Sound is both the paint and the act of painting itself: adding color, texture, and tone to any space. It’s fascinating to see how the sounds around us resonate into a kaleidoscope of invisible energy, leaving an imprint on the moment and the memory. At Leon, our vision is to explore the relationship between art and audio and the intersection of design and technology. Our mission lies in the balance of these crucial mediums.
As an artist, creativity is the driving force behind everything I do, and it’s the fuel that feeds the fire here at Leon. We approach designing our products in the same way that I do when starting a painting: first with a vision, then by layering in the tones and textures, and finally by working and reworking the piece until the vision is fulfilled.
We treat every order that comes in as a commissioned work of art: meticulously designed with every last detail in mind, engineered with precision, handcrafted to your exact specifications, and finished to perfection.
Sound is our art. Design is our language. Craftsmanship is our pride.
This book is a look into our company, our culture, our creative process, and our work. Thank you for being part of the journey that has led us here today and for helping us to shape the path toward tomorrow.
Cheers,
While we’re designers, engineers, and craftspeople by trade, we’re artists and musicians at heart—and creativity has always been part of our DNA.
We started this journey over two decades ago, and while the company has transformed and evolved over time, we’ve remained committed to our roots and our vision: to mix art with audio, design with technology, and business with bohemia.
We first started our journey in a small studio in downtown Ann Arbor, Michigan, where we’d record music and host underground art shows. That space was an epicenter for creativity, with a small wood shop in the back where we experimented with building all sorts of things from scratch—including the very first Leon speakers.
Over the past two decades, we’ve transformed from that small studio to a global brand serving thousands of residential and commercial integrators and designers worldwide. We got here by staying true to ourselves and our roots: continuing to break the mold by remaining staunchly independent, putting our natural creativity first, and focusing on quality and craftsmanship in everything we do.
We’re proud to have made a name for ourselves by providing audiovisual solutions that thoughtfully blend design with technology manufactured right here in the USA. We love what we do, and we feel grateful to have worked with so many brilliant, dedicated, and inspiring people along the way.
Visitors to Leon’s headquarters are greeted by a monumental black-and-white lion mural and our iconic 1967 Airstream travel trailer.
The mural, painted by president and founder Noah Kaplan, is based on the two bronze sculptures that guard the Spanish parliament building. It serves as a reminder of our artistic roots and the pride we take in our company.
The Airstream, a quintessential symbol of Americana, represents our commitment to the journey. Just like us, it’s been shaped by the spirit of American ingenuity to stand the test of time.
At Leon, our shrines pay tribute to the things we’re most devoted to: sound, design, and craftsmanship. Located in our main entryway is a vintage speaker installation created for Leon by multifaceted artist Shrine. His vision was to let our visitors know they are entering “a temple of sound and design.”
Another shrine, a woodworker’s bench from the late 1800s, lives in the office of president and founder Noah Kaplan. “This would have been built by an apprentice learning to master the craft,” says Kaplan. “What’s so beautiful about these workbenches is that, in building them, you practice almost every skill you need to become a woodworker. It represents everything a builder has learned and will be used to build every project after that.”
We believe in building an authentic culture of creativity. That’s why the vintage curios placed throughout our headquarters are so important. Each object is meant to inspire a sense of artistry and intentionality.
LEON’S SPACE IS INFUSED WITH ARTIFACTS, ANTIQUES, & OBJECTS OF CURIOSITY. THEY MAKE YOU WONDER WHO MADE THEM & WHAT STORIES THEY MIGHT TELL.”
Commissioned in 2017 to celebrate our 20th anniversary, Final Broadcast from Fox Creek Station is a large-scale mural by Detroit artist Pat Perry. It depicts the history of audio and video and hangs proudly in our factory to remind us of the rich heritage that we belong to.
Our products are handcrafted just for you by our team of expert craftsmen and women in our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. Timeless and built to last, an investment in Leon is an investment in American craftsmanship that will remain in your collection for years to come.

