Auction Highlights from the Estate of

SALLY GATLING TOMLINSON Atlanta, Georgia

The Estate of

SALLY GATLING TOMLINSON Atlanta, Georgia Mrs. Sally Gatling Tomlinson was known for her loyalty, fairness and beauty. She truly enjoyed fashion, and was named one of Atlanta’s best dressed women in the 1970s. She had a deep passion for interior design and worked with well-known designer, Reid McWhirter, for several years before starting her own design business. Sally’s homes in Atlanta and Sea Island were filled with furnishings and artwork that matched her exquisite and exacting taste, as well as reflected the beauty, magic, and character of each locale. Born in Atlanta in 1936, Sally was the only child of Bartholomew Figures Moore Gatling, Jr., and Mabel Richardson Gatling. She studied at The Westminster School in Georgia and Hollins College in North Carolina then returned to Atlanta and married Elwyn Candler Tomlinson, son of Cadillac automobile dealer, Elwyn White Tomlinson and Kate Palmour Tomlinson. Sally was deeply involved in her community throughout the years, and started a children’s theatre program, which ultimately merged with and became the Children’s Theatre of the Alliance Theatre. She was a member of the Director’s Circle of the High Museum of Art, the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, and The Junior League of Atlanta. She served as the Lifetime Director of the Alliance Theatre Board, and also served on the boards of the Atlanta Arts Alliance, Atlanta Humane Society, Atlanta Ballet, Forward Arts Foundation, and Shepherd Center.
