Cromwell’s Creek Fall 2016 | STUDIO 5 | Critic: Meta Brunzema - Creek as a connection space within the community / as a void that can be infilled with new activities / as a constantly evolving, floating, and adaptable process rather than a static, finished object. - The “creek” floats through space on all levels and plays the role of a bridge between different activities.

PROGRAM DIAGRAM

creek: possibilities for the growth adoptable space

WEEKDAYS: - coworking spaces (isolation) - renable offices - bike’s parking lots - lunch zones

BASIC

W W 16

A century ago Cromwell’s Creek in the Bronx formed many activities for the surroundings: it gave the place for leisure and for work: nice shady corners for picnics, gardens, zones for manufacturing and production were located along its banks. The new multifunctional complex is designed around public zone “Creek” that goes through the whole project. As the river served different needs and it’s bank’s could be adjusted due to different needs - with the sand dunes, decks, bridges, the same way this public zone is the constantly modifying space, that can be modified with steps, furniture, movable walls and partitions, flower beds and shelves.

SPECIAL OCCASION’S EXPANSION:

WEEKEND: - bridges - stairs - family time - performance stage - neighborhood markets - outdoor theater

- ice rink (winter) - holidays - farmer markets - flee merkets - exhibitions, seminars (combined spaces)

PRIMARY SCHOOL AND INTERNATIONAL MEDIA CENTER Spring 2015 | STUDIO 2 | Critic: Gisela Baurmann Conceptual approach is based on Frei Otto’s experiments

Frei Otto | form-finding thread models

“The analogue model finds the minimal path system, that is, the system connects a distributed set of given points, thus the overall length of the path system is minimised. Each point is reached but there is a considerable imposition of detours between some pairs of points. The system is a tree (branching system) without any redundant connections.” Frei Otto, Apparatus for computing minimal path systems, Institute for Lightweight Structures (ILEK), Stuttgart, 1988

Experimental project based on the connections that occur within the primary school. Where is the boundary between individual / small group and public activities? The classes (nests) are semi enclosed spaces can be combined with other classes or activities. Teachers and student are encouraged to explore the possibility of connections between class rooms and art classes, labs and so on. The design allows to use the space separately or to combine several rooms into one.

RESIDENTIAL PROJECT Spring 2014 | Critics: Vladimir Kiselev, Nadejda Voskresenskaya Modular housing system

POLYCULTURAL CAMPUS International competition Textures of memories

The project is aiming to create a poly-cultural zone on the campus territory* where students from different towns and countries could experience the connection with their homeland and study other’s cultures through the traditional crafts and arts. *This model could be applied to any diverse community - school, neighborhood, district, town. C R A F T - L A Y E R S The term craft is used to describe the specific decorative or utilitarian art that was traditional in someone’s house / family / town. Students from different lands could bring their “artifacts” that illustrate their home-idea: - tiles, pieces of fabrics, wooden panels, paintings, plates, books, shelves, rocks etc. It is also possible to create something on-site with the use of traditional stock and vernacular techniques: - painted patterns, tailoring, modeling, origami, welding, mosaics, knitting, color palettes etc. This constantly updated public place with the collection of private home-idea layers H O M E

L A Y O U T

There aren’t any particular divisions on different cultural zones, the campus is divided by functions. As a real home, it consists of usual areas: - Kitchen: cafeterias with the national cuisine and cooking classes food festivals - Living rooms: for the national music classes and performances, traditional holidays celebration, international fairs, table games, movie theater, and traditional theater stage - Home offices: the place where shops and studios located (wood, metal, modeling), handicraft stores, museums (opportunities for the apprenticeship for the art students) - Library: with the foreign languages books and language classes - Bedrooms: semi-private zones for the meeting with friends

Clip-On library is made of one single piece of steam-pressed plywood. Curves make natural pockets to be filled in with books and magazines. The shelves are enclosed with the translucent glass panels. Linear LED-lighting is wrapping the whole element, going in and out - bringing the light in the glass boxes and illuminating the bench at the same time.
