ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER
become a senior rep
the photographer
Lena hart I come from a family of photographers, musicians and educators. Creativity has always been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I‘ve always loved painting, drawing and building. I discovered my love for photography some time after art school. I am 100% self taught in photography. When I first started shooting I was terrified to photograph people, a lot of my early work is architectural and street photography. Portraiture came into my life unexpectedly. My friends and I thought it would be fun to put together a mock fashion shoot. We had a makeup artist and a hair stylist, three of my friends turned into models for the day and together we created an amazing set of images. This was back in New York, in the middle of January, about 9 degrees outside. We spent 6 hours shooting and created a set of images that is still one of my favorites of all time. After that mock photoshoot I had a new appreciation for capturing the human spirit and the beauty as well as the process of creating stunning portraits. So in 2012 I officially decided to focus all of my attention on mastering portraiture and I couldn‘t be happier with my choice. My approach to portraiture is very simple: I am inspired by real life and real life environments. I shoot on location of your preference to capture the absolute best moments. It’s the big smile when you’ve accomplished something you believed impossible. It’s the strength in your body language when you fell down and picked back up to take another first step. Our experiences shape us and guide us. Our choices inspire us and our determination keeps us believing in the strength and beauty we carry within. These are the key elements, the shiny pieces that make us beautiful. The real deal is right there within you. I want to meet you and I want to be the one to tell your story.
where it all began
why you should choose me as your photographer When you choose me to be your photographer, I put all of my years of experience and knowledge of photographing and editing to work. I pay attention to details - clothes, hand placement, chin & neck, posture and the environment in which we shoot. I look for best light - just before sunset is my favorite (also known as golden hour), I make sure there aren‘t any harsh shadows on your face and that the light serves more than just for proper exposure, the light is something that creates a mood, a feeling. I capture natural, beautiful moments - smiles that are real, laughter that looks like straight out of a magazine, emotions that connect the viewer to the moment. I do not outsource my editing. This means that every image is toned, corrected and edited by me with one mission in mind - to make you look your absolute best and to make the viewers fall in love with the moment. Your portrait session is one of a kind, a work of art and I take great pride in being able to deliver just that!
Where to Shoot? THE LOCATION you choose for your portraits sets the mood for your shoot, so choose wisely! Most of my portrait shoots take place outdoors, any natural place with plenty of greenery and character will work. The park, the beach, or the city... we can create beautiful portraits anywhere as long as the style matches your personality. Make sure there is a good light source at your location. Going deep into the woods is fun, but there may not be enough available light. Also, if it‘s cloudy on the day of your shoot, do not be worried! Clouds are your friends. Think of them as your natural diffusers. A diffuser softens shadows, direct light and spreads the light evenly. You won‘t squint and your skin tones won‘t be washed out by a beam of light.
If we are lucky to have a gorgeous sunny day without a cloud in the sky, I will still look for an area with shade, turn you away from the sun so that you‘re not squinting, or use my giant diffuser to create a „cloud“ above you.
KEEP IN MIND if we are shooting in a park and your outfit is mostly green, you will blend in with the background. Make sure to plan your outfits accordingly. Best time for portraits is usually 1-2 hours before sunset or 1 hour before sunrise. This is when the light is best - soft, natural and warm. If your shoot is mid-day it‘s not a bad thing, we‘ll work with what we have, find some shade and make it happen.
THINK TEXTURE COLOR & LIGHT TEXTURE - tall grassy field, exposed brick wall, sand & waves, unique architecture. COLOR - brightly painted wall, flowering trees or garden, the gorgeous Gulf waters. LIGHT - sun beaming through the leaves of a tree or between the city buildings, sunset hour aka golden hour, morning light.

WHAT TO WEAR
Your Style Wear something that defines your style and makes you feel good. I recommend having 1-2 outfits available in addition to what you wear when we start your shoot. Bring something dressy and something casual and fun. Feel free to even bring your prom dress or tux. Pay close attention to wrinkles and lint, if possible always iron/steam your clothes before the shoot. Always wear your second or third favorite outfit first, save the best for last!
Keep it Simple You can bring props if you play sports, music or have unique hobbies. But most importantly, have fun and don’t stress too much as you get ready for your session. It really doesn’t matter what you wear or bring, what matters is that you enjoy the process.
For the Guys If you’re not sure what to wear, think: simple & something that reflects your personality. If you don’t normally wear khakis, don’t wear khakis to your shoot. For an instant classic look wear a simple button down. Wear layers, add an accessory or a pop of color. For example: think hat, scarf, watch, sunglasses, vest, jacket. Make sure your clothes fit you well and you are comfortable wearing them. You’ll feel much more confident in front of a camera when your outfit makes you feel good.

your session
what’s included
Your portrait session includes a photo shoot on location of your choice and a private online gallery. I will guide you every step of the way. I have years of experience shooting and guiding people who love the camera and those who are afraid of it! I have an easy going approach to every session. I love capturing natural moments, not posed ones. Sometimes certain images require a little bit of posing, however I have an eye for making these moments look and feel completely natural. I will never make you do anything you don’t want to do and I promise to make you look and feel like a million bucks. 1-2 weeks after your photo shoot, your images will be uploaded into a private online gallery where you will be able to view them, share them, and order prints as well as gallery wrap canvases. The online gallery eliminates waiting for a CD or a USB and then going through the process of deciding where to print. I work with a professional printing lab so your portraits are printed on professional quality paper & your gallery wraps will look and feel high-end. Once you’ve placed your order right from the gallery you’ll be able to track your shipment.
