GOLF
TOUR
The world-renowned golf courses of Girona, Valencia and Gibraltar as well as Faro and Lisbon make the hearts of golf enthusiasts beat faster. Fine-sounding names like PGA Catalunya or Valderrama are part of every golfer‘s dream. Culinary delights perfectly complement the trip.
6
DAY ONE GIRONA – HOME OF PGA CATALUNYA Departing Switzerland in the morning, the first destination is Girona airport where your private driver is awaiting your arrival and will chauffeur you to your hotel, the “Melia Golf Vichy Catalan”, a modern property, situated on the doorstep of one of Spain’s best golf courses. After freshening up, tee off from the “PGA Golf de Catalunya” which has been regularly ranked as one of the Top 10 European venues by “Golf World Magazine” and has also played host to the Spanish Open and Sarazen World Open. There are two courses, one of which is the outstanding “Stadium Course”, with its undulating land with evergreens, oak trees and heather lining its perfect fairways. It is a technical course which suits professionals and amateurs of a good standard alike and boasts some truly spectacular holes. You enjoy special “Royal Green” VIP status and are provided with a lot of extras such as a free course planner, Pro V1 golf balls, or even an exclusive 30 minute golf clinic with PGA Catalunya Resort’s Head Professional Enric Lopez (available every Tuesday and Thursday from 3pm), among many other amenities. After a refreshment at the 19th hole, you may want to return to your hotel and prepare for your evening out. When you are ready, your private driver will take you into the historic town of Girona. You dine at the “Restaurante Celler de Can Roca”, ranked the 2nd best restaurant in the world by “Restaurant Magazine”. Catalan ingredients are given centre-stage billing on the menu. Clever techniques complement simple flavour combinations designed to titillate the palate. It’s clever stuff and utterly delicious. After dinner, your driver will be waiting for you to drive you back to the hotel.
5
DAY TWO TOWARDS THE COAST AND VALENCIA After breakfast, it’s time to tee off again on the “Stadium Course” although you also have the opportunity to play the “New Course”, planned and laid out in the same meticulous way as the “Stadium Course” but offering wider fairways and larger greens. This course has given the “PGA de Catalunya” new impetus, offering golfers of all levels the chance to play on one of the best and most beautiful courses in Europe. Lunch can be enjoyed at the Clubhouse’s “Bistrot Bar”. When you are ready, your driver takes you back to Girona airport from where you fly down to Valencia. On arrival at Valencia airport, a private driver will be waiting to greet you. You are headed straight into the centre of Valencia which over the last decade has experienced an incredible renaissance, hosting the America’s Cup, Formula 1 as well as the annual boisterous “Las Fallas” festival. The landscape of the city has changed, too. Beyond the historic quarter with its Gothic legacy, rises up the spectacular “City of Arts and Sciences”, the creation of the architect and native son Santiago Calatrava. As you enjoy a short “Highlights of Valencia” tour, take in this stunning project which marked the arrival of Valencia once more as a major European city. Your guide will also take you into the heart of the city, explaining the importance of Valencia in medieval times and the
6
role it plays in the culture of modern Spain. You’ll see the amazing buildings of the complex, such as the opera house, planetarium, science museum and bridges, and later visit Valencia’s attractive old quarter on foot. Finally, you’ll enter the guild hall known as “Lonja de los Mercaderes” declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and you’ll explore the modernist-style market known as “Mercado Central de Valencia”. A wine tasting at a gourmet shop is next on the to-do list. The tasting will introduce you to Spanish wines as well as the Spanish champagne “Cava”. Before dinner, you’ll be shown how to cook an authentic “Valencian paella” whereby the chef explains all the ingredients, the steps of the cooking process and actually makes the paella in front
of you, as you enjoy an aperitif until the paella is ready to be eaten. Bon provecho! After dinner, your driver takes you back to your hotel. You will be accommodated in the “Parador de El Saler”. Located on the coast, this modern property boasts large comfortable rooms – some even with sea views. The completely renovated and new plan building strictly respects the natural setting with its grand glass-dominated structure bringing guests closer to “La Albufera Nature Reserve” from all indoor spaces.
DAY THREE
WELCOME TO PORTUGAL AND THE ALGARVE
OFF TO THE SOUTH OF SPAIN It’s time to swing the clubs again. After a wholesome breakfast, you play on the “El Saler Course” adjacent to the hotel. Designed by Javier Arana, this 18-hole, 72 par course has held a number of Spanish Opens and is ranked No. 29 in the world. The Saler Golf course is considered, by professionals, amateurs, institutions and the specialised press alike, to have one of the best course layouts in the world. The course layout is varied, ranging from the beach links reminiscent of the famous Scottish golf courses, to areas of typical Mediterranean forest. The fairways are outstanding, ample but with few off-limits, and well positioned bunkers keep players on their toes. The room for error is small. The first 12 holes take the player through pine groves, with the last 6 arranged in a link style through dunes and along the scenic coastline where there is a punishing rough. The club house is the perfect place to enjoy lunch before you are heading to Valencia airport for your flight to Gibraltar. Upon arrival, your driver will take you to the
7
DAY FOUR
“Club Maritimo Hotel in Sotogrande”, a beautiful hotel situated by the Sotogrande Marina overlooking Gibraltar, Morocco and the Mediterranean Sea. 45 cosy rooms offer the very latest in in–room technologies, marble bathrooms and balconies with panoramic views over the port of Sotogrande and the sea. The fine restaurant opens onto a terrace and offers traditional delicacies together with new gastronomic trends. In the early evening, a stroll around the Sotogrande Marina bustling with restaurants, bistros, boutique shops and bars may just be what you need to unwind. “Boka”, the restaurant where owners Jerome and wife Haby offer a short, but well-planned and enticing menu with true Gallic flair, is the place to go for dinner. Jerome learnt to cook at the “Hotel Bristol” in Paris and is a true crowd pleaser.