THE LEON LOFT CREATES A TRULY UNIQUE EXPERIENCE FOR THE ARTIST & THE AUDIENCE. EACH SHOW HAS UNFORGETTABLE ENERGY. IT’S REALLY A THRILL & HONOR TO BE A PART OF IT.”
Although it’s far more polished than your average basement club, The Leon Loft still boasts the same hush-hush cool that surrounds a good underground venue. In addition to hosting various private events, the Loft’s signature offering is its ongoing free concert series hosted by Acoustic Café’s Rob Reinhart. The series has presented an eclectic mix of artists including Spearhead’s Michael Franti, Fitz and the Tantrums, City and Colour, and up and coming independent acts like Shakey Graves.
Once you get in, you’re in for a treat.
The small space seats around 75, with some café-style tables in front of the stage, freestanding chairs in the middle, and usually a bit of standing room in the back. Like the rest of Leon’s headquarters, the space feels like you’ve walked into a particularly trendy woodsman’s cabin. Art lines the walls along the approach to the Loft, and inside the unvarnished floors, thick curtains blocking natural light, and low lighting create a candlelit, rustic vibe.
After a renovation of the second-floor space, it didn’t take long to identify the idea of creating a new concert series in partnership with Reinhart, whose radio show Leon had sponsored since it started. “Rob and I had a meeting in the new space and there was an instant and silent spark,” says
Leon president and founder Noah Kaplan. Within a few weeks they’d booked the Loft’s first performer.
The performances themselves are intimate in multiple ways. Reinhart’s Q&As with the performers, and the small space itself, can’t help creating the feeling that you’re in for a truly personal encounter with whoever’s onstage. Artists usually stop by for a midday show on their way to an evening performance at a larger local venue, and you get the sense that you’re in for something different from their standard show.
Sometimes the venue seems to coax a particularly revealing performance out of the musicians who take the stage, as when Spoon’s Britt Daniel and Alex Fischel ditched the rest of their lineup and played the Loft. Daniel performed a gut-wrenching, stripped-back rendition of Spoon’s “I Ain’t the One.”
Perhaps most importantly, Kaplan says the Loft is “a way to connect with the community...to remind people that we’re here and this is what we stand for.”
— PATRICK DUNN FOR A2 PULP MAGAZINEThe Loft’s green room is designed for musicians to focus before their performances. Filled with vintage furniture, art, and decorative objects, the space is one of reflection and inspiration. It’s the perfect environment for each artist to begin and end a one-of-a kind, intimate musical experience.
THE PERFORMANCES ARE INTIMATE IN MULTIPLE WAYS...CREATING THE FEELING THAT YOU’RE IN FOR A TRULY PERSONAL ENCOUNTER WITH WHOEVER’S ONSTAGE.”

Finding the natural harmony between sound and style—what we call Balance by Design— is the philosophy we apply to everything we build, inside and out. We bring a creative approach to the audiovisual world by designing products that complement the surrounding space both acoustically and aesthetically.
Working closely with technology integrators, architects, and interior designers, we create solutions that deliver on performance and design, customized to suit the unique needs of any space. From the finishes and the grilles to the configuration and components— if you dream it, we can make it.
When technologies like record players, radios, and televisions were first introduced to the home, they were approached with the same level of design and craftsmanship as any household furnishings. At Leon, our methods honor an era when simplicity and intuitive functionality paired with excellent design to create some of the most iconic products of our time. We draw inspiration from the timeless designs of the past by taking the same thoughtful approach to the shapes, colors, and materials we use today.

It starts with a sketch. Then our team of designers and engineers work collaboratively with our clients to bring their vision to life from the ground up. From the moment an order is placed to the final coat of paint, we pay meticulous attention to every cabinet, every component, every detail. At Leon, building a custom product isn’t just a matter of process—it’s a point of pride.
OUR DESIGN TEAM IS COMMITTED TO DELIVERING THE MOST CREATIVE SOLUTIONS IN THE INDUSTRY. WE’RE ALWAYS DEVELOPING NEW WAYS TO INTEGRATE TECHNOLOGY INTO OUR CLIENTS’ LIVES.”
Sound is our art, but it’s also our science. Leon’s signature sound is the culmination of expert acoustic engineering, world-class components, and meticulous craftsmanship. As musicians ourselves, we build each speaker like a musical instrument—with extreme care and the finest materials available—to naturally reproduce audio and deliver a rich and dynamic listening experience that brings movies and music to life.
Our commitment to mixing art with audio pushes us to reimagine what’s possible. We’ve gotten where we have today because we never set limits on ourselves or our ideas. We follow our creative intuition wherever it takes us, and that has led to some amazing, one-of-a-kind journeys through sound and style.

