MEDIA FUTURE WEEK

All the possibilities to showcase your ambition & passion to combine expertise’s. Expanding your network as a stepping stone towards a career in the media industry. With three creative spaces: the serious playground, main stage and cocreation floor for creative sessions with the challenge to create future scenarios for media companies. This inspiring week opened my eyes towards the media industry and what it entails.

iMMovator has had a huge success with Media Future has been over the last couple of years in cooperation with at least ten universities of applied sciences this year’s MFW (Media Future Week) was again a success. iMMovator Cross Media Network is a network organization with the focus to strengthen the cross media sector with the empha-

sis on innovation and economical profit. With students, professors and lectors from various media programs are taken a rollercoaster ride of co-creation sessions, crossovers, lectures and inspiration session with leading speakers from the international media industry. The purpose of MFW is to improve the relationship between education and the media industry. This way

the all the participants are being challenged to develop their own vision on the future of media and how they see themselves as actual professionals in the near future. I was one of the students who was chosen to take part in the MFW. Immediately my enthusiasm started to rise. This was a real opportunity for me to expand my network and to see what possibilities are out there once I graduate. When arrived at the ‘Beeld & Geluid’ (Image & Sound) museum we were split into nine groups. What was eventually my group has as a case to find out what

the future of radio will look like in the near future. This was asked by Ericsson who is a facilitator for local broadcast radios within the Netherlands. The next three days we had brainstorm sessions, lectures from professionals and also some leisure time. By the end of the four days we had to present our concept in the museum where we initially met.

Most Fun I don’t think there was only one thing that really stood out. All the elements combined together made Media Future Week a super fun and educational experience. I really liked the serious playground though.

They had a pingpong table, a trampoline, a caravan with drinks, tents to chit-chat and the good old beanbags of course. This playground had the intention to relax and to distress for a little while, but only for a little because you did not had so much time for relaxing. My group, team BOB, which was our facilitator was a really nice group. Also to be able to put all your knowledge and skills into practice made this four day seminar/project a fantastic one!

Bodei Brouwer is this talent and gave an ass kicking presentation during MFW 2014 last year. She now developed some more skills and knowledge on storytelling and she has given us the latest tips & tricks when it comes to telling a story. First, giving a presentation with the basic facts is not going to blow the listeners’ mind. You have to be creative and every element has to be thought of. Think of your story as a fairy tale: ‘’Once upon a time… Use this to create a basis for your story to tell it in a more appealing way. Second, kill your darlings. Eliminate elements that are too vague and too Disney world, but

KILL YOUR DARLINGS practicing beforehand make sure that every prop (element) you use has something to do with your subject. The way you dress, use props, use your digital presentation and of course the way you speak. This will make sure that the content you give will be remembered. For a presentation that we had to present we used this story below as starting point. Prince sustainable wanted to make the world a better place.

Estherbell’s bright spirit the dwarfs came back on the right path. Getting closer to the fairy dust, the dwarfs saw trouble up. The trash spitting dragon was coming their way to protect his precious fairy dust. The dwarfs were almost defeated and that is when Estherbell became powerless. She sent out her last bright shine to signal the dwarfs death to the prince. – The End

FOOD AS PART OF THE CREATIVE INDUSTRY

Meet Jennifer Koelman one of the most kind, honest and hardworking teachers I know. With her inspiring English lectures she has been teaching for a couple of years now at the Hogeschool Inholland in Diemen. Besides teaching she has a huge interest in food and what it means to eat fair food. She has given some inspiring lectures about this topic, one of which she gave to us. Food is entertainment by means of expressing for example the Moulin Rouge, Palazzo and Avent la lattre. To express the quality and the exclusiveness. Besides that food is a great possibility to

blog about. You see a lot of blogs appearing lately to share food to keep people up to date with the latest developments and trends. It’s turning out to be a big media hype. About healthy and unhealthy food, what is good and what is not good for you. Food can also be art. Carl Warner is an example of a food artist who makes foodscapes. Food is about music. The vegetable orchestra they make the instruments of food and make music with it. Food may also create starts for example Otto Lenghi who makes a living out of food. Food applications on the phone also helps what you eat and what is best to keep aside. To find out how many calories are in the product you buy. A great way to keep you up to date about the most trendy food and what to eat and what not to eat.

HOW TO CREATE A

WORD OF MOUTH CAMPAIGN A few students that are currently studying Leisure Management at the Hogeschool Inholland know all about a WOM(word of mouth)-campaign. They have been busy with a project for SAIL Amsterdam 2015. Their goal was to find volunteers that could help them creating more sustainable awareness amongst the visitors of SAIL to keep the event as clean as possible. Therefore, a word of mouth campaign was created to find those volunteers.

ON PHOTO: WOM FLYER

How did they do this? By means of calling MBO-schools in and around Amsterdam we created a Buzz amongst all the teachers at the schools. We contacted them to make sure that they spread the word amongst their students. We couldn’t be present ourselves, therefore a flyer and poster were created to still be able to attract them. We knew that all applicants for the next school year are having a introduction week in the same week of the event SAIL. For us it was therefore more then logical to ask the teachers if there was a possibility to combine the introduction week with SAIL. After a week we received a positive response from a teacher who lectures Facility Management at the ROC van Amsterdam. He offered a total of one-hundred students who could be spread over the five days of SAIL. This meant that we could have a total of fifty students per day working for us in these so-called eco teams.