A day to be savoured: play Spain’s most famous and one of Europe’s best known and most loved golf courses – “Valderrama”. Home to the Volvo Masters, it has hosted World Golf Championships as well as, of course, the 1997 Ryder Cup. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Snr. and opened in 1985, the golf course is an exacting examination of shot-making, which many critics compare with “Augusta” in terms of presentation and attention to detail. Once completed, lunch in the club house will get you ready for your next adventure: you bid “Adios” to España and fly to Faro in Portugal. A private driver is awaiting you and will chauffeur you to the “Hilton Vilamoura As Cascatas Golf Resort & Spa”, situated amongst the golf courses in the upmarket beach town of Vilamoura in the central Algarve region, where you will be staying in a deluxe room. Take time to relax while enjoying the resort’s unparalleled selection of on-site facilities including golf simulation, 6 outdoor
pools, 3 excellent restaurants, 2 bars, and the “7 Spa” with private treatment rooms, steam bath, hydro-massage, sauna, pools and the “Zen Garden” relaxation area, among many other attractions. In 2011, the hotel received two prestigious accolades – “Portugal’s Best Luxury Hotel” from Business Destinations Magazine and “Portugal’s Leading Resort” at the World Travel Awards. In the evening, be amazed by a truly gastronomic experience – the welcome dinner at the hotel.
DAY FIVE DISCOVER LISBON In the morning, head off to play golf at the “Oceanico Victoria Golf Course” situated on Vale de Lobos. The “Oceanico Victoria” which covers some 90 hectares is the most recent golf course project of Arnold Palmer in Portugal. As one of the best and most sophisticated golf courses in Europe, utmost care has been taken to ensure the preservation of the wetlands and the typical vegetation of carob, olive and almond trees. The course features 5 or 6 tees per hole, wide, undulating fairways, extensive water hazards and cleverly positioned bunkers. In addition there is an exceptional driving range and a putting green of some 2,500m². The “Oceanico Victoria” golf course is an 18-hole, par 72 championship layout, measuring 6,609 metres from the back tees. Opened in 2004, “Oceanico Victoria” is a unique, unforgettable experience for all who play there, and is a major venue for top international tournaments. Lunch will be served at “Restaurant Millennium” before returning to the hotel for check-out. The transfer to the airport is topped off by a brief panoramic tour of Faro, accompanied by a private guide. Enjoy your flight to Lisbon, followed by a private transfer to Cascais where you will check-in at “Hotel Oitavos”. The hotel combines ultramodern design with an untouched natural location within the “Sintra-Cascais Nature Reserve”. It features pools, tennis and squash facilities and, of course, a golf course. All rooms are decorated with elegant furnishings in white and blue colours, and are equipped with extra-long beds and a separate living area with satellite TV and free Wi-Fi. Each room extends out on a private balcony. Oitavos’s full-service spa offers natural and organic treatment products and a holistic approach to wellness. The hot tub and dry and wet saunas further allow guests to have a relaxing body experience. Take some time to rest before savouring dinner in the hotel restaurant.
DAY SIX GOLFING ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF LISBON Play golf in the magnificent countryside of the “Oitavos Dunes” in the morning. In September 2011, the most respected golf course ranking in the world – biannually published by Golf Magazine – upgraded “Oitavos Dunes” by 20 places to be considered the 68th best course in the world and the second best in mainland Europe. The recognition is a result of 15 minor changes to the course, including new tees on holes 7 and 9, and the placement of sand dunes in strategic holes such as the 10th. After a good game of golf, lunch will be served at “Verbasco” situated in the club house. Enjoy some free time to rest before being chauffeured to the city of Lisbon
8
taking in breathtaking views of the sea along the Marginal Avenue linking the capital to the town of Cascais. A short panoramic tour of the Belem neighbourhood offering the most famous monuments in town such as “Jerónimos Monastery” and “Belem Tower” is followed by a walking visit through Baixa’s and Chiado’s most elegant sections in the city centre. A stylish dinner is served at the panoramic restaurant “Tágide” with unique views over the city. Before driving back to Cascais, there is still time for a night cap in one of the most exclusive Lisbon nightclubs.
DAY SEVEN A FINAL ROUND OF GOLF Early in the morning you will drive to “Penha Longa” Golf Course situated in Sintra for one more tee off. Ranked in the top 30 courses in Continental Europe, the “Atlantic Course” designed by the famed Robert Trent Jones Jr., is escapist golf at its best. With its bold drives, courageous approaches and artful greens, it is both an adrenalin rush and a soothing journey through one of Portugal’s most inspiring landscapes. The “Atlantic Course” is an 18-hole, par 72 championship course with 6,290 metres in length. It is a challenging course with breathtaking views over the ocean with Estoril and
Cascais to the South and the Sintra hills to the North. The “Arola” restaurant inside the resort is “the” spot to savour lunch – innovative, fashionable and defiantly cool, “Arola” is relaxed and chilled. A disciple of Ferrán Adrià of Barcelona with whom he worked for eight years, Sergi Arola’s twin passions are music and food and he enjoys a rare culinary pedigree. Arola’s menu offers a creative and contemporary twist to Portuguese cuisine, mixing tradition and heritage with his inimitable modern approach. After this culinary adventure, a private transfer takes you straight to Lisbon airport where you will board your last flight of this journey back to Zurich.