THE CHALLENGE
Perched upon Indiana’s picturesque Geist Reservoir—a midwestern haven for fishing and boating—this modern ranch home is all about the subtle, elegant details. The owners are members of the audiovisual industry themselves, and they were looking for top-notch features that would blend in discreetly with their cozy vacation space.
Leon worked directly with local integrator The Premier Group to assess the space and design custom technology solutions to flawlessly accent the existing design down to the last detail. Our range of television concealment solutions and custom speaker capabilities were the perfect way to provide a high-end experience while still complementing and enhancing the space’s unique architectural features.
Above the fireplace, an 85” Sony television was recessmounted into the custom stone wall with a pair of Leon’s Profile sidemount speakers on either side, built to match the height of the display for seamless visual integration.
In addition to improved aesthetics, mounting the speakers directly to the television allowed the audio to remain connected with the source for optimal listening, providing upgraded and accurate sound quality.
Another display on the living room’s balcony-facing wall allows the homeowners a direct view of the screen from their office nook across the room. Leon’s Media Décor Eclipse Art Lift was the perfect solution to hide the television when it wasn’t in use, silently moving the clients’ artwork up or down to reveal the display behind it.
The result is a comfortable, modern environment where the homeowners and their guests can enjoy quality, easyto-control audio from anywhere in the room. Leon’s subtle and artistic style smoothly integrates each piece into the feel of the room for an understated-yet-elegant audiovisual experience.

THE CHALLENGE
Ryan Serhant has an acute eye for the inner workings of a perfect residence. The real-estate-broker-turned-mediamogul is the star of Bravo’s MillionDollarListing (and its spinoff series, Sell it Like Serhant), and CEO and founder of the mega brokerage firm, SERHANT. After he and his wife had their first child, Serhant decided to invest in his family’s own piece of real estate—an 8,000-square-foot Brooklyn townhome.
When it came to specifying the audio for the new space, the first thing Serhant asked integrator Richard Hollander of AV Design & Integration was, “We’re going to do Leon, right?”
Foundationally, Serhant wanted to incorporate exceptional audio throughout the home. Hollander and Serhant’s interior design team, Ash New York, integrated Leon essentials across the home’s six floors and outdoor spaces for a cohesive, whole-home listening experience.
THE SOLUTION
In the media room, Leon’s Horizon Ultima Soundbar is the perfect fit for Serhant’s television setup thanks to its built-tomatch dimensions, world-class performance, and configuration options. Additionally, Leon’s custom FrameBar features a white hardwood cabinet that matches Serhant’s
Samsung The Frame TV and Granite grille fabric that mirrors the lightness of the family’s playroom.
In Serhant’s office, Leon’s Timbre Bookshelf speakers complement the space’s dark wood finishes with a rich black hardwood cabinet and matching grille fabric. Leon’s versatile hardwoods and fabric options were also helpful in the master bedroom and media rooms, where Tonecase Bars in black hardwood and gray grille fabrics act as mantle solutions for housing the Sonos Arc soundbar.
Serhant also opted for in-wall subwoofers to enhance audio around the house. Extra in-ceiling AxV80 speakers ensure an entirely balanced audio distribution.
To tie it all together, Terra LuminSound outdoor speakers in a deep forest hue blend in discreetly with the outside greenery.
The finished picture is a fully integrated audio system, designed thoughtfully and precisely to complement and enhance the house’s atmosphere of quiet luxury.
“They crushed it!” said Serhant.

