ALI PUTNAM’S JOURNEY from Syracuse University, where she majored in entrepreneurship, to building a successful women’s golf clothing brand, is one of passion, resilience, and vision. Balancing her thriving business with a bustling home life, Ali’s day-to-day is anything but ordinary. As a mother to five young boys—all under the age of nine—she knows firsthand the challenges of juggling family and career. Her strong support system, including her husband and family, has been instrumental in her success, allowing her to inspire others through her brand. In this interview, Ali shares insights into her entrepreneurial path, the inspiration behind A. PUTNAM, and how she manages her ambitious career alongside motherhood.
Q: Have you owned other businesses before starting A PUTNAM? If so, how did those experiences shape your journey with this brand?
A: I graduated from Syracuse as an entrepreneurship major and knew I wanted to own my own business at some point. At one point in my career, I left a corporate job and helped my friends start a popsicle business. A month in, the nature of a startup kicked in and I was working for sweat equity and didn’t have a stable income. I wanted to stay involved, but saying goodbye to a salary wasn’t really an option. That’s when I started my own supply chain consulting business - to pick up some side jobs to supplement what was lost into the popsicle business. It wasn’t long before one of those consulting gigs turned into a full time job.
It definitely taught me a few things. The hustle, the mental positivity, the toughness that you really need to have in starting something new on your own. That really helped me take that leap to start A. PUTNAM. That confidence. That sense of, ‘what’s the worst that’s going to happen?’ I think many entrepreneurs are really risk averse, positive and patient.
Q: What inspired you to create A. PUTNAM, and how does it reflect your vision for a golf lifestyle brand?
A: The inspiration behind A. PUTNAM was this selfish need for women’s golf clothes that suited my aesthetic and my lifestyle. To say my life is busy is an understatement. At the time, as a mom of 5 boys under 9 years old, I was running them all over creation while having a full-
time career that had me traveling across the world. In the midst of work and kids, I was attempting to play more golf with my husband and boys. I always struggled with what to wear that took me from each one of those roles and those personalities that I was navigating in an eight-hour span. On top of that, when I golfed for work and networking, I never felt like I was dressed appropriately in those settings.
I remember from my entrepreneurship classes about solving problems. How people come up with these wonderful ideas that solve a personal problem. That’s exactly what this was and it transformed into a line of clothing that’s serving women like myself.
It’s so fulfilling to see women wearing our pieces that are, themselves, navigating the same challenges - running errands, hitting the course, taking a meeting, then washing dishes, because it is exactly what I envisioned these pieces doing.
Q: Can you share the story behind the name “A. PUTNAM” and what it signifies for the brand?
A: It’s all rooted in family.
I worked with a marketing company on all of these logos and names, sorted through many Scottish-rooted words and other things. But I just never felt like anything really captured what I was trying to convey. So I went with my namesake. The PUTNAM family crest depicts a
crane adorned with a crown. Our logo is an abstract crane, which is symbolic of grace and strength. The crown atop the crane is a roman numeral five, a nod to my five boys.
Q: How does A. PUTNAM differentiate itself from other golf lifestyle brands in the market?
A: The biggest difference is that we want to be the brand that leans more sophisticated, more polished.
When we say versatility, it means pieces that can be worn out to dinner or to a board meeting. I think it’s so different from the trend of versatile athleisure clothing, in which you can play golf, but it’s a better fit for running errands, having coffee, heading to the gym. There’s a little bit more of a casualness around that trend.
We’re on the other end of that spectrum and we want to be that elevated look for women. That’s something our customers have said is really important to them. Whether they’re businesswomen, broadcast journalists or others who are just as comfortable at the office as they are on the course. They want to look sophisticated, especially if they’re anywhere near a golf course.
Q: What are the key elements you consider when designing products for A. PUTNAM?
A: I think we have a good feel for what our customers are looking for, and so it’s making sure these designs fit their needs. And so I’ve developed a bit of a checklist that really dials us into products that fit our brand.
• If I can’t wear the product outside of golf, it’s not A. PUTNAM.
• If it doesn’t meet a more formal dress code of a private country club, it’s not A. PUTNAM.
• If it can perform on the course, but it only looks like it should be worn on the course, it’s not A. PUTNAM.
I would never want to design a line of clothes that I could only wear four times a year when I can golf. So as a result, our products are designed to be really versatile. And I just love that our customers are saying, ‘I can wear this to work, I can wear this into the clubhouse for dinner.’ And that’s where we want to be.
Q: Can you tell us about a product in your collection that is particularly close to your heart and why?
A: Our button-up. From my first collection.
I love a minimalist wardrobe where you have really important pieces that you purchase that should and can be worn in so many different ways. Every woman should have a really good white button-up in their closet. From the very beginning, I kind of sought to make a really good one - that could also be functional on the course.
Q: How do you ensure that A. PUTNAM’s products meet the demands of both performance and style?
A: When I think about a new design, I circle back to what I would want to wear and what I want to style and what’s missing in our A. PUTNAM lineup. From there, I look at so many different aspects of that design. Fabric is one of the most important elements of that, and it has to have that element of comfort, but then visibly not scream performance. And then taking an item and making it more functional and versatile.
Our Ada Bomber, for instance. It’s a really cool stretch tweed fabric. I remember trying on the sample and I kind of threw it off of me. My husband was like, ‘oh cool, it’s reversible.’ I was like, it’s not … but it would be really cool if it was. So taking things like that and making them multifunctional to benefit our customers.
Q: Who is the ideal A. PUTNAM customer, and what qualities do they appreciate most about your brand?
A: It’s kind of me in a nutshell. It’s a busy mom. It’s a career woman. An athletic woman that has been around the sport or loves to play or even is new to the sport. It’s really that active woman in so many different parts of her life. That’s why there’s a need for pieces that serve them in more ways than one.
I remember when I was taking a class on how to start a clothing line, it was very focused on sustainability. And I think what was really cool about that process and learning about sustainability in the fashion industry is that it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to have sustainable fabrics. You need to make decisions and designs that allow for versatility and longevity in your products. I’ve always kept that in the back of my head. That’s partially why we design a bit more traditional and not as ‘trendy,’ - to give life and longevity to these pieces. And so our woman is looking for those things that they can get a lot out of the pieces and exactly what we’re focused on.
Q: Do you draw inspiration from the current golf scene or other lifestyle elements when designing?
A: I purposely stay extremely far away from trends in golf. It doesn’t resonate with us. I think the reason we’re different is that we just have this different philosophy and take on what golf can be.
Runways help shape a little bit of what’s going on, and I always look to those shows for the traditional elements that are coming back or influence on color palettes. But we sit in a very neutral spot with color and that’s what gives you that versatility outside of golf. The second you put a colorful pattern or even color, it makes it harder to style those pieces in your everyday wardrobe. (continued)
So we love sitting in this neutral spot and looking at how you can take your lifestyle piece and flex it into golf. That’s where we live.
Q: What has been one of the biggest challenges you’ve faced as a brand owner in the golf lifestyle space?
A: The women’s apparel business in a golf shop is a very difficult business. There is a complex equation to merchandising a shop and servicing female members is not easy. We have found an incredibly strong
balance between service and consultative selling that has really positioned us where we want to be. Playing in this sandbox is so much more work than D2C, but we absolutely love building these incredible relationships in green grass.