Do not worry about the luggage: it will be transferred separately to Jukkasjärvi. The dogs are keen on getting a move on. It is amazing how strong these small huskies are. You sit down in the sled, and off you go… The dogs cool down right away and the only sounds you can hear are their paws against the snow, and the dogsled drivers’ commands to the huskies. A stop for an exciting lunch inside a wooden Lapp hut will give you the chance to warm up next to a cosy fire. The dogsled safari ends after about 2 hours with the arrival at and a guided tour of the “Icehotel” which is situated in the village of Jukkasjärvi. The heart and backbone is the river “Torne” flowing freely through the unspoilt wilderness. The pure water and the steady movement of the river creates the clearest ice possible. The tour ends with a welcome drink in glasses made of ice. After a day of adventure, nightfall approaches quickly. The outdoor temperature drops and when you step inside the “Icehotel”, you feel a rush of warm air. Inside, the temperature is never colder than -5°C to -8°C, regardless of how cold it may be outside. You are accommodated in the art suites of the hotel. The maze of winding streets and alleyways are lined with the tiny workshops of literally thousands of craftsmen. Amidst the constant swirl of activity, you will be mesmerized by a multitude of colours and smells, from the exotic fragrance of spices and perfumes to the stench of tanneries, from the vibrant colours of piled saffron and cumin to the delicate chatter of hundreds of tiled fountains. At almost every street corner you are reminded of the rich heritage of Fes, further exemplified by a visit to the medieval Koranic schools of “Attarine” and to the splendid courtyards of the oldest university in the world, the “Karaouine”, built in 859.

OUARZAZATE – GATEWAY TO THE DESERT be rewarded with a real sense of adventure. As you get further away you will begin to feel the isolation and remoteness of desert life until you reach your private desert camp in an exclusive area – the perfect spot to watch magnificent sunrises and sunsets, as well as listen to and watch traditional Berber songs and dances. At night, lie under the stars and look at the constellations, some of which can never be seen anywhere else other than in this remote area.
Enjoy a fabulous sunrise before breakfast, then you are chauffeured to your private jet. The flight heads west over the “Anti Atlas and High Atlas Mountains” to Ouarzazate, a region which guarded the trading route to Timbuktu and has been immortalized by Hollywood in many films, including Lawrence of Arabia. Here you will be met and taken for a short drive to the oasis of “Fint” in the gorges of the “Anti Atlas Mountains”. Enjoy the scenery and a nice lunch before you continue to visit “Ait Ben Haddou”, one of Morocco’s best known villages since it is often used as a location for fashion and film shootings (including Gladiator, Babel, Kingdom of Heaven, among many others). “Ait Ben Haddou” is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the village’s old section consists of deep red “kasbahs” so tightly packed to-
gether they appear to be a single building. Your flight to Marrakesh will take you straight over the highest peak in North Africa, the “Toubkal” at 14,000 feet. For your comfort, formalities will be dealt with quickly on arrival and you are pre-checked-in in your hotel – the “Sofitel”. For the perfect finish of the day, reflect on today’s impressions with a nice dinner at “La Mamounia”.
DAY SIX ESSENCE OF MARRAKESH Welcome to Marrakesh! The whole first day will be devoted to the exploration of the city which was settled in the early 11th century – five centuries later it had become one of Morocco’s dominant centres of art and culture. Today, Marrakesh is the nation’s fourth largest city, with an exciting blend of modern architecture and an ancient walled Medina. In the morning, you travel via horse drawn carriage to the lush “Majorelle Gardens”, a botanical garden in the heart of the city. French artist Jaques Majorelle created this masterpiece in 1924 during Morocco’s colonial period as a protectorate of France. Here you are likely to see many of the bird species native to North Africa as well as a rich flora. These gardens belonged to the French designer Yves St. Laurent until he died and was buried here. Continue to the private gardens of Mr. Benchaabane, an artist, botanist and perfume maker. Mr. Benchaabane redesigned the “Majorelle Gardens” when he worked for Yves St. Laurent, however, now he is taking care of his own. Lunch will be served in a beautiful property – the “Palmeraie of Marrakesh”. In the afternoon, discover the hidden corners of the Medina of Marrakesh, the local crafts circles such as the iron and lantern makers, herbalists, wood carvers and painters – the whole world from “1001 Nights”. Later in the afternoon, venture to “Djemaa El Fna”, the heart of Marrakesch where your fantasies of Morocco will come to life. Serving as the central square, this place is for both locals and tourists who come here for food and for fun. There are snake charmers, storytellers, acrobats, and musicians – a fascinating and entertaining world. It’s a circus atmosphere that has existed ever since the earliest days of the city. To wind down from all the excitment, enjoy dinner at the very nice Moroccan restaurant “Yacout”.
21
DAY SEVEN A SPECIAL VIEW OF THE ATLAS MOUNTAINS You are picked up by a 4x4 vehicle from your hotel early in the morning and you depart to the take off pad in the countryside north of Marrakesh for a hot-air balloon ride. During the one hour scenic flight, you will have superb panoramic views over small villages, the immense palm groves extending as far as the “Tensift River”, and the backdrop of the “Atlas Mountains”. The flight is followed by a 4x4 mini circuit, ending in a typical tiny hamlet where you will enjoy mint tea and Moroccan pastry prepared by the local villagers. You are going to return to the hotel around midday, after crossing the “Tensift River” and the “Palmeraie”. After lunch you are chauffeured to the airport for your flight back to Zurich.

OUARZAZATE
RUSSIA
Russian metropolises like Saint Petersburg and Moscow are full of urban live and hidden cultural treasures. The rarely known Sami culture around Murmansk, as well as Yekaterinburg, a city characterised by religion and politics, offer different impressions of the Russian soul.
44
DAY ONE IMPRESSIVE, GRAND, SAINT PETERSBURG
A WORLD CULTURAL HERITAGE
You start your journey to magical Russia with a private jet flight to St. Petersburg in the morning. On arrival, a transfer to the “W Hotel St. Petersburg” in the city is arranged for you where a welcome lunch will be served. After you have enjoyed your meal, head off and experience the city on a private guided tour.
