2011-2012 THE RIGHT RACE AT THE RIGHT MOMENT
2011-2012
THE EVENT The 2011-12 Global Ocean Race – a truly unique 24-month long branding and marketing opportunity that will carry the name of its Title Sponsor to a wide international audience. The Right Race at the Right Time – an affordable and achievable around the world yacht race for skippers and sponsors alike. Organisers anticipate 15-20 entries,14 are confirmed already, all double-handed crews racing aboard near-identical 40 foot yachts. This second running of the event will be one of the biggest round the world races in existence. The event lasts nine months, the promotion 24 months. The Host Ports for the Race – Mallorca, Cape Town, Wellington, Punta del Este, Charleston then back to the finish in Mallorca. Three-week stopovers in each port provide superb promotional opportunities for sponsors.
“Josh Hall has project managed two of my last three round the World races and so it is no surprise to me that his own race was a huge success. The Class 40 is a great concept for a boat and the Global Ocean Race is a fantastic event for them. It provides an affordable platform for sailors with dreams and budding professionals alike. I expect to see some of Josh’s skippers lining up against me in Open 60 races before too long.” Alex Thomson, Open 60 Skipper – Hugo Boss
“I am excited to be racing a Class 40 this year. They are a fantastic boat for racing around the buoys or indeed around the world. Josh Hall and his team have certainly created a highly competitive and costeffective event for Class 40 skippers to test their skills on a global race course”. Mike Golding, Open 60 and Class 40 Skipper – Ecover
“An awesome test of tenacity, fortitude and determination. Josh Hall’s Global Ocean Race is one of the few inclusive ocean races, where professionals can race alongside private owners with a dream. The boats can withstand the test of the Oceans and yet are much more affordable compared with the Volvo and IMOCA boats. Teams can push hard and then rest and enjoy the fabulous stopovers. This race deserves to flourish.” Dee Caffari, Open 60 Skipper – Aviva

STOPOVER PORTS Mallorca has been chosen for the start and finish of the Global Ocean Race providing a stylish, glamorous and multi-cultural backdrop to the event. Mallorca’s rich maritime history and current position as a globally recognised centre of nautical excellence provides the perfect venue for both race entries and race sponsors. The stopover ports of Cape Town, Wellington, Punta del Este and Charleston have been carefully chosen to provide the best possible course for the competitors and perfect venues to host the fleet and stage promotional events for the race sponsors and suppliers, including those of our entries. The fleet will be in each stopover port for approximately three weeks allowing ample time for cultural and business-to-business exchanges, as well as local and international media opportunities.