Q: How do you see A. PUTNAM evolving in the coming years? Are there any exciting developments on the horizon?
A: Every day, every week, there is something new we either learn or some new relationship that we develop. I think that there are a lot of opportunities coming up in the next year, whether it’s to partner and support a group of women or find ourselves in a specific niche on the fringes of golf. There is a whole market of women in this sport that are looking for what we’re providing, and I think that’s where we’ll find a lot of opportunity and growth.
Q: What values are most important to you as a brand owner, and how do they influence A. PUTNAM’s mission?
A: A word that’s really important to us and our brand and everybody involved
in A. PUTNAM is ‘authenticity.’ We are committed to being true to ourselves. When we’re just being ourselves and showing people the life that we live, that we juggle and manage, I think it’s so relatable. And I think there’s so much power in that - especially when you’re building a brand.
A huge part of that goes beyond the clothes. I think there’s such an energy that our team gets from partnering with likeminded women. Specifically highlighting and supporting strong women that have a voice we relate to. A good portion of our community are not golfers and we’re supporting them in their career and personal lives. It’s so incredible for us to just say, we love what you’re doing and we’re behind you. What do you need? Let us support you in the journey you’re on. And that’s so important to our community building. It’s pure magic.TSG

for golfers. With wide fairways, undulating greens, and strategic bunkering, the course rewards creativity and shot-making, encouraging players to think strategically and enjoy the game in a relaxed, scenic environment. The nine-hole layout is perfect for those looking for a quick round, but its thoughtful design ensures that even seasoned golfers will find plenty of challenges especially on the greens and if you don’t three-putt a green, that is an accomplishment.
INNESS is also a members club. Perks include unlimited golf, advanced tee times, driving range privileges, lessons and club fittings, social membership (pool, tennis, spa included), access to members lounge and a member’s only calendar of events

What makes a great golf resort? The resort itself must be effortlessly luxurious, offering guests supreme comfort and a seamless experience from check-in to tee time and beyond. The golf, on the other hand, must present a challenge worthy of a bucket-list getaway, with beautiful, unique courses and resources to help every golfer play their best game. Where can you find a resort that combines both? It’s waiting for you in Pennsylvania’s breathtaking Laurel Highlands — at Nemacolin.
Encompassing more than 2,200 mountain acres, Nemacolin is a four-season luxury resort like no other. Here, you’ll find Mystic Rock and Shepherd’s Rock — two world-class courses designed by the legendary Pete Dye — as well as a state-of-the-art golf academy. With award-winning offerings for spa, dining, art, and adventure, travelers of all kinds love Nemacolin — but among golfers, it’s the stuff of legends.
Mystic Rock was the dream of Nemacolin Founder Joseph A. Hardy III. Today, it stands as one of the country’s finest courses, offering players championship-level golf in a spectacular setting. This world-famous course hosted the PGA Tour’s 84 Lumber Classic from 2003 to 2006, and continues to serve as a site for state and regional tournaments. Inspired by Nemacolin’s rolling mountain terrain, Pete Dye designed an unforgettable golf experience with ample landing areas, stunning sightlines, and endless risk-reward scenarios.
Fans of Dye will recognize his use of angles, misdirection, false fronts, and demanding greens to protect par. With a par of 72, a slope rating of 149, and a course rating of 77.0, Mystic Rock is a thrilling challenge — and that’s just how Dye wanted it. Nemacolin and Golf Architect Tim Liddy completed an extensive bunker renovation on Mystic Rock in July 2021, solidifying its place as one of the USA’s premier mountain courses.
Completed in 2017, Shepherd’s Rock is Nemacolin’s second Pete Dye course, designed to complement Mystic Rock with its jaw-dropping natural beauty and irresistibly challenging Mid-Atlantic layout. The terrain climbs hills and plunges into valleys, providing unparalleled vistas and surprising twists at every turn. The postcard-worthy 11th hole is one of the most handsome on the property, while the waterfalls near the final green provide a picture-perfect finish to a fabulous round of golf.
With a collection of the most fascinating greens a golfer will ever putt, Shepherd’s Rock must be played to be believed. This par-72 course features a slope rating of 138, a course rating of 74.7, and a reputation for challenge that exceeds even Mystic Rock. Luckily, Nemacolin offers just the thing to help you prepare.
The Nemacolin Golf Academy is a state-of-the-art, 4,000-square-foot facility where award-winning instructors and the latest athletic technology work together to improve every aspect of your game. Here, you can perfect your drive with swing analysis and simulators by Trackman, Swing Catalyst Dual Force Plates and Balance Plates, and much more. With a 1,000-square-foot putting room to hone your short game and custom club fittings to optimize your gear, the golf academy elevates every golfer to their full potential.
The academy’s talented instructors are led by Director of Golf Instruction Mike LaBella, twice named to Golf Digest’s coveted Best Young Teachers list. In addition to private lessons for individuals and groups, the golf academy offers a regular schedule of open group lessons, clinics, and bootcamps for golfers of all levels. Many of these events feature expert guests including pro golfers, top coaches, and sports medicine specialists.
Best of all, golfers can enjoy Nemacolin all year long. The Nemacolin Golf Academy stays open in every season. Even Mystic Rock remains open through the winter, as long as weather permits. Its pristine mountain terrain has an otherworldly beauty in the colder months — an experience no golfer ever forgets. In the Laurel Highlands, playing Mystic Rock in a winter coat is a rite of passage.
Nemacolin is perfect for golf getaways or group events of any size. The resort’s ever-popular Stay & Play package includes one round of golf per adult for every night of your stay at any of Nemacolin’s diverse accommodations. Choose from three luxury hotels or a range of private homes and estates sleeping up to 22. Birmingham, Alabama, a city with deep historical roots and warm Southern hospitality, recently welcomed me and a group of writers for the Birmingham Golf Media Tour. Hosted by the Greater Birmingham Convention & Visitors Bureau, the tour combined exceptional golf, rich culture, and a taste of the city’s vibrant culinary scene. Over four days, Birmingham proved to be an unforgettable destination for golfers and history enthusiasts alike.
The journey began with a moving visit to the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, an experience that set the tone for understanding the city’s profound impact on American history. The exhibits offered a powerful look into the struggles and triumphs of the civil rights movement, making it clear that Birmingham is not just a city— it’s a symbol of resilience and progress.
From there, we embarked on a driving tour of Birmingham’s iconic landmarks, with Vulcan Park and Museum as the highlight. Perched atop Red Mountain, the Vulcan statue standing 56 feet tall— is the largest cast iron statue in the world and a tribute to Birmingham’s
industrial heritage. As I gazed out from the observation deck, the panoramic view of the city below was nothing short of surreal. The blending of modern skyscrapers with tree-lined neighborhoods was a testament to the city’s ability to embrace both its history and its future. The museum beneath the statue offered deeper insights into Birmingham’s industrial past, providing context to the monument’s enduring significance.
Dinner at Lé Fresca Ristorante Italiano that evening was a culinary delight, featuring authentic Italian dishes crafted with precision. The fresh ingredients and attention to detail mirrored the city’s own dedication to quality and tradition.