After enjoying a wholesome breakfast, an excursion to “Peterhof” will leave you in awe. One of St. Petersburg’s most famous and popular visitor attractions, the palace and park at “Peterhof” (also known as “Petrodvorets”) are often referred to as “the Russian Versaille”, although many visitors conclude that the comparison does not do justice to the grandeur and scope of this majestic estate.
You’ll get excellent insights into the history, architecture and main landmarks of St. Petersburg: from the famous “Split of the Vassilievsky” island with its wonderful view to the “Palace Embankment”, to the landmark “St. Isaac’s Cathedral”, and the perfect ensemble of “Palace Square” to “Smolny Cathedral”.At around 6pm, you are chauffeured to the famous “Hermitage” where you will enjoy an exclusive private evening tour. The guide of the museum will take you to the “Closed Funds of Hermitage”, the special storeroom, and the renowned “Pavlin Clock” (The Peacock Clock) will be wound just for you. To top off your first day, indulge in a private dinner in the “Throne Room” at the “Restaurant Russian Empire” and let yourself be immersed in this truly amazing atmosphere. At the end of the night, your driver takes you back to your hotel.
24
DAY TWO
Lunch will be served at the “Summer Palace” at Peterhof. In the afternoon you will visit the “Peter and Paul Fortress”. The fortress is known to be the first building of St. Petersburg. Inside the fortress, the beautiful cathedral contains the tombs of most of the Romanov tsars. For the rest of the afternoon, explore the city on foot and maybe even treat yourself to some shopping. At 7pm, a Russian horse carriage takes you to the “St. Petersburg Restaurant” for a wonderful final dinner in St. Petersburg.
DAY THREE SAMI CULTURE OF RUSSIA After breakfast you will be chauffeured to the airport for your flight to Murmansk. Once landed, a visit to the nuclear ship “Lenin”, the famous nuclear icebreaker, is first on the list. “NS Lenin” is both – the world’s first nuclear-powered surface ship and the first nuclearpowered civilian vessel.Launched on December 5, 1957, the ship remained in service for 30 years on the northern sea route, breaking ice for container ships. Icebreaker “Lenin” could open passages through 1.5 to 2 metre thick ice, which was sufficient to make yearround navigation in the region possible. During that period, the icebreaker escorted a total of 3,741 transport ships. Today the icebreaker is moored to the Murmansk Ship Terminal for eternal anchorage and turned into a museum. An excursion guided by a crew member on board of the icebreaker gives you access to the captain’s bridge and the doctor’s room. You will also have the chance to see the nuclear reactors and the engine system, sit on the commander’s chair and touch the steering wheel of this Soviet legend, followed by lunch in a local restaurant. At 1pm your next adventure is waiting for you: a visit to the Russian “Saami”. A helicopter will take you to the Lapp village “Lovozero”, the centre of the Russian Saami culture. The majority of Russian Saami still live in or near this settlement. The primary occupation of the inhabitants of Lovozero is reindeer farming, but they are also skilled fishermen and hunters, and they know the tundra intimately. They possess a rich, unique folklore and many of them still wear the distinctive and colourful traditional Saami clothing.
Explore the landscape by sledge – drawn by a snowmobile – which takes you from the airfield to the reindeer farm. After covering the 18 kilometre distance through the tundra, have a try at feeding the animals, listen to songs in “Chuma” by the fire, and enjoy typical Saami dishes for dinner. After dinner, you will return to Murmansk by helicopter. Get a glimpse of “Seydozero’s” picturesque lake while in the air. This place is known far outside the “Kola Peninsula”. The “Lovozersky Tundra” with its unforgettable mountain landscapes is stunning and the natural rock painting of an ancient giant “Kuyva” – a nearly 70 metre high image of a human figure, well-respected by the ancient people of the Kola Peninsula – takes your breath away. Back in Murmansk, you check in at the “Holiday Inn Polyarnie Zory”, your home for the night.
25
DAY FOUR RUSSIAN ARCTIC Enjoy breakfast before you are chauffeured to the airport for your flight to Arkhangelsk. The city of Arkhangelsk rests upon the shores of the White Sea. Throughout the four centuries of its existence, life in this city has been closely connected with the sea, having been the first sea trading port, the first sea gate to countries of Western Europe, and home to domestic shipbuilding. Your excursion introduces you to the history of the city, its sights and the diverse life of modern Arkhangelsk. The city also played an important role in arctic exploration as many world-renowned expeditions commenced from its moorings. Experience the sea glory of Arkhangelsk with stories about the arctic expeditions and brave pioneers. On your visit to the arcade on the embankment of the river “Dvina” you can admire wood sculptures aged 16 to 18 years old at the “Museum of Fine Arts”, as well as manuscripts and ancient treasures in the “Regional Museum”. As you approach “Lenin Square”, the city centre, the two main streets, “Avenue of the Trinity” and the “Resurrection”, are the place to be with their many restaurants, cafes and museums. A visit to the “Museum of Wooden Architecture and Folk Art – Small Karelians” introduces you to the life and crafts of the North. It covers an area of 140 hectares that housed more than 120 religious, residential and commercial buildings from the 17th to the 20th century. The wonderful Russian wooden architecture constructed by exceptionally gifted northern artists is the highlight of the tour. At 6pm you will leave Arkhangelsk and your plane will bring you to Yekaterinburg where you will check in at the “Hyatt Regency”.
