Architecture Without Content, Kestern Geers Bachelor semester 3
ÂŤOver time, Architecture without Content came to represent an idea of a possible architecture of the perimeter, a pragmatic kind of architecture that remains radical and precise. Places of Accumulation are both places of production and places of storage. They are buildings which concentrate the very essence of our contemporary infrastructure. In most cases they are not considered as possible sites for an architectural project. Places of Accumulation investigate the possibility to accumulate formal knowledge in buildings that do not deserve a specific architectural treatment. Their presence is all they have, but perhaps that is enough. Places of Accumulation start from the presumption that it might be possible to ignore content and still make precise architecture. For that reason we will make form first, and contemplate content later. Places of Accumulation will start as a set of portraits of building types. We will first scrutinize their potential as possible architectures, their form, their principles ... Then we will investigate their urban impact. Finally we will represent their potential as a critical project.Âť Our ancestor was the Centro Torri from Aldo Rossi, as his building invented a new typology of suburban mall without questioning the commercial essence of the operation and the basic requirements of an established type, Rossi was able to inject a massive dose of civic elements to the volume. We took that opportunity to create a new typology for vertical farm. The idea was to create a volume that can work with the typology observed with our ancestor. For example we took the pitched roof of Rossi and we extended it to the Whole building and then worked with the shape to collect the water in corner, which increased the perspective from the back side. The building works as a whole as a machine.

Perspectives
Tempoary Residence,Kestern Geers Bachelor semester 4
“In the second semester, site plays a much more direct role. There is a good reason for that. Temporary Residence is in many ways the inverse of Machines. Site and territory will be the defining factors for the architectural type. As much as each of the designed buildings will be autonomous, it will be precisely its performance ‘on site’ that will be considered.” The project is a social housing, situated on the border of the city of Corinth the project is separated of the city by different systems of circulation. The focus of the project is an idea of mimesis of the new city of Corinth which was rebuilt in the middle of the 19th century, based on a grid. The project takes place on the prolongation of the city system with the same size of blocks. It takes inspiration of red vienna and the phalanstery of Guise.

Perspective
Best Home, Anja and Martin FrĂślich Bachelor semester 5 3rd place
The starting point of the semester begins with an analysis of the Swiss commercial centers. Our attention was directed to their context and their potential regarding a possible structural transformation and expansion. The cooperative, as a traditional legal model deeply rooted in Swiss society, forms the background for our research in order to extend the chosen cooperative supermarket towards the communally orientated function of housing. We choose a supermarket which has the particularity to be temporary Pavillon that stands on the middle of an ancient road. We took the opportunity of that provocation to ask us the question of what could remplace an unused street in a city. The best way for us to answer this question was to respond by the question, as we did, by a ÂŤroad BuildingÂť.

Best Room, Anja and Martin Frรถlich Bachelor semester 5
The starting point of the second semester starts with analyses on a smaller scale. Our attention was directed to the question of rooms. Such reflections are less concerned with the technical housing functions than with space as a protective, collective and enclosing volume, characterized by classical parameters (Size and shape of the plot, Topography, Position of the sun, Room position within the layout of the apartment and its subsequent spatial connections). However, the main focus of the design is on the idea of the room as an architectural expression and its inherent atmosphere. The idea of that project was to make a room of books, that represent the collectivity, by the idea that knowledge comes from one to another. The project is articulated by 3 volumes. the first one is the hall that is used as a threshold between outside and inside, living space and sleeping space. The second volume is used as a simple dormitory. The last one which was the point of concentration takes his essence in the idea of copying elements such as columns, stairs, books shelves, cursive, niches, etc. to create an intense place of collectivity.

Dieter Dietz and Urs Egg, Lukas lenherr and Caroline Pashoud First year
First year consisted in a series of weekly or monthly exercises to explore human scale, materiality, perspective, plaster modelling by hand cutting and drawing. «The project process architecture. Such a process requires the involvement of the body and intellect in production: the links between thought and action, mind and hand, like those that connect the ideas to images, are made tangible» The first semester was linked to vision and image. Here is one of the monthly project. It’s a work based on the movie «stalker». The processes of the project is directly linked to the movie, in the relation between the scenario of the movie and the atmosphere with the spatiality of the project. For the second semester, the question of working in collectivity was raised. The goal was to work in a Vertical city named as «matrice». The first project shown here, is in relation with the matrice and the different projects. It’s in relation with the others projects as a scenography, and it’s also give to the Matrice an aspect of lightness and protection. The second work presented here is the continuity of the project, but it’s only visible by pinhole camera as a scan of the «matrice». The idea was to make a focus on the thresholds of the «matrice». The Pinhole works as photogram, inserted next to the «matrice» as an arm.