Golf and Motorsports Thrills
The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail is a golf lover’s dream. Spanning 11 locations and 26 courses across Alabama, it represents one of the most ambitious and celebrated golf projects in the world. Built to transform Alabama into a global golfing destination, the trail was the brainchild of Dr. David Bronner, then-CEO of the Retirement Systems of Alabama, who envisioned creating world-class courses to boost tourism and the state’s economy.
The RTJ Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley perfectly embodies the trail’s ethos of offering challenging and visually stunning golf. The Ridge Course, with its rolling fairways and dramatic elevation changes, demanded focus and precision, while the Backyard Par-3 Walking Course provided a relaxed yet rewarding nine-hole
experience. Playing these courses, I gained a true appreciation for the thoughtful design and attention to detail that define the trail.
The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum added an unexpected twist to the day. With over 1,000 vintage motorcycles and race cars on display, it is a haven for motorsport enthusiasts.
The Porsche Experience racetrack on-site takes the adrenaline up a notch, allowing visitors to test their driving skills on a state-of-the-art course. This blend of history and hands-on excitement makes Barber Motorsports a standout attraction in Birmingham.
The RTJ Golf Trail at Ross Bridge is a crown jewel of the trail and an absolute must for any golfer. Stretching over 8,100 yards, it’s one of the longest golf courses in the world, but don’t let that intimidate you multiple tee options make it accessible for players of all skill levels. Designed with a seamless blend of natural beauty and strategic challenges, the course winds through rolling hills, tranquil lakes, and tree-lined fairways
Ross Bridge’s layout is both breathtaking and rewarding, offering a mix of long drives, precise approach shots, and challenging greens. Water hazards and bunkers are strategically placed, demanding thoughtful play, while the serene backdrop of the Renaissance
Ross Bridge Resort adds to the overall experience.
What makes the RTJ Golf Trail truly unique is its ability to cater to everyone, from weekend golfers to seasoned pros. Each course on the trail is meticulously designed to showcase the natural beauty of its location while offering unforgettable rounds of golf. Beyond the game, the RTJ Golf Trail also fosters a sense of adventure, encouraging players to explore Alabama’s rich culture and landscapes as they move from one course to the next
After a morning at Ross Bridge, lunch at the Renaissance Ross Bridge Golf Resort & Spa provided a touch of luxury
before we delved into Birmingham’s baseball legacy. At Rickwood Field, the oldest professional baseball park in America, the rich history of Birmingham’s baseball past came to life. The park was home to both the Birmingham Barons and the Birmingham Black Barons, the latter featuring legends like Satchel Paige and Willie Mays. This year, Rickwood Field garnered national attention as it hosted a Major League Baseball game, honoring the Negro Leagues and showcasing the enduring charm of this historic venue.
Dinner at Saw’s Soul Kitchen that evening was the perfect conclusion to the day. With dishes like tender pulled pork
and creamy mac and cheese, it celebrated the best of Southern comfort food.
Our final round of golf took place at Highland Park Golf Course, a historic gem that has been part of Birmingham’s landscape since 1903. Originally designed as the Country Club of Birmingham, the course was reimagined in the 1920s by Donald Ross, whose influence can still be seen in its strategic bunkering and undulating greens.
Highland Park holds a special place in Alabama’s golfing history. It has hosted numerous tournaments over the years
and remains a favorite among both locals and visitors. What sets Highland Park apart, beyond its well-maintained fairways and greens, is the stunning view of Birmingham’s skyline from several holes a reminder of the city’s unique blend of tradition and modernity.
Birmingham’s blend of rich history, exceptional golf, and warm hospitality makes it a city unlike any other. Whether standing atop Red Mountain at Vulcan Park, playing the storied fairways of Highland Park and Ross Bridge, or marveling at the collection at Barber Motorsports Museum, I was continually
reminded of the city’s ability to captivate and inspire.
The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail is a testament to the transformative power of vision and creativity. For golfers, it offers some of the most beautiful and challenging courses in the country. For history bufis and travelers, Birmingham as a whole tells a compelling story through its landmarks and experiences.
If you’re planning your next golf trip or just looking for a destination that combines culture, history, and world-class recreation Birmingham is the place to be.

Igrew up caddying at Wannamoisett Country Club in Rumford, Rhode Island, from the tender age of 9 through my teenage years, eventually hanging up my caddie duties in 1980 at 19. It was a transformative experience—not just in shaping my work ethic and teaching me life lessons, responsibility, patience, and human interaction, but also in delivering a few unexpected milestones. At 17, I had my first “Mrs. Robinson” moment, caddying for a captivating older woman. What began on the course that day continued at the driving range that night and eventually led back to her place. Let’s just say I was ahead of my time in understanding the term “cougar.” Thursday was ladies day at the club and this woman was a guest of the club member and I remember laughing with her later about it and the fact to this day it was the best job ever growing up as a kid and around the members hearing stories from them talking with their playing partners, you grew up fast.
Back then, we didn’t have the modern conveniences of today’s caddying world—no bibs, no schedules, no GPS and certainly no cell phones to organize our day. We stood around for hours in the caddie pit, pitching pennies, all jumping in someone’s car for Dunkin Donuts before a group we called “the dawn patrol” would tee off first every morning hoping to be called for a loop. Today, a caddie knows ahead of time what loops are booked, thanks to their phone, so they don’t have to be told to go wait in some obscure place like the caddie pit we did so you aren’t seen. They can plan their day or even the next without the endless waiting around we endured.
In the 1970s, my caddying career began with a $5 payout for carrying a single bag. By the time I finished, I was earning around $15 per bag, or $30 for a double loop—a term used for carrying two bags in one round. These weren’t the featherweight, sleek carry bags you see today; these were heavy, leather Burton bags loaded with gear. The leather straps dug into my shoulders, but we didn’t complain. It was a job, and we took pride in it.
Back then, being a caddie required a sharp memory and a keen eye. We were expected to know the course inside and out—not just the layout, but the subtleties of every hole. Yardages weren’t handed to us with the press of a button on a rangefinder. Instead, we
calculated distances the old-fashioned way, using landmarks like sprinkler heads, the back of a bunker, or a particular tree. Accuracy came from experience and training, not technology.
Today’s caddies have it much easier in that regard. With yardage finders and GPS watches, precise measurements are just seconds away. While these tools enhance the job, I can’t help but feel a sense of pride in the way we once operated. We relied solely on our instincts and the naked eye, a skill set that demanded focus and precision. It was just another way we worked to ensure we provided value to the players we served.
Now, at 63, when I have the pleasure of using a caddie at high-end clubs, the dynamic feels entirely different. Caddies today often earn anywhere from $100 to $150 per bag—figures that seem astronomical compared to what I once made. Of course, inflation and the increased affluence of many private clubs play a role in this dramatic jump in pay.
However, it’s not just the money that’s changed. I’ve noticed a new trend: caddies no longer assume they’ll carry the bag the golfer arrives with. Instead, they often switch out heavy bags for lightweight alternatives without even asking. This would have been unthinkable in my time. Back then, we took pride in carrying whatever bag we were handed, no matter how unwieldy or over-packed. Today, the focus seems to have shifted from enduring the physical challenge to optimizing convenience for the caddie.