50
DAY FIVE YEKATERINBURG – CITY AT THE FOOT OF THE URAL MOUNTAINS After your breakfast enjoy a special city tour including sights such as the historical square at the “Place of the First Manufacture” – the monument to the founders of the city, the mining factory, the residence of the President, the Governor, the main square, the house and the street of Boris Yeltsin, the wooden houses “Kuptsova Agafurovyh”, the Palace of Gold “Rastorugevyh”, the monument to the “Black Tulip”, and the “Church on the Blood” built on the site of the demolished “Ipatiev House”, among many others. Next, your driver takes you to “Ganina Yama” – a 40-minute to 1 hour drive, depending on the traffic. “Ganina Yama” is an abandoned mine a few miles from Yekaterinburg in the “Sverdlovsk” region. In the middle of the 19th century, this piece of land was purchased for the purpose of gold mining by the contractor Gabriel (Gavrila). It is worth noting here that the gold was never found. However, they actively mined iron ore to the 20th century. Later, the mine was completely abandoned. The name “Ganina Yama” came from the nickname of the contractor – the villagers called him “Ganey”. The “Romanov” royal family was taken here, killed and thrown into the pit on the night of July 16, 1918. In 1991,
27
the Archbishop of Melchizedek blessed and established crosses in “Ganina Yama” where the remains of the royal family are buried. On October 1, 2000, Reverend Vincent, Archbishop of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye, made the first stone for the foundation of the church – the main temple of the new monastery – in honor of the holy royal martyrs and in 2003, the Archbishop consecrated the last of seven temples, located just behind the “open mine”, around which every evening a penitential procession takes place. You will be welcomed by a local priest and enjoy a lovely lunch in his company, followed by an introduction to his life and his religion. Ever since the revolution, Yekaterinburg has to deal with its bitter past: exactly here, in the house of engineer Ipatyev N. N., the family of the last Russian tsar “Nikolay the Second” was killed in 1918. The Bolsheviks didn’t want to
risk anything and tried to destroy the remains of the tsar, the members of his family and even the servants in Ganina Yama’s natural boundary. Hence, Ganina Yama’s monastery and the “Temple of Blood” became a place of repentance and sanctity in only a few months. After this monumental experience, you are chauffeured back to Yekaterinburg airport for your flight to Moscow where your driver is already awaiting your arrival. You will be staying at the “Ritz Carlton Hotel” where you will also be able to enjoy a late dinner.
TAG SECHS
DAY SIX MODERN MOSCOW Relax in the morning and have a long breakfast. At around 10am you will be picked up for your city tour of the capital. The sightseeing tour commences with some introductory commentaries, then continues with a 30-minute stop at the “Red Square”, a drive by the “Kremlin Embankment”, via the “Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts”, a picture stop at “Christ the Savior Cathedral”, along “Ostozhenka” street and via the “Leo Tolstoy House-Museum”, among many other stops such as the “World War 2 Memorial”, the “Triumphal Arch” or the “Monument to Field Marshall Kutuzov”. After around 2 hours of sightseeing, a light lunch will be served at the “Pushkin” restaurant. In the afternoon, enjoy the famous shopping malls of Moscow and explore the “Red Square” and all the attractions close-by. At 6pm a private tour at the “Kremlin” will provide you with unforgettable impressions. The museum’s guide takes you to the heart of the “Kremlin” – the “Great Kremlin Palace” (Parade Halls, Palace of Facets) – the official residence of the Russian president. Here, official ceremonies such as the inauguration of the president, presentation of state awards as well as awards to foreign ambassadors, holiday receptions, among others are held. After this unique experience you are chauffeured to the river “Moskwa” where you will enjoy a dinner cruise.
28
DAY SEVEN DESCENDING INTO A MAGNIFICENT WORLD Breakfast is served at the “Ritz Hotel” before you are driven to the famous “Bolshoi” theatre. On March 28, 1776, Ekaterina II assigned the “privilege” of the maintenance of the performances, masquerades, balls and other amusements to Prince Peter Urusov for a period of ten years. This date is considered to be the foundation of the “Bolshoi Theatre”. A private tour will guide you through the theatre and its history. Afterwards you will explore the underground of Moscow and its famous subway stations. Many metro stations are real palaces with marble columns, imposing chandeliers, sculptures, mosaics, stained glass, and many other luxuries.
However, the subway still is and has been the main means of transport in the city. In about 90 minutes you will get to see the most beautiful stations underneath Moscow with their unique architecture. Back in the daylight, relish lunch in a local restaurant – it is the last one in Russia for this journey. Afterwards, you will be picked up and brought straight to the airport for your flight back home.

ARCHANGELSK SAINT PETERSBURG YEKATERINBURG MOSCOW
SCANDINAVIAN CAPITALS
Be it the special light or the Scandinavians‘ laid-back mentality, the flair of the cities of Copenhagen, Stockholm and Helsinki is unique and are always worth a visit. As a World Heritage Site, the island of Gotland is another must on this tour.
58
DAY ONE DENMARK’S CAPITAL FROM ITS MOST BEAUTIFUL SIDE Let the adventure begin with a flight in your private jet to Copenhagen airport where a car and guide will welcome you and take you to the “Nimb Hotel” in the heart of Copenhagen – the capital of Denmark and its most populous city, situated on the islands of Zealand and Amager. With the completion of the transnational “Øresund Bridge” in 2000, Copenhagen has become the centre of the increasingly integrated Øresund region. Within this region, Copenhagen and the Swedish city of Malmö are growing into a combined metropolitan area. Start off your Copenhagen experience with a traditional Danish lunch at “Kanal Caféen” with delicious openfaced sandwiches and a good selection of warm dishes. Such a busy and fun place – a “must-see” in Copenhagen’s food scene. After lunch, visit “Christiania” – the centre of the Hippie and Flower Power Move-
ment in Northern Europe. Experience a different way of living and creative architecture with a local, very authentic guide. One of the highlights of your Copenhagen experience includes a visit to “The Little Mermaid” – the symbol of Copenhagen. “The Little Mermaid” welcomes travellers from sea to Copenhagen. Myth has it, that the little mermaid saved a prince from drowning and fell in love with him. With this wonderful love story, the journey continues to the royal palaces – situated in the centre of the city – in Amalienborg. “Christian VII Palace” – usually only in use for the Queen’s guests – will be opened especially for you. Next up, your guide will take you to “Hirschsprungske Collection” – a charming place and the place to visit if one wants to see typical Danish painters from the 1800s to the 1900s. It is a very intimate place to get to know an important period in Danish art.
