Location:
Clinton Hill Library extennnding as a through lot so that there is a street line fronting both Washington and Waverly Avenue
Site Area:
100’ x 210’ = 21,000
Before we could begin the development stage of the project it was important we took the time to analyze the surrounding area of the site which will help inform our design decisions

Sun Path Study
Lighting Study
The basic intended concept of the building was two-fold: Firstly I wanted to create a courtyard space. When one goes to a library they want to feel separated and at peace from what’s going on all around. By having an embracing courtyard this creates that feeling as one enters the library space. The second part is the idea of natural light permeating the space and being the significant source of lighting.

The physical model helped study the folds and forms of the building. The physical model enhanced the studying of how the walls bend around and capture light.whether the strucuture of the site was feasible. It also helped fit within the overall site context model which informed more of how the massing of the site fit within the larger context of the neighborhood.
