Like 2019, the year’s diary is once again full of “innovative projects” with group chief executive officer Adrien Thominet telling Freightweek that running through all these projects is a common goal “to diversify and strengthen” its service. “ECS’s diary for 2020 is once again full of innovative projects in a very wide range of areas, but they all have a common goal: to diversify and strengthen our service offering so we can continue to bring improved performance to our freight forwarder and airline clients, and of course to achieve TCM services of the highest quality,” he says. CALLING ALL AGENTS

The role of general sales and service agents is evolving with the ever-changing needs of airlines and the industry. Keith Mwanalushi examines how they are responding to the current air cargo environment. Lately, the performance of the air cargo industry has been relatively grim. The picture painted by IATA recently shiws that 2019 was the worst year for air freight demand since 2009. Full-year figures for 2019 showed that demand, measured in freight tonne kilometres (FTKs), fell by 3,3% compared to 2018. READ ARTICLE PAGES 30 - 32

In conversation with Cargo Trends, Steven Polmans, Chairman TIACA, mentioned that TIACA is in a unique position to represent and unite air cargo players, toxards common goals, and work with industry partners, in both the private and the public sectors, in the areas of safety, security, trade facilitation, digital transformation and sustainability. He further mentioned that Sustainability as a major gamechanger will be one of TIACA’s priorities this year. TIACA JOINS FORCES WITH CLIVE DATA

The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) will deliver the latest market and route analyses to its members after signing an intelligence sharing agreement with CLIVE Data services, creators of the new ‘dynamic load factor’ analyses. «As part of the transformation of TIACA, we are promissing to deliver more content to our growing membership - but only content of value to their businesses and which accurately represents and promotes the global air cargo industry. CLIVE’s dynamic load factor is registering a lot of interest because it breaks with tradition and is changing the way air cargo usage is measured based on the realities of today’s market. READ COVER

TIACA LOOKS AHEAD TO PARTNERSHIP WITH IATA

Two of the leading lights of the air cargo industry have partnered up in an effort to improve efficiencies and the overall practice of the sector and in turn have their eyes set on a bigger prize. Together with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), TIACA is looking to facilitate ever greater flows of global trade. TIACA’s secretary general Vladimir Zubkov sat down with Freightweek to discuss both the partnership and the strategy of the two giants of air cargo. “Collaboration between TIACA and IATA is based on the common objectives, one of the key tasks is facilitation of air cargo movement through the supply chain, which in turn has an even greater objective – facilitation of the global trade,” says Zubkov. LEMON QUEENS SITS DOWN WITH FREIGHTWEEK

Audrey Serdjebi spent nigh on a decade heading up global GSSA ECS’s media and communications team. Now, Serdjebi has set off on her own with the launch of her new comms outfit Lemon Queen - whilst retaining ECS as a client – taking those years of insight into the airfreight sector with her. She sat down with Freightweek to give her views on how the industry has changed during her time in it, and where she thinks it is headed. “The industry has always been a hive of activity,” says Serdjebi. “But the enthusiasm or sense of urgency that digital transition provokes clearly shows that we need to rise to a new level. LEMON QUEEN AIMS TO PUT NEW ZEST INTO COMMUNICATIONS

There is a new air freight communications company in town. Interestingly named Lemon Queen is the brainchild of Audrey Serdjebi, former chief communications and marketing officer of ECS Group. “Our goal is to offer a high-quality service while taking a different approach to improving the reputation of industry stakeholders.” Audrey Serdjebi headed ECS Group communications for eight years, culminating in her taking the lead in the group’s highly successful NextGen Challenge. GOD SAVE THE (AIRFREIGHT) QUEEN Lemon Queen is a new communication agency for the air freight industry that is based on the founder’s near-decade experience in marketing for Paris-based GSSA ECS Group. Audrey Serdjebi left her role this month as ECS’s head of communication and marketing to establish the agency.