60
After you get back to the hotel, relax and get ready for dinner. The restaurant “Geranium” – home of the “Gold Bocuse d’Or 2011” – is located in a tower with views over the biggest park in Copenhagen, the green copper roofs and the windmills of the whole Øresund area. After dinner, enjoy a romantic walk in “Tivoli”, the oldest, biggest and most beautiful amusement park in Copenhagen, right in the centre of town. Along with the many modern amusements, there are 120,000 coloured lights as well as lots of flower decorations and ancient trees – it is like stepping in to a fairy tale! The evening ends with beautiful fireworks, a tradition in “Tivoli”.
DAY TWO HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN SHOWS HIS HOME After a hearty breakfast meet your guide and go on a full day tour, starting with a visit to Copenhagen’s public and most famous graveyard, “Assistens Cemetery”, surrounded by tall yellow walls. It is situated at Nørrebro, one of Copenhagen’s most famous quarters, just a few minutes from downtown. The world famous fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen – well, his lookalike – will guide you around the cemetery, show you his grave and tell you all about his life as a writer and entertainer. He moved to Copenhagen as a teenager and wrote more than 100 fairy tales. “The Ugly Duckling”, “The Little Mermaid” and “The Little Match Girl” are just some of his most famous tales. It is almost as if he is still alive. The cemetery was originally a burial site for the poor, built in 1760, laid out to relieve the crowded graveyards inside the walled city. However, during the Golden Age in the first half of the 19th century it became mundane and many famous people were buried there, such as Hans Christian Andersen, Niels Bohr, Søren Kierkegaard among other famous cultural personalities. It is now time for lunch at “Søllerød Inn” – a Michelinstar-awarded establishment. Food critics are lining up to sing the praises of this handsome country road inn. And who can blame them? This is gourmet paradise, after all. Not only does “Søllerød Inn” offer outstanding gourmet meals with perfectly matching wines, the service is impeccable and unpretentious, and the atmosphere truly relaxing, making every meal a diner’s delight! After lunch drive to “Kronborg Castle” – the home of Shakespeare’s Hamlet – and also pay a short visit to “Louisiana” to enjoy some modern art. Back in town, go on a design walking tour to all the key places including “Jensen” and the famous “Royal Porcelain Factory”. For dinner tonight you are taken over the “Øresund Bridge” to “Bloom in the Park”. After dinner your host will introduce you to some of the coolest bars in town!
32
DAY THREE VISBY ON THE ISLAND OF GOTLAND In the morning, after some leisure time, you will transfer to your jet for a short flight to the Swedish island Gotland and its capital Visby. The Hanseatic city of Visby, with its unique cultural offerings, has been recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site. Discover Visby with a local guide: the “Ring Wall”, almost 3.5 kilometres in length, encloses the merchants’ old stone buildings, churches and street network. The wall is built of limestone, has three main entrances and over 50 towers, and is surrounded by moats. It was built not only to protect the city from its enemies but also to wall it off from the surrounding countryside. Throughout the ages, merchants, industrialists, Vikings, kings and members of the nobility have visited this medieval city. A membership in the Hanseatic League made Visby enormously wealthy. During the 12th and 13th centuries, Visby became one of the foremost cities of the Baltic area. The townscape is dominated by magnificent buildings of stone. Almost 200 stone buildings dating
from the Middle Ages have been completely or partly preserved. At several places in the city, trading houses, with their impressive stepped gables, vaulted cellars and Gothic-inspired façades, stand to this day. After an exciting tour through Visby, you are chauffeured to your jet for a short flight to Stockholm. Once there, you are taken to your hotel. The “Grand Hotel” in Stockholm has been home to celebrities, high-profile events and everyday bon vivants since 1874. Situated in the best waterfront location imaginable, the hotel overlooks the “Royal Palace” and “Gamla Stan”, Stockholm’s old town. Enjoy dinner at “Mathias Dahlgren Matsalen”, a fabulous restaurant with a 2-Michelin-stars chef.
DAY FOUR EXPERIENCE STOCKHOLM AT FIRST HAND Start off with a tour of “City Hall”, the place of the prestigious “Nobel Banquet” which takes place every year on December 10th. Then hit the road and pass by some of the 14 islands of Stockholm and enjoy lovely views of this remarkable town. Once on the island of “Gamla Stan”, go for a guided walk in the old part of town. This is the heart of Stockholm and it is here where the history of Stockholm begins one thousand years ago. Stroll the narrow, medieval cobblestone streets and absorb the atmosphere. Pass by “Storkyrkan”; visit the armory at the “Royal Palace”, and explore the creative process at the “Nobel Museum”: “What is creativity and how can creative activity best be encouraged?” “Which is more important to the creative process: the individual or the environment?” The “Centennial Exhibition” examines these questions by presenting selected laureates and milieus from the 100 year old history of the Nobel Prize. Lunch is at “Ulla Winbladh”, an old inn on the island of Djurgården. Once the royal hunting ground, the island is still owned by the Swedish crown. After lunch, feel like royalty yourself: enjoy a ride around Djurgården either in a royal horse carriage or on horseback alongside the carriage. The tour will end at Skansen, then visit the “Nordic Museum” and “Vasa Museum”. Top off your day with dinner at “Sturehoffor” before being transferred to your hotel.