Known for his roles in Entourage and Clickbait—and as a co-founder of sustainable lifestyle brand SHFT—actor Adrian Grenier has dedicated his fame and resources to promoting the use of environmentally friendly materials.
That’s why, when it came time to remodel his five-story fixer-upper in the heart of Brooklyn’s Clinton Hill neighborhood, it was important to Grenier to focus on sustainability alongside style. Grenier worked with Leon and local integrator Powers IoT to create a sound system that would preserve the original charm of the historic home while also incorporating the latest in smart-home technology.
Our team went to work designing a custom, environmentally conscious solution that brought Grenier’s vision of style, tech, and sustainability to life.
An audiophile at heart, Grenier wanted audio in almost every room of the home. When entering the apartment into the main living room, a pair of custom Profile Ultima Tower speakers built from reclaimed Walnut flank either side of the ornate fireplace. In the basement, a Horizon Ultima soundbar built to match the exact width of the television and a pair of Axis in-ceiling speakers were incorporated to
deliver high-quality sound in an unobtrusive package. The downstairs screening room, a multi-functional space where Grenier aimed to provide a “party-ready” atmosphere and a home-cinema experience, features a complete Leon 7.2 system. To match the warm tones and rich colors of the space, Leon handcrafted a reclaimed Walnut Edge Media Frame to encase both the television and the Horizon Ultima soundbar. A pair of ten-inch Aaros ultra-thin subwoofers, also finished in reclaimed Walnut, were positioned underneath the television—with two Axis in-ceiling speakers installed overhead.
To complete the powerful surround sound experience, Timbre SEVEN Tower speakers—also in reclaimed Walnut— were positioned on either side of the seating area, providing big, full-range sound. The home’s bedrooms were outfitted with discreet Axis in-ceiling and Vault in-wall speakers. The kitchen received the same setup, with the addition of an Aaros ultra-thin subwoofer wrapped in Walnut. The backyard and deck areas feature six of Leon’s Terra FIVE outdoor speakers.
The final setup provides a rich sound profile throughout the entire home that will last a lifetime, all while thoughtfully maintaining the charm and sustainable mindset that went into the original design.

Music is everything for television personality and music journalist Allison Hagendorf. Her love of music and ear for rock have led to a dream career. From VJing on MTV, to scouting talent for Sony and Columbia, to acting as Spotify’s “Head of Rock,” she’s done it all. So when it came to finding a sound system for the backyard of her family’s new Southern California home, she needed to be sure it was the right one.
Hagendorf was looking to use the space not just as a relaxing oasis, but also as an entertainment hub where friends and coworkers could share new music in a way that would honor their work. It was important to have high-end audio that would blend naturally with the surroundings while still withstanding environmental wear and tear. Leon’s durable selection of customizable outdoor audio was the perfect match.
Working with Leon and local integrator Futronix AV, Hagendorf decided to divide their backyard into four distinct zones of audio: the front patio, back patio, outdoor kitchen, and pool. Leon’s Terra outdoor speakers provided the ideal blend of high-fidelity sound, environmental durability, and subtle, design-focused style throughout the entire area.
In the front and back patios, Terra Boundary speakers are tucked discreetly into the eaves of the roof to provide an immersive audio environment.
Recessed into the wall of the back patio is the “sonic centerpiece” of the backyard: a custom-designed soundbar built with marine-grade outdoor drivers and dimensions matching Hagendorf’s outdoor television.
Around the softscape surrounding the pool and outdoor kitchen, Hagendorf chose Leon’s Terra LuminSound outdoor speakers for their combination of subtle, modern style and full-range acoustics. At night, the speakers’ 360° LED lighting also creates a diffused glow throughout the entire area. Terra SIX outdoor speakers and two Terra subwoofers create the perfect far-reaching, wide-range acoustic experience for the family and their guests as they move about the area.
The end result is an ultra-durable outdoor audio environment that looks and sounds stylishly inviting—ideal for a professional event, casual entertainment, or the ultimate family staycation.
NOT ONLY IS THE SOUND IMPECCABLE, BUT THE SLEEK & MODERN DESIGN WAS EXACTLY WHAT WE WERE LOOKING FOR.”

