The Bay Area requires 100,000 acres of natural and constructed wetlands in order to maintain a sustainable ecosystem. Presently, only half exists. My proposal is an urban wetland research facility designed to restore 100 acres of Mission Bay’s ecosystem. The design allocates the wetlands into different stratifications of the facility, utilizes a forgotten space under I-280 and above mission creek, harvests energy through solar road panels and kinetic traffic sensors, and takes advantage of southern orientation for passive daylighting.