33
DAY FIVE HIGHLIGHTS OF HELSINKI After a nice breakfast at your hotel meet your guide at the hotel lobby. Walk to the pier and board a luxurious yacht for a tour of both, the “Baltic Sea” and “Lake Mälaren”. The yacht takes you to “Drottningholm Palace” – the residence of the royal family – where you will discover the “Palace Theatre”, dating back to 1766, which still operates in the same manner as in that time. No electricity is used to manoeuvre the machines at all. You will get unique access behind the scenes – you may even try to operate some of the machines. The theatre is very special – the only one of its kind still existing, thanks to the fact that Sweden did not (officially) participate in wars for the last 200 years! From “Drottningholm” you are chauffeured to the airport Bromma for your flight to Helsinki. Upon arrival you will be met by your driver and your guide who will accompany you on the drive to the heart of the city. A delicious lunch at the Lapp restaurant “Saaga” awaits you. Here you will find a slice of the rugged and magic atmosphere of Lapland. The enchantment of Lapland is brought to its guests by the service, interior décor and of course the food. Dishes are served on wooden platters, in “Kuksa” – wooden mugs – cast iron pots and ice. “Buresboahtin” – welcome to Lapland! After lunch it is time for sightseeing in Helsinki. The tour takes you to the magnificent “Senate Square”, a remarkable sight flanked by the powerful symbols of religion, science and politics: the “Lutheran Cathedral”, the main buil-
ding of the university and the “Senate Building”. Pass by the “Finlandia Congress and Concert Hall”, the “Olympic Stadium” and the “Presidential Palace” and also visit the “Temppeliaukio Church”. This church, carved into the rocks, is a bold modern construction from 1969 and maybe even one of the most famous sights in all of Finland. And last but not least a trip to the “Sibelius Park” is, of course, included before the tour ends at your hotel – the “Hotel Kämp”. Here at the most luxurious hotel in Helsinki you will experience timeless elegance and European glamour. Over the years, “Hotel Kämp” has accommodated royals and heads of states, as well as world-class international artists. Its walls can tell numerous love stories, and have seen unforgettable moments and important happenings in Finland’s history. Dinner at the hotel restaurant is highly commended. In Helsinki, “Kämp Restaurants” have charmed people from all over the world since 1887, when it was still customary to come to restaurants to see, be seen, and hear the latest news from abroad. The new “Brasserie Kämp” honours its long tradition, but the overall style is more modern and easily accessible. It is classy and elegant, but in a relaxed and welcoming kind of way.
DAY SIX PICTURESQUE CITY OF PORVOO After a relaxing breakfast meet your local guide for your transfer to the harbour. For the next three hours, explore the city in a luxury yacht – an exclusive opportunity to see wonderful Helsinki where it really reaches its full potential. Helsinki is one of the most beautiful seaside cities in Europe and it is best experienced from the sea. On your cruise you will be able to see the entire Helsinki metropolitan area with its beautiful islands. Indulge in a delicious picnic basket on board or enjoy lunch at an island restaurant somewhere en route – it’s up to you! In the afternoon, go on one of the most popular day trips from Helsinki. An excursion to the small town of Porvoo, just outside the city, will take your breath away. With its picturesque city centre, Porvoo rightly is a proposed UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town is famed for its many wooden buildings, scenically perched by the “Porvoo River” and on a fine summer day a stroll around the old part of town is very delightful indeed. In the evening – and back in Helsinki – a dinner at “Chez Dominique” is highly recommended. The restaurant, famous for its high quality and innovative take on fine dining, is located in the centre of Helsinki. The flavours of the restaurant originate from the Nordic and French cuisine.
DAY SEVEN FINNISH DESIGN Before leaving Helsinki you will go on an exclusive “Design Walk” with your local guide in the morning. The guided walk gives a general view of Finnish design, its history and world-known names and brands. It introduces young Finnish designers and emerging talents, and also includes related places of interest, such as design boutiques and workshops as well as a visit to “Design Forum Finland” with the “Design Forum Shop”. After the “Design Walk”, you are heading to Helsinki Airport for your flight back home.

The tour ends at the restaurant “Vijff Vlieghen”, where a three-course culinary dinner will be served. After an exciting first day and a delicious dinner you are picked up and chauffeured back to the hotel.
DAY TWO LONDON, THE CITY ON THE RIVER THAMES Enjoy breakfast before you are transferred to the airport for your onward flight to London. On arrival you will be met by your personal guide and travel escort for the day. The guide will be able to provide lots of valuable historic and topical information as you visit this fantastic city. The day begins with a private tour in a traditional black cab. The streets of London are an impossible mix of alleys, cul-de-sacs, one-ways, mews and thoroughfares and to travel around the city, even Londoners rely on taxis. Your first stop for the day is at “Harrods”, London’s most famous store for a buffet lunch in the “Georgian Restaurant”. After lunch, enjoy some time to shop at leisure before heading off for an invigorating rib ride (RIB – Rigid Inflatable Boats) on the “River Thames”. Travel at high speed in style while taking in the most spectacular sights of London, including the “Lon-
38
don Eye”, “HMS Belfast”, the “Tower of London” and “Shakespeare’s Globe”. The boat will stop at the “London Eye” and you will board your private “Champagne Capsule” on the “London Eye”. At 135 metres high it is the world’s highest observation wheel and the city’s fourth tallest structure. This unique attraction and extraordinary piece of engineering design and architecture offers unrivalled views of up to 40 kilometres in all directions and a totally new perspective of London’s landmarks. The ride lasts 30 minutes.