Having spent a decade as a caddie myself, I can tell within the first hole if a caddie knows what they’re doing. It’s an instinct honed from years of experience—and sometimes it’s painfully obvious when they don’t. One thing I definitely don’t need is a caddie lining up my 3-footer for double bogey. That’s usually the moment they get “the look.” You know the one—the universal signal for please go stand over there. Humor aside, I respect the work they do, but it’s safe to say I have my own way of doing things after all these years. Caddying has changed in ways I never would have imagined, but that unspoken partnership between golfer and caddie still remains at the heart of the game—whether I like their bag-swapping and alignment tips or not.
Back in the day, caddies weren’t just bag carriers; they were ball hawks and the ultimate focus group on the course. Guys like Al Ryding, Mark Hogan, Gerard Conforti, the Tracy brothers—Bob, Ted, and Kevin—JJ Sprague, the Anthony brothers—Paul and Joe— Mooch Thompson, and the Riverside boys were the gold standard. And let’s not forget the twin caddie masters, Billy and Steve Rice, who ran the show with precision. When their player was hitting, they were locked in, tracking every shot like their life depended on it. Losing a ball wasn’t an option, and if you were another caddie with them who wasn’t paying attention, trust me, they’d let you know about it. They set the tone for what it meant to be a professional caddie, even as teenagers.
It makes me wonder—should today’s caddies be held to a measurable standard? What if players filled out a stat sheet at the end of the round? Did the caddie lose any balls or fail to focus? Did they provide accurate yardages? Could they read greens and rake traps properly? Did they hustle? These metrics might sound over the top, but they’re exactly what guys like Al, Mark, Gerard, the Tracys, JJ, the Anthonys, Mooch, and the Riverside crew prided themselves on. This is a profession. Work at it. Earn your keep instead of just being a bag carrier.
And don’t get me started on the forecaddies at some of today’s clubs. These are guys who don’t even carry the bags—they just stroll along, maybe holding your putter while you drive the cart. I’m not a fan. What amazes me is when they don’t rake a bunker or fail to pay attention to where the player’s ball went. Why do I need that? And then, at the end of the round, each of us hands this guy $50—or sometimes more. For what? So when I get a caddie that doesn’t live up to the standard, I can’t help but think: where’s my stat sheet to fill out at the end of the round? A little accountability wouldn’t hurt.
The evolution of caddying mirrors broader changes in society. In my youth, the job demanded grit, and you earned every dollar through sweat and effort. Today, while the role still requires skill and attention to detail, the shift towards comfort and higher wages suggests a redefinition of what it means to serve.
Does this make today’s caddies less hardworking? Not necessarily. The job still involves navigating the course, managing the player’s expectations, and understanding the game. However, there’s a part of me that misses the unspoken code of resilience and adaptability that defined my generation of caddies.
That said, I still find myself asking, What’s changed to justify this kind of money? Don’t get me wrong—I understand the economics of it, and I respect the profession. But if a caddie is earning $100 to $150 per bag, shouldn’t it be up to the player whether or not they switch out the bag? I mean, for that kind of pay, carry the tour bag, the kitchen sink, and maybe the dog, too.
Humor aside, I can appreciate how caddying has adapted to modern expectations. Times change, and the profession has evolved to meet those changes. But every now and then, I can’t help but wonder if we’ve lost a bit of the rugged authenticity that made the job what it was back in the day.
Caddying will always hold a special place in my heart. It taught me lessons that extend far beyond the golf course—lessons about life, perseverance, respect, growing up fast and the value of earning your keep. While the game has changed, and the role of the caddie with it, the spirit of the profession remains rooted in service.
As I watch modern caddies shoulder lighter loads for heavier paychecks, I can’t help but smile. They’ve found a way to adapt to the times while still providing the essential support golfers need. And while I might reminisce about the days of leather straps and aching shoulders—and, yes, my unforgettable “Mrs. Robinson” experience—I’m grateful for the enduring tradition of the caddie. They remain a vital part of the game, no matter how much it evolves. TSG

Richland—the seventh golf course at Reynolds Lake Oconee—has officially opened for play. The new 18-hole layout was created by acclaimed course architect Tom Fazio by combining nine holes from his existing National course with nine all-new holes.
This gives Reynolds Lake Oconee two Fazio designs (Richland and The National) along with courses from Jack Nicklaus (Great Waters), Rees Jones (The Oconee), Jim Engh (Creek Club), and two by Bob Cupp (The Preserve and The Landing).
The new Richland turns the Bluff nine from the original, Fazio-designed National— with some recent modifications—into holes 1 through 5 and 15 through 18. The new holes, 6 through 14, traverse the peninsula of Reynolds and tumbles down to the Richland side of Lake Oconee. The resulting layout provides plenty of challenge with fescue-lined fairways, numerous bunkers, and dramatic elevation changes.
“My goal is always to create distinctive, one-of-a-kind golf courses,” says Fazio. “There’s a lot of terrain variation—lots of ups and downs, ins and outs, twists and turns— which is great for golf. That’s what makes this such a fine natural setting.”
Fazio adds, “Members will enjoy this golf
course because it has character and will never play the same. This new course will provide a challenge and have endless possibilities for a fun and captivating golf experience.”
Among the changes to the nine Bluff holes were removing or repositioning bunkers, adding new ones, and combining smaller bunkers to create larger ones. Some greens have been reshaped and/or moved, often bringing the lake more into play. New fescue native areas and low-mow chipping areas were also added on some holes.
The new nine utilizes significant elevation change to put an emphasis on club selection and angle of attack. Players will encounter doglegs, a deep valley and big ravine, plus
sloping greens and strategically placed bunkering. They’ll also have the chance to refresh themselves at a new halfway house – The Turn -- between holes 9 and 10. The Turn is a mobile food truck that will serve burgers, sandwiches, wraps and a full array of beverages.
“Richland adds a seventh distinct playing experience for Reynolds Lake Oconee members, highlighting the talents of Tom Fazio’s design and the topography of the site,” said John Gunderson, President, Daniel Communities, the managing partner for Reynolds Lake Oconee. “It’s tough to imagine a finer collection of golf courses in any community in the country.”
The new Richland—which is the second fully private golf course accessible only to Reynolds Lake Oconee Platinum members— meanders through the 500-acre Richland Pointe community, which opened three years ago. Its centerpiece is Richland Pointe Village, which features a globally inspired restaurant, a state-of-the-art wellness center with TechnoGym equipment, Reynolds’ first on-site, members-only spa, and lakefront pool facilities.

BOYNE Golf PGA professionals celebrate 28 years of raising funds for Manna Food Project and First Tee-Northern Michigan to impact families and youth through golf.
The Harbor Cup golf event, which brings together PGA professionals from BOYNE Golf and the Petoskey/Harbor Springs region, has become part of the fabric of holiday giving in Northern Michigan. Over the past 28 years, the event has raised over a million dollars, benefiting the local charities Manna Food Project and First Tee-Northern Michigan.