Encouragement to it’s MAX Students were pleased to hear about this, because in this way they are able to learn in practice what their course entails, experience the fun with new students, getting to know them, ability to network and are able to add some personal voluntary development on their CV’s. Another option for the students that are travelling more then are able to sleep on an actual boat during SAIL. This way they won’t have to travel every day. They are still looking for volunteers. RUNNING LAU INTERVIEW WITH

With 28.000 unique visitors per month Laura Brijde can reward herself easily for being the most successful health blogger of the Netherlands. While running she goes through life and in the meantime she enjoys the tapas from Spain and preferably dance till the early hours. ‘’One drink here and there is fine, as long as you know what to drink.’’

Could you describe your blog? ‘’Runninglau.com is my personal health& lifestyle blog. Daily you will find the neseccarymotivation and inspiration concerning a healthy lifestyle. This varies from personal stories and aspects that I see and meet in daily life, to work-outs and tips.’’ Why and when did you start your blog? ‘’In 2011 I decided to – be the most laziest creature on earth – and made a Tumblr page to motivate my lazy ass. This once so little page grew out to be a community of more than ten-thousand followers worldwide. The sharing of runs, recipes and experiences were becoming a daily job. Until the moment I decided it was time for a ‘sister’ and that’s how in 2012 Runninglau.com was born.

For more info How is it going with your daily blog? ‘’Great! At this moment my blog has become a full-time job. Besides that I study, but still blogging takes the most time. One working day for me is looking like a nine hour office job: the 24 hours that I have per day exist out of six hours of sleep, three hours of food, one hour running and 14 hours of blogging, answering e-mails or update my social media. At this moment Runninglau.com has approximately 225.000 views with 28.000 unique visitors per month. How cool is that?’’ Have you had extraordinary experiences for your blogs? ‘’What I believe is one of the greatest happenings about my blog are tons of e-mails I receive from my followers. This one time I received a mail from a young mother who, because she reads my stories, started it again with running and enjoys it to the fullest. Or last week I received a mail from a girl who survived anorexia. These thank you mails are irreplaceable. They let me realise why I do all of this for and give me the greatest smile.’’ You share a lot of good recipes at your blog and take your readers on a fit journey. Could you tell something about your nutrition schedule? ‘’At the moment I live for half a year in Spain, Córdoba, and I share my apartment with two other students. One of them is also Dutch and what appears to be true is that she is the same health freak as I am! At the moment I follow ON PHOTO: LAURA BRIJDE

a Personal Body Plan, this means that I have to stick to a certain amount of calories and macro’s. How I realize this is up to me. I cook, by myself, or together with my roommate, which is of course super fun!’’ How do you combine your goals towards a healthy lifestyle with the student life? ‘’Here in Spain life is a party every day. When it comes to food I make sure that I eat healthy most of the time, also during the weekends. I find this easier to keep up with and it is delicious of course. When it comes to alcohol I let myself drink twice a week. What I try to do with beforehand is spending the rest of the day more calm, but a drink here and there is fine as long as you know what to drink. Cola Light with Wodka have 65 calories per glas. Literally that makes you the happiest person alive!’’ To end things do you have tips for other students? ‘’I am a huge fan of the greek style from Optimel (450 gram!), which you can buy at the Albert Heijn to Go, it contains not even 250 calories! You can spoon it out, and the next two hours you will feel fulfilled. Another tip is to have as many vegetables next to your normal meal. By means of eating a carrot before lunch this way you will fill your stomach without the calories adding up. After this you can enjoy your healthy lunch and actually go on with your day with a fulfilled feeling!’’

ROLLENDE KEUKENS Next year mark your calender for the end of May. Rollende Keukens will be again at Westerpark with lots of food to crave for. You will probably think why a year ahead, well why not? I went their together with my boyfriend and my mom. When we arrived we could not believe how many people were present. We got a beer and that’s how we started our trip through all the nice looking food trucks. The smell, the people and the whole setting was just amazing! Some food trucks know the saying in the Netherlands, which is ‘’Wat een boer niet kent dat vreet hij niet’’ meaning what a farmer does not know he doesn’t eat. A lot of food trucks have been taking this into consideration and makes sure that what they serve is recognizable, even by the farmers. Others have authenticity as selling trick. Serve and make the food in ways it was done back in the days. All the food that you eat at Rollende Keukens has a story and its being told while you eat. And you feel and see the passion that these food truckers put in their food. Rollende Keukes started as a little festival, the weekend of the Rollende Keukens is up until today blossomed as one big eating festivity, yearly visited by more than a thousand people. All the long waiting lines did not bother me, because you could look for hours around you to stay entertained. A nice aspect about this event is that its free and the alcoholic beverages are also payable. The food is not that cheap it depends on your own food choice, but the way it is prepared is worthwhile your money! With usually good weather, music, good food, wine, nice music and the right company, this event is the event of the year for the food lovers out there! I would say Rollende Keukens is worthwhile your peeking eye for next year. Don’t hesitate just eat! 28 – RUNNING TITLE
