MANYfold Dance/ Performing Art Theatre
MANYfold Dance/ Performing Art Theatre
Objective: To work in collaboration with my partner Nick Massaad on a design for the 2011 ACSA/ AISC Steel Competition. Program: Our professor challenged us to explore and do site analysis for Downtown Houston, Texas in ing art theater. My partner and I decided to place our theater in the Historical District in Downtown Houston, and use the underground tunnel system to link our theater back into the Theatre District. We created a theater space that would support the diverse culture in Houston and that had performing spaces that could be utilized by the public at any time of day. Our dance/ performing art spaces celebrate all types of dance which creates a richer and more collaborative neighborhood. Therefore, our concept for the Dance/ Performing Art Theatre is to allow viewers to see people performing all types of dance not only in a traditional Theatre setting but also in a classroom, in a park, on an outdoor stage, or wherever the dancer choices to perform. To do this we created transitioning and transforming dance programs, spaces, views and skins that would meet the needs of the dancers and their audience.
