-Tuesday) as the event offers an important opportunity for us to meet with our valued suppliers, as well as any new brands that we can look to onboard into our business.

Have you pre-planned your visit with regard to appointments?

Yes, most of our visits are booked with appointments as we want to ensure that we get the most out of our time with the suppliers that we are keen to see, and those we would like to get to know a little better. During these appointments, we will discuss any new lines that suppliers are bringing out, as next year’s collections’ prototypes for lots of products will be displayed at the show.

What will your focus be while at the show - for example, is there a particular product category that you are searching for?

We don’t have a particular product category that will be our focus at the show, as we are interested in all products available, from baby furniture to safety gates and push chairs to car seats. Outside of searching for new and exciting products, we’re also looking forward to using our time at the show to build on our relationships.

How important are show only offers to you?

Show-only offers are important to keep our deals and sales fresh on both our website and in-store. Big buying decisions will be made from the show offers, helping us bring more convenient shopping to our customers, as we can package items in bundles with better margins for us as a business.

As an industry it’s been so long since we’ve all been able to meet - what are you most looking forward to while being at the nursery fair?

We are really looking forward to physically meeting with suppliers and getting a feel for new products that are soon to be launched. We are also looking forward to having a sneak peek at some of the new lines that offer innovative thinking into technology, as the baby and nursery industry grows more into this sector. Specific innovative products that we’ll be on the lookout for include 360 spin car seats and ISO-FIX bases, smaller compact travel strollers and more electronic cribs.
