Neapolis University Paphos celebrated its 7th Graduation Ceremony

Neapolis University Pafos celebrated its 7th graduation ceremony, which took place at the Coral Beach Hotel & Resort in Paphos. The graduateswerefortunatetosharetheculminationoftheirhardworkin front of an audience of over 1200 people which included relatives, friends,academics,andprominentfiguresfromCyprusandabroad.

In his address, the Chairman of the University's Council, Mr. Michael Leptos, upon congratulating the graduates for their success and conveying his wishes for the best possible career, renewed the University's long-standing commitment for investment in high quality education and the professional recognition of its graduates. At the same time, he praised the University's decisive contribution to cultural and social affairs, while he expressed his satisfaction with the signing ofnew,importantpartnershipswithestablisheduniversitiesoverseas.

The graduation ceremony was attended by the Minister of Transport, CommunicationsandWorks,Mrs.VasilikiAnastasiadou,theArchbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos, the President of the Supreme Court, Mr. Myron Nikolatos, the Mayors of Paphos and Polis Chrysochous, politicians,officialsandahostofguests.

This graduation ceremony was of particular importance, since the first PhD title of the doctoral thesis programme was awarded in collaboration with the University of Peloponnese, thus sealing the University'sprimarygoalofproducinginnovativeandappliedscientific research.

During the ceremony monetary prizes and honours were awarded to theUniversity'stopstudents,byvarioussocialandfinancialinstitutions of Cyprus, such as Astro Bank, the Cyprus Architects Association, the CyprusComputerSociety,theCyprusPsychologistsAssociation,andon behalfofEpaminondasandMariaKorakides.NeapolisUniversityPafos wouldliketothankallthesponsorsfortheirsupport.

In the closing speech of the ceremony, the Rector of the University, ProfessorPantelisSklias,highlightedtheprogressandthedistinctions that the University has achieved through the offered curricula during the year and the pillars on which the University will be based for the achievement of strategic goals of accessible excellence, academic excellence, and social sensitivity. Cyprus Signs Contracts with Eni and Total On Five Blocks of Its EEZ

Cyprus signed agreements with France's Total and Italy's Eni for exploration in block 7 of Cyprus' Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Contracts were also signed for the farm-in of Total in blocks 2, 3, 8 and9,theCNAreports.

Cyprus' Energy Minister, Yiorgos Lakkotrypis, said this is a very important development related to the Republic of Cyprus' energy programme. He also noted that up to six drilling operations are expected to be conducted in the blocks for which ENI and Total have beenlicenced,whileatotalofnineexploratoryandappraisalwellsare expectedtobecarriedoutoverthenext24months.

ThecontractsweresignedduringaceremonyattheEnergyMinistry, in Nicosia, by Lakkotrypis and representatives of Total, ENI and the Korean company KOGAS, in the presence of Finance Minister, Harris Georgiades and the Ambassadors of France and Italy to Cyprus, IsabellDumontandAndreaCavallari,respectively

With the new contracts, Eni remains the major stakeholder in 2, 3 and9witha60percentstakeinblock2,a50percentstakeinblock 3 and a 60 per cent in block 9. Total now owns 20 per cent, 30 per cent and 20 per cent respectively in the same blocks, while Kogas continues to hold 20 per cent in each. Moreover, Total will receive fromEniashareof40%forblock8.

Thesourceunderlinedthatthefactthatthetwoenergygiants,Total and Eni, will now work together in various blocks of Cyprus` EEZ is veryimportant,addingthattheplanningforthedrillingsisexpected tobeagreedinthenextweeks.

With regards to the Calypso well in block 6 of Cyprus' EEZ, the source noted that an appraisal drilling has to be carried out. There havebeenindicationsthatthiswellisexpandedinblock7.

Economy Continues to Grow for Fifth Consecutive Year

Finance Minister Harris Georgiades said that the economy has continued to grow for the fiſth consecutiveyear.

In a written statement, the minister said the growth of the Cypriot economy remains strong at 3.4percentduringthefirstthreemonthsof2019and3.2percentforthesecondthreemonths.

In response to the government's critics, Georgiades said “this is how opportunities and job positionsarecreatedandthisisourresponsetopopulistsandnihilists.”

Butaccordingtotheministerthereisnoroomforcomplacencysince“despitesignificant progress in recent years, there are still internal weaknesses and external risks.”

That is why, he said, “we must continue our efforts with responsibility and credibility.”

The announcement comes aſter the latest flash estimate by Eurostat, according to which, seasonallyadjustedGDProseby0.2percentinboththeEuroarea(EA19)andintheEU28andby 0.7 per cent in Cyprus during the second quarter of 2019, compared with the previous one.

SeasonallyadjustedGDProseby1.1percentintheEuroareaby1.3percentintheEU28andby 3.2percentinCyprusinthesecondquarterof2019,aſter+1.2percent,+1.6percent,and3,5per centrespectivelyinthepreviousquarter,Eurostatsaid.