The annual fall event was held September 30-October 1 on the Links/Quarry course at Bay Harbor Golf Club, near Petoskey, Michigan. PGA professionals from BOYNE Golf properties were matched against PGA professionals from Petoskey/Harbor Springs area golf courses (Team Harbor) in a fun 54hole Ryder Cup-style format.
Team BOYNE professionals raised more than $80,000 for the designated charities this year. The donations resulted from the year-long fundraising effort leading up to and following the event and supporting the Harbor Cup Charitable Fund at the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation. Many donations came from the Country Club of Boyne and Bay Harbor Golf Club members, proceeds from merchandise sales, and pro-am golf events around the area.
The BOYNE Golf Harbor Cup team proudly presented donation checks to Manna Food Project ($70,000.00) and First Tee-Northern Michigan ($10,000) through the Community Foundation’s Harbor Cup Charitable Fund.
Manna Food is a pantry and warehouse that supplies food to more than 35 pantries and agencies in Antrim, Charlevoix, and Emmet counties. This year’s charitable contribution will help provide more than 70,000 meals to community members. In addition, First Tee is an organization that promotes character development and lifeenhancing values to area youth through the game of golf. The donation helps to increase programming opportunities and reach more youth. Other organizations in Northern Michigan will also benefit from the Harbor Cup charitable donations.
“The Harbor Cup event, with its annual holiday giving, has become a wonderful tradition here in Northern Michigan. We could not do any of this without all the support we receive from the Harbor Cup Charitable Fund, a component fund of the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation, along with the Country Club of Boyne and Bay Harbor Golf Club members, area businesses, vendors, and homeowners,” said Steve Niezgoda, Bay Harbor Golf Club Head Professional and Team BOYNE’s Harbor Cup Captain. “On behalf of all the PGA golf professionals from BOYNE and across the Petoskey/Harbor Springs area who have participated in this great event, we want to say how proud we are to be able to impact the community like this during the holiday season. Tri-State Teacher of the Year named to 2025-2026 list of best golf instructors under 40
The accolades continue to pile up for Michael LaBella, director of instruction at The Nemacolin Golf Academy, the state-ofthe-art instructional facility at Nemacolin, Pennsylvania’s premier luxury golf resort destination. LaBella has been named to Golf Digest’s Best Young Teachers list for the third straight time. The bi-annual list identifies the rising stars of teachers under 40 years of age.
“Michael LaBella is truly one of the brightest minds in golf instruction and a very influential figure in the teaching business, so it’s no surprise to see him on Golf Digest’s Best Young Teacher list for the third consecutive time,” said Nemacolin’s Director of Golf Operations Chris Anderson. “Expect to see more great achievements and accolades for this tireless swing coach and golf instruction innovator.”
LaBella, who is 35, was also honored as TriState PGA Section Teacher and Coach of the Year for 2024. While the honors are piling up lately, LaBella says it is anything but old hat.
“It’s always nice to see people vote you in,” says LaBella, who himself actually nominated two teachers who made the same Golf Digest list for the first time. A point of emphasis for LaBella, and perhaps many of the teachers on the list, is that he never sits still. He says he is always trying to learn new techniques, technology, and more about his students or potential students.
It’s not just about going to seminars, says LaBella, but also about connecting with his peers, seeing what other successful instructors
are doing to help their players, whether they are scratch or better, mid- to high-handicappers, or even beginners.
“I feel like I’m always trying to learn something new, whether it’s the mental game (LaBella has been employing a biofeedback device called the FocusCalm EEG headband with some of his students), which seems to be the most recent thing I’ve been trying to dive into, or whether it’s new technology that’s come and how to best utilize that technology,” says LaBella, whose mentors include his junior instructor Brian Jacobs and the legendary Craig Harmon.
to golfers through social media. While he does not advocate that golfers should teach themselves solely through YouTube videos or Instagram, LaBella uses these platforms as a tool to draw golfers into what he’s doing. It’s about creating awareness and interest. And it has been a challenge, given how busy he and his staff have been this season.
As the head of instruction at Nemacolin, which features two terrific Pete Dye designed courses – Mystic Rock (former home a PGA Tour event) and Shepherd’s Rock – LaBella reaches a nice volume of golfers, whether they are staying at the resort or visit for a lesson.
At The Nemacolin Golf Academy, he has a staff of excellent instructors, plus some of the best tools in the business, including Trackman launch monitors and simulators, Foresight Sports’ GCQuadTM launch monitor, and Swing Catalyst’s Balance and Dual Force Plates.
Working with the Force Plates has been a real revelation as of late for LaBella.
“I feel that everything we do from the ground up really affects the swing,” says LaBella, who graduated from Penn State and joined the iconic Pennsylvania golf resort in 2020. “I can apply pressure at different points of the feet, which can change how you are going to pivot and how the club is going to move. So, everyone has a little different pivot style, and we know how that pivot style is going to work, we can then use how their legs work to then generate more speed or get a little bit more consistent club movement.”
Another point of emphasis lately for LaBella has been his effort to reach out
“I’ve picked up about a dozen students this year just from social media alone, which is fantastic,” LaBella said. “I have talked to other coaches, and they say that they get students every once in a while. But for some reason, I’ve picked up about a dozen students from Instagram. I’m thinking to myself that I haven’t posted that much this year, but I guess the stuff I posted was that effective.”
Indeed, putting together videos can be time consuming. LaBella purchased a camera to record his videos, which obviously takes time. Then he has to download the videos, edit them, and maybe put music with them. He and an intern recorded between 15-20 videos over the past two weeks and spent an entire Sunday night editing them.
LaBella’s YouTube channel is at https:// www.youtube.com/@MLaBGolf, and he can be found at Instagram at https://www. instagram.com/mlab_golf/.

Rosebloom – Your Hair, Your Game, Your Style. That’s Representation.
By Joe Burkhardt, Publisher
As women, we know the struggle all too well. Whether you’re hitting the golf course, running errands, or soaking up the sun on a weekend hike, finding a hat that truly works for us—our style, our hair, our lifestyle—feels like searching for a unicorn. Traditional hats often miss the mark: they’re either too tight, too loose, or just not designed with our needs in mind. That’s where Rosebloom Headwear steps in, setting a new standard for headwear that blends practicality, elegance, and inclusivity.
Rosebloom isn’t just another hat brand; it’s a movement. It’s about celebrating individuality, diversity, and the little details that make women extraordinary. From accommodating textured hair and protective styles to offering chic designs that feel as good as they look, Rosebloom is proving that headwear can be as versatile and dynamic as the women who wear it.
For too long, the hat industry has defaulted to a one-size-fits-all approach— one that’s historically catered to men. That leaves us women, especially those of us with textured, curly, or voluminous hair, with few options that fit comfortably and perform well. Protective hairstyles like braids, twists, or buns? Forget about it—most hats just aren’t designed to accommodate them.
The result? Hats that pinch, slide, or simply don’t work. Instead of enhancing our look or shielding us from the sun, traditional hats often feel like a compromise. Rosebloom saw this glaring gap and set out to change the narrative, creating hats that celebrate all women and all hair types.
