It is with great honour and excitement that we present The Martin & Stein Fine Jewellery Collection to auction. Since its establishment in 1972, Martin & Stein has epitomized the essence of rarity, beauty, and individuality. The aigrette is a type of hair ornament that is typically decorated with feathers and embellished with jewels, sometimes mounted en tremblant. It is named after the egret bird, whose feathers were frequently used as hair and hat decorations. This trend was most popular in the late 19th century, when hats were often made entirely of feathers and even whole birds. Aigrettes were a natural complement to the elaborate hairstyles and wigs of the Georgian era, and they regained popularity during the latter part of the Victorian period. In the Art Deco era, simpler and shorter hairstyles were often adorned with bandeaus and other hair accessories, including aigrettes. The use of feathers as a popular jewellery motif continues to this day, reflecting our enduring fascination with birds.
