From the Chairman Dear Teacher, There is at least one man in this country who wears the patch of the wartime US 8th Airforce from time to time, especially at this time of year. It's me! In case anyone should think I have lost the plot and gone dotty, I wear that patch in tribute to the young American airmen who came thousands of miles across the Atlantic to fight and die alongside British airmen from 1942-45. I value all the lives that were lost, but I try especially to make sure that the American airmen who never made it home don't get forgotten. Nutrition and Activity I had a striking reaction to our newsletter on the subject of Nutrition and Activity. Many were asking for recipes and for copies of the nutrition guide. I am grateful to others who went to the trouble to tell us about what was happening in their school. I have always been a believer in shared knowledge and so I extracted a few of the comments and will publish them because they are thought provoking and helpful to others - shared experience, so to speak. For discretion's sake, I have

So, without further ado: At [our school] the School Council agenda is set by the students, however there are items which we discuss each year and food: what, when, costs, suppliers, etc. are discussed usually at the start and end of the year. Last year the students decided they liked having themed food days and so suggested over 20 possibilities to the Catering Manager. Bog Standard Launches School Toilet Award The Bog Standard campaign has launched a national School Toilet Award. Open to all schools, maintained and non-maintained, it was created by the children’s charity ERIC (Education and Resources for Improving Childhood Continence) because school toilets are vital. They might be the smallest rooms in the school but they can have one of the biggest impacts on pupil health, education and happiness. Schools that provide good standard toilets that meet the needs of their pupils can now gain a national award to recognise and celebrate their achievement. read more >