Rosebloom’s designs are a gamechanger for women who refuse to choose between function and fashion. These hats are crafted with thoughtful details like
crown-height hair openings, allowing you to rock high ponytails, buns, or voluminous styles without sacrificing fit or comfort. Whether your hair is thick, curly, textured, or straight, Rosebloom’s proprietary sizing system ensures a secure, personalized fit.
And let’s talk about the look. From sleek and sporty to playful and polished, Rosebloom hats are as versatile as your wardrobe. Premium fabrics and precision embroidery elevate every design, making these hats as timeless as they are functional. Whether you’re pairing it with your favorite athleisure outfit or a breezy sundress, Rosebloom has your back— and your head.
Rosebloom isn’t just about hats—it’s about representation. By addressing the unique needs of women, especially those often overlooked by traditional headwear brands, Rosebloom is making a powerful statement: every woman deserves to feel seen, celebrated, and stylish. This is more than just headwear; it’s an invitation to show
up as your most confident self, whether you’re teeing off at the golf course or flagging down the beer cart with flair.
What truly sets Rosebloom apart is its commitment to inclusivity. These aren’t just hats—they’re a revolution in design that acknowledges the diversity of women’s hair and lifestyles. By creating hats that cater to a wide range of hair textures and styles, Rosebloom is rewriting the rules of headwear and challenging the biases that have long dominated the industry.
Rosebloom Headwear is more than an accessory; it’s a celebration of women’s individuality and strength. Whether you’re a golfer, a weekend adventurer, or a multitasking mom on the go, these hats are made for you—your hair, your style, your life. No more sacrificing comfort for fashion or vice versa.

The historic Forest Hills Golf Course in Augusta, Ga., has reopened for play under the management of Bobby Jones Links (BJL, the golf industry’s leading client-centric, boutique management company) after an extensive renovation of its greens designed to enhance playability and the overall golf experience. The modifications significantly improve one of Augusta’s premier golf destinations.
The course’s greens were planted with TifEagle Bermuda grass, one of the best grasses available. This will offer golfers a smoother, faster, and more consistent playing surface. “Our members and daily fee golfers will now enjoy superb greens that will also meet the high standards we must have to host the many high-profile tournaments that we host,” said Jed Howington, President of the Augusta Golf Association.
In addition to unveiling the greatly enhanced playing conditions, BJL will implement a working plan to make Forest
Hills one of the region’s best-run and most enjoyable daily-fee golf experiences. For example, BJL’s Vice President of Experiences, Allyson Darling, will map out Forest Hills’ “customer journey” with the club staff to ensure golfers are given exemplary service at every point of their visit. Darling and the BJL team will educate the staff on BJL’s five core values and 17 service standards for an optimal customer experience.
“With BJL at the helm, Forest Hills will have more resources, expertise, cost savings, and systems than before,” said Whitney Crouse, Co-Founder of Bobby Jones Links, the company that manages the property. “The dining experience and the club’s social media presence will also improve considerably. Forest Hills is already a fun, scenic, and historic course that generations have enjoyed. It’s Augusta’s best and busiest daily fee course.”
Regarding the anticipated reopening, Char Cormier, the General Manager of
Forest Hills Golf Course, said, “We are thrilled to welcome new and returning players to experience the improvements. Since we have been closed since June 17 and survived a few things Mother Nature has thrown our way, we know golfers are greatly anticipating playing the course again and seeing the new greens. We believe the wait will have been worth it.”
The greens renovation is part of an ongoing effort to maintain Forest Hills’ reputation as a top-tier golf destination. Designed in 1926 by the legendary Donald Ross, the course has hosted numerous prestigious collegiate and amateur events and is a favorite among local players and Augusta visitors. Forest Hills has also achieved national notoriety as one of the most indemand courses during Masters Week. Players are encouraged to book their tee times through TheForestHillsGolfCourse. com, or by calling the pro shop directly.
PGA of America #GameChanger award winner continues trailblazing leadership path
The accolades continue to pile up for Jason Kuiper, director of instruction at The Grand Slam Golf Academy, the state-of-theart instructional facility at Bobby Jones Golf Course in Atlanta. Kuiper has been named to Golf Digest’s Best Young Teachers list for the second straight time. The bi-annual list identifies the rising stars of teachers under 40 years of age.
“Jason Kuiper’s vision and passion for helping golfers of all ages and backgrounds improve their game has been instrumental in advancing one of our Foundation’s core pillars: introducing the game to new golfers,” said Joshua Deal, Bobby Jones Golf Course general manager. “Under Jason’s leadership, The Grand Slam Golf Academy and its programming have become a shining example of how golf and great people can make a difference and help inspire a community.”
Kuiper was awarded Georgia Section PGA Teacher of the Year for 2020 and received US Kids Golf’s “Top 50” Teacher Award in 2019. He was also recognized as a GRAA Top 100 Growth of Game Professionals in 20202023. He was awarded the PGA of America’s prestigious #GameChanger award in 20202023 for organizing one of the 25 largest PGA Junior League programs in the nation.
“Being named a Golf Digest Best Young Teacher for the second consecutive time is just an incredible honor,” says Kuiper. “To see all the names on the list, it’s inspiring to be part of that next wave of top teachers and it’s great that this list keeps growing and recognizing really good, talented teachers
coming up through the ranks. Golf courses are doing a great job now making teaching programs, development and growth-of-thegame initiatives a main focus at a lot of properties. This recognition, I think, validates a lot of what the Bobby Jones Golf Course Foundation’s mission was when they developed this property, and making its focus on growing the game, teaching and making golf more accessible for different populations to play the game. You can’t do any of that without a teaching pro, or in my case, an entire Academy of skilled teaching professionals that all are working together under that shared mission.”
Bobby Jones Golf Course, managed by Bobby Jones Links (BJL), the golf industry’s leading client-centric, boutique management company, has undergone an incredible transformation and is now an integral part of the local golf community as well as a shining example of how a golf course can play a vital role in enriching the lives of people throughout a community. Subject of a $33 million redevelopment project in the 2010s, Bobby Jones Golf Course has opened its doors to anyone who wants to play golf. For example, Bobby Jones Golf Course’s PGA Hope program, a free initiative that teaches golf to active-duty military and veterans, has made a significant impact in the lives of countless service people. The course’s PGA HOPE program boasts four different six-week clinics that are free to veterans and active-duty military. Kuiper has nine certified PGA of America professionals on staff who help with HOPE (helping our patriots everywhere). The course
also does a similar clinic with the Salute Military Golf Association.
Bobby Jones’ PGA Junior League program had more than 250 children participate last year. The weekly matches were on Sunday afternoons, which is prime real estate for tee times. More than 4,000 juniors have come through the course in the last five years and the Youth on Course program allows juniors to play the course at any time for $5.
The centerpiece for the property is the Murray Golf House, which serves many roles. It’s the clubhouse for Bobby Jones Golf Course and is home to the Georgia State Golf Association, Georgia PGA Section and Georgia Golf Hall of Fame. Boone’s restaurant was originally designed to be a grab-and-go food center but has turned into an upscale experience that features American cuisine with beautiful views of the course and the city of Atlanta skyline.
“Five years in, you catch wind of other projects,” Kuiper said. “They visit us and want to learn about how we did this. How did you create a nonprofit, how did you raise the money? These are the things they want to know. “There’s at least a handful of other projects that were born out of this idea. That’s a cool story.”

