Fast Track your MBA To success!

Earning an MBA has almost become a necessity for numerous youths in Nigeria in order to secure a job in this unstable economy. I agree that having a business degree can certainly boost your employability and provide you an edge to compete in the global job market. Moreover you will be able to develop leadership and managerial skills that will help you advance your career and earn high salaries by working in multinational corporations. How MBA Can Help You

ii

In an optimistic note, a recent BBC report states that job postings for new graduates in the Wisconsin School of Business have risen by 36 per cent in 2015 than the previous year. The school recently hosted a career fair where over 300 companies fought to recruit the top talent. Other B-schools are also claiming similar growths and expecting that their business programmes will experience the best results by getting their graduates placed in full-time jobs in leading companies. Steve Schroeder, assistant dean of the BBA programme at the Wisconsin School of Business, said “The bottom line is, as the economy gets stronger, corporate recruiting gets stronger...It’s going to be a (graduating) students’ market for the next 15-plus years.”

Moreover, as the digital revolution transforms the financial services sector, most leading banks are looking forward to recruit MBAs in order to better embrace innovation. American Express, the multinational financial services company, is planning to recruit around 250 MBAs in 2015. Barclaycard, part of Barclays Banking and financial services, is gearing up to recruit MBA graduates as digital project managers. Steven Cooper, chief executive for personal banking at Barclays, said “We are combining our dedicated staff with digital technology. iii

As you can see, the market for MBA graduates is just ripe and is expected to expand further in the future as more companies look for skilled professionals trained in business management.

But Is It So Easy For You To Become An MBA In Nigeria? iv

The fact remains that the education scenario in Nigeria is currently facing several challenges and the federal government is still struggling to cope with the situation. Moreover the gross lack of business schools across Africa has made it even more difficult for aspiring learners to find an effective and affordable MBA programme. Although there are some recognised MBA

programmes available in Nigeria, but does it make sense to invest such huge amounts of time and money to pursue a full time programme, especially in this scenario?

Should You Study Full Time MBA?

v

Although traditional full time MBA programmes can provide you comprehensive knowledge about business and management and offer you the campus experience, but with rising costs of tuition in universities and B-schools worldwide, it simply does not seem feasible to me. What is the point of earning a degree if you are going to end up repaying your students loans till your retirement? Moreover, if you are a professional, you will need to leave your current job to pursue a full time programme. It can also prove disadvantageous for fresh graduates as you will be unable to earn work experience throughout the duration of your study. Dr. Sarah Kelly, MBA programme director at University of Queensland (UQ) Business School, said “There's absolutely no way that students can work. A few

might fit in a bit of part-time work but our program requires students to be at university from 9am to 5pm for six-week blocks and then they get a weeks' break. You get days off: you do face-to-face on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and then have Tuesdays and Thursdays to do your work. But even in their downtime, students are at uni as there are group projects to get done.”

So

What

Can

You

Do?

vi

Let’s face it....studying a full time programme is simply not the best possible option for most of us due to various reasons. However, if you want to study business education without spending excessively or leaving your job, then I believe pursuing an online postgraduate diploma in business and management is one of the best options for you. Why? An online level 7 diploma in business will help you to gain the essential business knowledge and skills without taking out heavy student loans. As these programmes are highly flexible and affordable you will be able to do a full time job and study at your own pace. When you earn an accredited business diploma from a recognised university or online B-school, you will become eligible for wide range of excellent job opportunities as more and more employers are now accepting online business diplomas worldwide.

What’s More? A level 7 business diploma online will also enable you to fast track to the final year of accredited MBA degree programme, which you can study either online or oncampus. This will help you to save both time and money and give your career the boost it needs. A fast track MBA diploma will make sure that you land the next big

promotion and get the opportunity to work in leadership roles with high salaries in major companies, not only in Africa but around the world. i
