Neapolis University takes part in prestigious economic forum

The student community of Neapolis University participated in the EuropeanEconomicIdeasForum2019(EIF)heldinNicosiabytheWilfried MartensCentreforEuropeanStudies,oneofEurope’slargestthinktanks.

Every year, the EIF brings together European Commission officials, membersoftheEuropeanParliament,economicexperts,businessleaders and other influential stakeholders from around the World. The forums provide an opportunity to consider innovative ideas and propose solutions totheeconomicchallengesfacingtheEUeconomy

The rector of Neapolis University, Pantelis Sklias, participated in the 10th EconomicIdeasForumofMartensCentreforEuropeanStudiesasspeaker at the second round table of the agenda among other distinguished speakerssuchastheInteriorMinister.

The specific subject of the panel was how and in which degree the financial crisis of recent years has affected the middle classes in southern Europeancountries.

The Paphos Board of Tourism announced 228 scheduled flights a week from 46 cities for this summer including amongst others London, Manchester, Berlin, Brussels, Amsterdam, Dublin, Vienna, Amman, Moscow,Kiev,TelAviv,Glasgow,Zurich,andRome.

Cyprus is the fiſth most popular destination for Britons this summer, according to Thomas Cook’s annual Holiday Report, based on its package holidaysandflight-onlybookings.

Cyprus in Top 50 of World's Happiest Countries

TheWorldHappinessReportisasurveyof the state of global happiness that ranks 156 countries by how happy their citizens perceive themselves to be. It is based on respondents' ratings of their own lives which the report also correlates with variouslifefactors.

The2018reportfocusesonhappinessand the community: how happiness has evolved over the past dozen years, with a focus on the technologies, social norms, conflicts and government policies that havedriventhosechanges.

CYPRUS GDP GREW BY 3.5% IN Q1 2019

Cyprus' economy expanded by 3.5% in the first quarter of 2019 on an annual basis, racking up 17 quartersofconsecutivegrowth,officialdatashowed Wednesday

Compared with the previous quarter, GDP grew by0.9%inQ12019,thesamerateasQ4,while based on seasonally and working day adjusted data, annual GDP growth rate in real terms is estimatedat3.5%.

The annual growth rate was slightly down from the 3 9% GDP recorded in Q4 (OctoberDecember).

GDP growth rate is mainly attributed to hotels and restaurants trade construction manufacturing, professional, scientific and technicalactivitiesandsupportservices,Cystat said.

The Finance Ministry tweeted that the Cyprus economy “remains among the fastest growing intheeuroarea”.

Seasonally adjusted GDP rose by 0.4% in the euro area (EA19), by 0.5% in the EU28 during Q12019,comparedwiththepreviousquarter.

Compared with the same quarter of the previous year, seasonally adjusted GDP rose by 1.2%intheeuroareaand1.5%intheEU28.

A multi-million movie starring Nicolas Cage will be filmedinCyprus,itwasannouncedrecently

Cage has starred in such well-known movies as Rumblefish, Raising Arizona, Moonstruck, Guarding Tess,andLeavingLasVegas.

The film, starring the Academy Award winner is titled 'Jiu Jitsu' and is to be filmed entirely in Cyprus while productioncostisestimatedat€24.6m.Itisascience fiction and martial arts film, whose cast includes “established Hollywood actors” Frank Grillo, Alain Moussi, Rick Yune, Marie Avgeropoulos and JuJu Chan, InvestCyprussaid.

Producers are Martin J. Barab and Dimitri Logothetis, whowillalsobethedirector.