Leading golf coach to champion GolfForever’s mission and exercise platform to teaching industry, develop programming to influence all golfers
GolfForever, the Official Golf Fitness System of the PGA TOUR and leading athome golf training system that helps golfers play without limits, is proud to announce a partnership with acclaimed golf instructor Jason Baile, Director of Instruction at Jupiter Hills Club in Tequesta, Florida and a perennial staple on GOLF Magazine’s Top 100 Teachers in America and Golf Digest’s “Best in State” Teachers lists.
Baile, one of the leading and most influential minds in modern golf instruction and coach to players of all skill levels, including players from the PGA, LPGA, Champions, Canadian and Latin American Tours, sees GolfForever playing a vital role in the way golf lessons should – and will, in the future – be conducted. GolfForever’s proven golf-specific exercise platform provides the ideal pathway for instructors to become more effective in their lessons to help golfers learn proper movement patterns for significantly better play by training their bodies off the course.
In addition to creating and consulting on content and programming for the GolfForever app, Baile will play an integral role in shaping GolfForever’s CoachConnect – the golf coach’s exercise and movement virtual teaching assistant. Access to this tool includes an easy-to-follow, three-hour online certification program that teaches golf instructors how to identify key physical limitations in their students’ bodies through GolfForever’s 5-Minute Assessment, then use CoachConnect to prescribe personalized exercises and drills to target those deficiencies. Coaches additionally learn basic knowledge of
human anatomy and biomechanics as it relates to golf and the swing.
“Jason Baile is one of the most educated, trusted and dynamic golf instructors in the game today and we’re excited to integrate his incredible passion and creativity into our business,” said Jon Levy, GolfForever’s VP of Communications & Strategic Partnerships. “We are excited to learn from him and not only become more effective at connecting with our customers, but carry out our mission more effectively to help golfers on and off the golf course.”
A longtime advocate of a golfer’s need to work on their body so they see maximum results in their game, Baile integrates GolfForever CoachConnect and tools like the GolfForever Swing Trainer into his teaching daily.
“GolfForever has built a thriving community and raised golfers’ fitness IQ in a way that is really impressive and groundbreaking,” Baile said. “The exciting part is that the GolfForever ecosystem has a ton more room to grow in the golf area, from the standpoint of getting coaches like me to understand how to use it consistently within golf lessons, and not just as a piece of golf equipment. GolfForever is an indispensable training aid every golfer and every instructor needs, and not just away from the game. Every time you’re practicing or trying to change a movement pattern to play better, you need the GolfForever Swing Trainer. I’m always looking for mesh points between fitness and golf and with GolfForever, we have a chance to raise the quality of golf training across the spectrum. You’re going to see huge benefits and motor pattern changes made possible by integrating GolfForever training into traditional golf instruction.”
Prior to bringing his talents to Jupiter Hills, Baile was the Director of Instruction at Belfair in Bluffton, SC and was also on the award-winning instructional staff of the Sea Island Golf Performance Center, where he was mentored by legends in golf instruction, including Mike Shannon and the legendary Jack Lumpkin, 1995 PGA of America Teacher of the Year. Baile was named Carolinas Section PGA Teacher of the Year in 2018 and was
awarded Hilton Head PGA Chapter Teacher of the Year honors twice.
SEE BAILE AND GOLFFOREVER IN PERSON AT THE PGA SHOW
Baile will join GolfForever Founder Dr. Jeremy James on stage at the annual global gathering of the golf industry at the 2025 PGA Show, presenting insights on how simple and effective it is for coaches and instructors to integrate fitness solutions into golf lesson plans to help their students find better gains, more efficient movement patterns and better play. Baile and James will take to the stage on Thursday, January 23, to present to an audience of PGA professionals, media and golf industry representatives.

The Battlefield, designed by Tom Clark and Kevin Atkinson, makes its debut on the list tied for 13th with a host of courses from other famed destinations around the country.
Golfweek launched these rankings in 2023 on the philosophy that “the greatest trend in golf development over the past decade has been the introduction of short courses at so many resorts and private clubs,” the magazine’s editors explain. “To acknowledge the rapid rise for short courses, Golfweek’s Best introduced a ranking of these layouts in 2023. This year, we go a step further, breaking the category into two divisions with the top public-access and private lists of short, par-3 or other non-traditional courses. This is the ranking for the public-access layouts, which can include resorts, municipal courses and daily-fee operations.”
The Battlefield is one of America’s most unique courses. Unlike most par-3 courses that offer more of a pitch and putt feel, The Battlefield offers 18 unique full-length par-3 holes allowing players of all levels to use every iron in their bag. The course encompasses 80 acres of rugged terrain with more than 100
feet of elevation changes. As you wind through the natural feel of creeks and falls, exposed rock outcroppings and railroad ties hold the land together. Although the course is built for all players, the challenge you take on is up to you. With five sets of tees, players can choose the more manageable and shorter tee options with more direct access from tee to green. Or they can opt to play from the tips that bring the beautiful and well-placed bunkers, creeks, and dramatic greens complex features into play. From the back tees, the Battlefield presents holes ranging from 110 - 245 yards long.
“The Battlefield is an incredible golfing experience, probably the most fun and engaging 3,000-yard course in the country, so it’s a privilege to have Golfweek raters recognize that,” said Ryan Snyder, PGA Director of Golf for Shangri-La Resort. “We’re excited that more and more golfers are discovering the magic – and incredible quality – of the Battlefield in addition to the excellent 27 championship holes at Shangri-La. This lakefront resort is probably one of the most unexpected and underrated golf destinations in the country and as more people come play here, expect us to be in conversation on a more national scale.”
Earlier this year, The Battlefield received official USGA course and slope ratings. Starting in 2024, par-3 courses can now
receive a course and slope rating from the USGA. The World Handicap System (WHS) reduced the minimum length requirements for courses to receive these ratings, from 3,000 yards for 18-hole courses and 1,500 yards for 9-hole courses to 1,500 yards and 750 yards, respectively. The Battlefield plays 2,951 yards from the back tees. The Course Rating System uses formulas, adjustments, and table values to calculate ratings based on the obstacle factors and effective playing length of 9 or 18 designated holes. Rounds played at courses that receive these ratings can count towards a golfer’s official handicap.
According to the USGA, The Battlefield, a par-54 course, has the following course and slope ratings:
Black tee 57.1, 103
Blue tee 55.8, 102
Green tee 54.9, 97
Silver tee 53.1, 91
Gold 51.2, 84
“From the back tees, it’s rated at 3.1 strokes over par,” says Ryan Snyder, director of golf at Shangri-La Resort. “On a par-3 course, you almost never hear of that. Of our five sets of tees, three are rated out over par. The others are a little bit under par. And we also have a set of unrated Felix tees for beginners. We have tees for everybody. You can make it as difficult or as easy as you want it to be. You make one bad swing and it’s going to cost you a bunch of strokes – that’s why it’s so hard. It’s also a great course to prepare for a tournament. It will get you ready but will punish you for a bad swing.”