The design was in the details for the owners of this Colorado-inspired dream home nestled into a 50-acre wooded property outside of Indianapolis. From the custom jeweltoned desk, to the knotty alder wood ceilings, to the subtle gold accents, the space was a labor of love down to the final touch.
The owners—an interior designer and AV consultant— reached out to Leon in order to preserve that same customization and attention to detail while integrating their home entertainment. It was important that our custom designs didn’t just stop at matching the space; they needed to enhance it.
In the family room, the shiny, black television felt out of place with the room’s rustic mountain vibe. Pulling inspiration from the surrounding design finishes, Leon created a custom Edge Media Frame to encase both the TV and the Horizon Ultima soundbar.
The frame was handcrafted from knotty alder wood—the same wood that cascades down the wall from the dramatic
vaulted ceiling—and stained on-site to ensure a perfect color match. A pair of Aaros subwoofers placed below the television were also finished using the same materials.
In the home office next to the kitchen, integrating audio was important, but finding speakers to complement the custom azure-toned desk unit proved to be a challenge. Knowing that an off-the-shelf product wasn’t going to deliver the desired results, Leon designed an octagon-shaped cabinet to house Ultima speakers that fit perfectly into the desk’s built-in bookshelves.
The speakers were then custom painted on-site to match the exact paint code of the desk and feature handcrafted braided brass lattice grilles to mirror the gold-tone accents throughout the room.
The result is a unique home whose meticulous, elegant detailing and tech-savvy audio integration fuse seamlessly together to create a welcoming and functional family space.

Slack’s streamlined communication software has revolutionized how workplaces operate. That’s why it was so important to them to create an experience center that would provide high-impact telecommunication and leave a lasting impression on visitors touring through their brandnew San Francisco headquarters.
To develop a solution that would integrate top-of-the-line audio and video into the space, Slack enlisted integration firm IVCi to help design an audiovisual system that would give them the “wow factor” that they were looking for. When IVCi sought out the high-quality, highly customizable audio that would fit the technical and spatial requirements of the space, Leon was ready to take on the job.
To complement the six-display-wide, three-displayhigh, 286” LCD video wall being installed in the room, IVCi brought Leon in to design a completely custom audio system that would meet the audio requirements without compromising the design of the space. Working closely with IVCi, the Leon team custom designed and engineered an audio solution that delivers the ultimate immersive surround-sound experience to those in the room.
To provide the space with the best performance audio possible, Leon created a system centered around our flagship SEVEN speakers. On either side of the video wall, we installed custom height Profile speakers. Meanwhile, running across the top of the displays is a custom-width Horizon soundbar with four built-in Aaros subwoofers. On the bottom of the screen array, Leon created a custom kickplate cleverly disguised as a grille to protect the lower displays while blending in with the design.
Throughout the room, Detail on-wall surround speakers were added to provide an immersive listening experience that extended beyond the front soundstage. The overall impression is one of smooth, high-end functionality with a professional feel. Small details and customizations work together with state-of-the-art equipment to give team members and visitors alike an impression that matches Slack’s straightforward-but-polished approach to the tools they create.

Detail CAMM on-wall speakers with custom screen printed logo
One of the most popular craft breweries in Portland, Maine, Bissell Brothers Brewing Company has become a cult favorite since it was founded by brothers Noah and Peter Bissell in 2013.
When they were building out their Thompson’s Point brewery and taproom, the Bissells knew they would need an audio solution that would sound great while still keeping a low profile. With multiple areas of the facility to accommodate, they were also looking to highlight their branding and set the vibe throughout the space.
Leon went to work creating custom pieces to accommodate the brewery’s audiovisual needs and stylized branding.
Working with the owners to map out the necessary zones of audio and ensure that all areas would receive proper sound coverage, the Leon team selected products that would deliver the perfect balance between performance and aesthetics for the job.
For the outdoor seating area, four Terra SIX speakers were installed, all with the iconic Bissell Brothers logo laser-etched onto the grille. The final result is an on-brand, understated look that adds to the brewery’s effortlessly cool atmosphere while providing high-quality sound and technology both inside and out. Customers can move anywhere in the brewery and still enjoy the same clear-cut audio and unique visual style.
We at Leon are so grateful for every step of this 25-year journey. Along the way, we’ve worked with so many brilliant people—clients, integrators, artists, craftspeople, and more.
This book is dedicated to you, our Leon family. We love working together and look forward to the next 25 years.
