Thinking - issue development How do creator think about works ? Le Corbusier and painting Mr. Le Cborbusier always claimed himself as a painter. He once said Sculptors, painters and architects cannot be strictly distinguished He also applied the inspiration from painting to his works. By observing the plants in the natural environment, he use the composed elements to his works.

Designer and comic books As a designer, I read a lot of Japan comic books. By observing the storyboard which cartoonists drawing, I use the composed elements to my works.

With the perspective, characters as well as the proper reading order, the 2D pictures become a 3D fictious world.

Node - site analysis Path, district, edge, node and landmark On campus, students live near the school. Therefore, there are many stores providing various foods, entertainments and other services. The site is located next to the campus entry, whitch means a lot of students are familiar with this site. Therefore, the space program must meet students need!

Organize - program analysis Range the commerical space and studio apartment In this case, the site is located next to the campus entrance, this location is a very inportant point in the traďŹƒc ow. The college students are the main users. The program provides eating, reading, music and suit apartments. In the integration of space, it must be able to meet the needs of dierent functions and arrange various functional relationship. Therefore, it must provide clear and convenient rules for the users to meet their needs.

Vertical - program design Divide the program into 4 part This project defines the area by the progarm funciton. Every function is for commercial use, whitch can be divede into two part. One is commerical program, and the other is rental program. The most private rental program are placed in the end of traffic flow. And then are placed the comics store because they require quietness for customers. On the ground floor, snake bars not only conveniently provide people to get and eat, but also keep the noisy activities in the lower floor.

Story and space- plan Cmbination between the concept and the space

11

In the concept develop, I imagine the whole building as an adventure story. The 1F and 2F are just like the introduce chapter of a story, and also the most frequently used public area for external use. There are a lot of introductions to characters and surrounding, as these two oor strongly connect site. It is also brewing to the main body. The 3F and 4F are the turning point of the whole story, guiding the core value of entire space. Students are the most important users because the site is located next to the campus. Consequently, the 5F, 6F and 7F are the end of the story, where everyone goes back to where he or she belongs to. Every suit apartment faces the view of campus, which makes students relax, rest and prepare for tomorrow.

This project investigates the method of architecture design. The purpose is to make a building meet the basic need, and to provide a overall plan about the spatial experience. Like the storyboard, we ďŹ rst set the main scenes, and plce them into the programs. Then, place each scene to its proper dimension. Finally, draw a series of construction drawing.

Children like to go to park in the afternoon. On the weekend, parents will take their children to join the Story Market, and the kids can read books in the tree house or in the quiet basement. On Wednesday, when children go home after school, they can run and jump in the park, smell the flower, and name everything they find. Sometimes, there are many tourists sitting in the souvenir shops where they can plan their next visit. This is a small park for people living nearby.

18

My Amusement Park - issue development In the Taipei City, the lane in front of my home is my amousement park. My childhood memory is affected by the building environment. In my memory, there were many little spaces hiding in lanes, so that children could play hide and seek in the specific open space. Now, I ve grown up. Therefore, I start to think about what is the suitable and innovation usage for the spaces in lanes?

Memory - issue development How do people create the memories ? People can understand an event by their own senses, like sight, smell, taste, hearing, and touch. Moreover, they save the feelings in specific forms. In the end, it would become a shor-term or long-term memory in your brain.

Intersection - site analysis The edge between city and nature

45

This site is located in the intersection between urban area and natural riparian. In the future, the Taipei Central Park Plan will be executed, and then citizens in Taipei will have a large scale size green area. Therefore, in the end of the plan, Yuchan park will become a very important position.

How - design development The fast road and huge highway surrounding the site The most important thing is to deal with the problem in this site. There are huge highway mass and super high ways surrounding the site. In order to improve space quality, creative and integrated design concept should be provided, as a reference strategy for overall city space structure and city improvement design of Yuchan Park.

Fracture - issue development A common urban phenomenon A city is a great united habitation, causing the change of physical environment and natural ecology because humans develop the mass of land exploitation. It also affects the quality of habitation and subtle climate change in urban area. Settlement area also brings the overload traffic, which may affect safety, comfort and convenience. The edge space becomes an individual condition. In the result, it influences not only the quality of urban environment, but also the possibility to develop the enduring city with natural environment.

Huge Island - space strategy The island belonging to the city

The main purpose is to set a huge mass, because this case is based on the urban scale. In the case 1 and 2, there are too many artiďŹ cial structures, which will result in a sense of congestion in urban areas. In the case 2 and 3, there are too many small islands. They just belong to the users in the park, but they are not big enough to aect the feeling of Taipei citizens. In the end, the huge islands provide the best solution to the site in the city. But, the dierent advantage will be combined in the next case. Master plan study Case 1

Connection - space design The pool connect the nature island and the urban hard pavement In the basement, people can walk to the top of the island along the road. Looking backward, there is a familiar and crowded man-made city. Looking forward, there is instead a vast natural riparian. In the arrangement of the basement, water is the intermediary element. The image of the pond connects the indented hard pavement as the representative of the city with the nature environment made of curves.

52

Climbing - space design Providing two distinct walking experience. In the arrangement of space, there are a leading square, a subordinate one, and connecting passages. Besides passing through the small islands in the pond, the two major passages connecting from the original swimming pool and the newly-built cycling square can lead across the bank. The steepest part is the largest island as the main mass of the original swimming pool. The original roof will become the biggest activity square in crossing-bank park. The cycling square is the gentle uprising to the largest island. Those small islands in the pond provide access for pedestrians to the largest island.

Crossing - modle The borderline between nature and artifacts. The largest island stretches outside the bank, oering a platform for cross. The intersectional platform overlooks the contrast between nature and artifacts. Outside the bank, islands will guide tourists to swarm to the riverside following the aux of the river. Thus, Island Jumping provides not only Taipei City with a unique space experience, but also tourists in the crowded city with a gentle uprising to the natural bank. The location of the island also oers citizens in Taipei City a site for watching nature and artifacts together, a site for thinking the balance between artifacts and nature. 54

Nidify workshop provides an architecture learning camp for children. In seven days, 20 children cooperate to build a bread kiln in an elementary school. Through different simple architecture lessons, children could learn using tool and understand the materials such as brick and sand. For Taiwanese, Nidify workshop is an important learning camp in architecture education because it inspires the most imporant people, children.

Nowadays, the society develops quickly, education space also changes tremendously. This project is locating in an old community, it provides a new path for students to go to school. The space issue is exploring the relationship between school and community. In the future, the depopulaion trend will affect the structure of the society, the school will provide more fine teaching space. This wall construction project is first step of future alteration.

We suddenly thought of the childhood memory when we read the “Ocean Swimming Pool.” In my childhood, children picked up clams, played fireworks, rode terrain vehicles together… Every good environment has good stories. We plan to find the different stories in Alvaro Siza’s architecture works. In the end, these stories will show to people live in Taiwan. We believe it can inspire more people think what is the better space quality.