The Battlefield’s stand-alone clubhouse facility offers a short iron warm-up area and a large putting green. Although some players may prefer to walk the rolling course, golf carts are available for daily play. A patio overlooks the beautiful landscape where you can relax following play and see several greens complexes throughout the course. Inside the clubhouse, the Canteen provides fresh tacos, wraps, and salads with a full signature cocktail menu. The Battlefield golf shop has a historic feel, offering great souvenirs and clothing options for all your golfing needs.

PXG Philadelphia honored local veterans and service members on November 19 with its annual Heroes Night with The Fund. The event featured an array of golf competitions including the PXG Combine, which tested participants’ putting skills in PXG Philadelphia’s putting studio, and driving accuracy and distance in the King of Prussia store’s fitting bays featuring Trackman technology. Participants were given scorecards to record the results of each leg of the competition and prizes were awarded to the top finishers. Similar events were held at each PXG store throughout the United States.
In addition to the PXG Combine, the event featured a golf ball design activity for kids and beginner-friendly golf experiences including a clinic and Q&A session with local golf professional Daniel Guest. Guest operates Imagen Golf (imagengolf.
com), a golf instruction and advisory firm with outdoor locations in Doylestown, Morrisville, and North Wales and an indoor location in Doylestown. Guest spoke to participants about the importance of proper club fitting, avoiding the golf video rabbit hole on the internet and social media, and mastering a golf swing that’s right for each individual.
“If you’re going to play a lot of golf, you need to be properly fitted for clubs,” said Guest. “And at Imagen golf, we call it being ‘optimized.’ You want to be optimized, not just fitted. Fitted means to try this or try that. But optimizing is what the PXG guys here do.”
Semper Fi & America’s Fund provides injured service members, veterans, and military families with immediate, impactful financial assistance and lifetime support.
PXG is also in its 13th year of the
“Double Down for Veterans” campaign in which PXG founders Bob and Renee Parsons, through their Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation, match donations made to the Semper Fi & America’s Fund up to $10 million. To date, Bob & Renee Parsons have donated over $100 million.
The Parsons family and PXG have a long history of supporting the military. The company’s PXG for Heroes program provides a 20 percent discount on golf equipment and 30 percent on golf apparel to the men and women of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, law enforcement, firefighters, EMTs, teachers and nurses. Indoor golf could see another surge with TGL’s TV coverage of a new, accessible kind of golf
Big-time spectator golf’s shiny new toy, Tomorrow’s Golf League (TGL) - which showcases teams of three well-known professional golfers facing off in a state-ofthe-art 250,000 square foot indoor golf arena with a seating capacity of 1,500 - debuted on ESPN last week to an audience of nearly 1 million television viewers. This week’s match, which has Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Links GC (a squad rounded out by Max Homa and Kevin Kisner) facing off against Justin Rose, Sahith Theegala, and Collin Morikawa of the LAGC (Los Angeles Golf Club), should put interest into overdrive. Woods, at age 49, still moves the needle on the fairways and, apparently, in nighttime indoor golf, too.
Prime time professional golf on a weeknight was a calculated risk, to be sure, but with a couple of dozen of the PGA Tour’s most recognizable and popular players appearing in a fast-paced, tech-powered fun-focused version of the royal and ancient sport, TGL has a puncher’s chance to capture a new and enthusiastic audience and make the game’s professional tours a more inviting and inclusive draw.

To the naked eye, TGL, contested on a dazzling indoor golf stage, is definitely a more energetic presentation than the buttoned-up, genteel week-to-week golf tournaments we have been accustomed to watching. TGL matches are played in a purpose-built man cave on steroids. The SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, is slightly smaller than an American football field and loaded with techinfused indoor golf bells and whistles.
Players hit toward a mammoth 53 ft by 64 ft video screen that, through proprietary software links real-time launch monitor data on each golf shot and to the GreenZone, a 41-yard diameter rotating turntable with a synthetic putting green and real sand bunkers. Even the hitting zones are one of a kind. The Shot Boxes consist of real-world playing surfaces for tee shots and approach shots. The teeing areas feature real grass hitting areas, one with longer grass and one with closely cropped grass. The gameplay is infused with constant movement, quick breaks between shots and engineered
lighting and pulse-pounding music that serves as a constant reminder that this is not granddad’s golf match we’re watching.
Whether more viewers begin to connect with the players in a more meaningful and engaging way remains to be seen, but the arena itself, locked and loaded with indoor golf’s most advanced technology, is the unexpected star of the broadcast. The giant video screen today’s top pros hit into in TGL matches is a constant reminder of how far indoor golf technology, simulators, launch monitors and overhead projectors have come in recent years. Home simulator installations are at an all-time high and the scalable options for making one’s indoor golf dreams a reality on any variety of scalable budgets suddenly seem endless.
You could not fault viewers if they find themselves watching TGL and getting the itch or the curiosity to explore an indoor golf space of their own. The Indoor Golf Shop - ShopIndoorGolf.com - is the leading manufacturer of indoor golf equipment and home to the largest selection of residential and commercial indoor golf products online. Our team has helped indoor golf clients of every budget with every room type (even garage and basement spaces) find the ideal simulator for their space, desires, and budget. Any questions a first-time simulator, launch monitor, simulator screen or enclosure customer might have, we take pride and pleasure in helping problem-solve with the goal of turning your indoor golf dreams into a reality.
While TGL takes the proportions and gamification of indoor golf to an extreme, it’s still extremely accessible for a wider-than-ever range of consumers to have a home simulator, play their favorite courses at home, practice to get better, entertain friends and family and even play a variety of other sports in addition to indoor golf. Once you’ve hit into a sim off of The Indoor Golf Shop’s true-to-golf, ultrarealistic Sigpro Softy Hitting Mat or entertained guests inside your very-own purpose-built SigPro Enclosure, you’ll know your passion and enjoyment for golf will have reached an all-time high. There’s really nothing like it.
We’re your best and most efficient source for launch monitors and full golf simulator systems from tops brands like Trackman,
Uneekor, Foresight, Garmin, Bushnell, Flightscope, Pro Tee, Full Swing, and Tru Golf. A person playing golf in a roomDescription automatically generated
The Indoor Golf Shop is the DIYer’s best friend when it comes to indoor golf simulator projects. “A lot of people are intimidated by the process and think it’s going to be overly complicated,” says Indoor Golf Shop Founder and CEO Rene Delgado. “But at least with our simulator box-type solutions, everything we manufacture, and design is meant to be set up and installed by a customer in under an hour. Our enclosures, our frames, are push-button connect, color coded, and amazingly simple to put together. You can put it up within 20 minutes. One person can do it. We’ve tried to make it as easy as possible for customers to do it on their own.” And whichever company you choose to buy components from, make sure they have a support team that can help walk you through each installation step over the phone. Some can even remotely connect to your computer and calibrate the system.”
With 2.4 million new golf participants in the U.S. since the pandemic and more than 33 million total playing non-traditional (TopGolf or indoor golf) in addition to the 27 million avid golfers in America, that’s a lot of folks who might be wondering - TGL-inspired or otherwise - what it takes to have indoor golf in their homes. We love those conversations. Contact us at ShopIndoorGolf.com or call us on 469-942-0980 and we can talk about the golf simulator space of your dreams.