After your ride on the wheel, you are chauffeured to the London City Airport, travelling through the financial heart of London. Take off in your private jet. You are on your way to Berlin where your personal chauffeur awaits your arrival. After a short drive through the probably most exciting European metropolis at present, you will arrive at your hotel. Enjoy luxury and lightheartedness in one of the best 5-star hotels in Berlin – “The Regent Berlin” welcomes you in the historic heart of the city and is the perfect starting point to indulge in the vibrating city life. After arrival and check-in, look forward to the highlight of the evening: a three-course dinner at the gourmet restaurant “Fischer’s Fritz”, the only 2-star restaurant in Berlin. Go on a culinary journey into the world of gourmet and fish specialities and enjoy a luscious meal of the highest standards in an exclusive atmosphere. It is not for nothing that Christian Lohse,
the chef, and his team have been awarded with 2 Michelin stars in a row. A dinner that will fascinate every connoisseur. Afterwards, celebrate the end of this special day as desired: visit one of the many hotspots in town or collect your strength for the following day with a good rest.
DAY THREE “ICH BIN EIN BERLINER” The day starts with a classic city tour. Experience the highlights of the city in an exclusive van, starting with the most beautiful square in Berlin: the long-standing “Gendarmenmarkt”. Next up is “Checkpoint Charlie” where the city’s fascinating history can be experienced first-hand, followed by “Potsdamer Platz” which can be considered to be pointing the way ahead for the modern and new Berlin. The “Kulturforum West” (culture forum west) and the “Botschaftsviertel” (embassy quarter) are revealing the city’s cosmopolitan heart beat. The tour continues to “the temple for shopaholics” – the “KaDeWe” – and to the “Berlin Zoological Garden”. The palace “Charlottenburg” in the old West impresses with its baroque architecture and reminds you of the glory days of the “Hohenzollern”. Via the “Boulevard of June 17” with its popular triumphal column, you approach the most famous Berlin sight: the “Brandenburg Gate” and the “Reichstag”. In the summer of 1991, the Federal Government decided to move from Bonn to Berlin. At the same time the decision has been made that the new “Reichstag” will be open to the public including a restaurant for the visitors’ convenience. “Käfer”, a gourmet food specialist from Munich was chosen for this honour and has been offering breathtaking views along with its ambitious German cuisine next to governmental happenings since the official opening of the “Reichstag” on April 19, 1999. To this day it is still the only restaurant in the world set up in a parliament building. After a tour through the glassy dome of the “Reichstag”, time has come to enjoy lunch at the “Käfer”. Dwell on the fascinating views over the city and refuel with exquisite German cuisine. In the early afternoon an exclusive boat tour on the “Spree” river awaits you. Hop on a historic boat which will take you through one of the oldest quarters to the “Charlottenburg” palace. Expect to see some exceptional perspectives of the city from the water’s edge. In case you decide to visit Berlin in winter (November to
39
March), enjoy a tour through the world famous “Pergamon Museum” as an alternative to the boat tour. The rest of the afternoon is completely set aside for shopping. Discover the one-time glorious boulevard “Ku’damm” with its numerous luxurious boutiques and flagship store of international top designers. The day is topped off with dinner in the “Paris Bar”. A Berlin institution “par excellence”! The place to be for the Berlin high society, artists, actors and all those who wish to absorb the typical Berlin flair. Be seduced by the charm of the restaurant and enjoy an evening full of hospitality and warmth – the ideal place to end your stay in Berlin.
DAY FOUR PRAGUE – CAPITAL OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC Use the opportunity to indulge in a wholesome breakfast at the “Regent Hotel” before heading to the airport for your flight to Prague. After your arrival in Prague, a limousine and driver with a professional guide already awaits you and takes you straight to your hotel, the “Four Seasons Prague” – the best hotel in town. After check-in, your car will take you to the “Czech Bridge”, where a private river cruise including lunch is all set up for you. Prague is stunning from the boat! After a good lunch, your limousine will take you to an art gallery of your choice. Your guide will help you find the most interesting exhibitions according to your taste and preferences. However, the exhibition of the “Slav Epic” – a monumental masterpiece of Alphonse Mucha, the leading painter of the Art Nouveau epoch – is highly commended. As you are driven back to the hotel, your
40
car will stop at the “Prague Castle”. Your private guide will show you the highlights of this huge complex – the historical castle, the cathedral, the “Golden Lane”, and, if the weather permits, the romantic castle gardens with a fantastic view of Prague. Now it is time to dress up! A gala dinner in the historical Art Nouveau style restaurant at the “Imperial Hotel” starts at 8pm. The interior is stunning with millions of golden decorations and ceramic tiles covering the walls. Pillars in floral design bring back the atmosphere of the turn of the century. The “Imperial” was built in 1913 and completely reconstructed in 2006, restoring the original glamour and beauty of the Art Nouveau. You can admire the unique design of the place and taste typical Czech cuisine created with a modern twist by famous chef, Zdenek Pohlreich. After dinner, you can either hit the town and discover the many bars, jazz clubs and discos in the centre of Prague or you can decide to go straight back to your hotel and relax.
DAY FIVE SHOPPING AND STROLLING THROUGH PRAGUE As the first day in Prague was quite busy, today is all about relaxation, shopping and gastronomy. Start with a short sightseeing walk around the “Old Town Square” and the “Jewish Quarter”. Afterwards you may feel like shopping in “Parizska Street” where all luxurious brands and designers are located. If you are not into shopping, there is something very special in stock for you – a private visit of a small, traditional Czech brewery. Your Prague visit ends at the stylish “Adria Palace” – a great place for lunch in the very centre of the city. After a delicious meal, your car will take you to the hotel for check-out and then to the airport for your flight back home.

DAY THREE EXPERIENCE PRAGUE
DAY TWO “ÜDVÖZÖLLEK” – WELCOME TO BUDAPEST Enjoy a good Italian breakfast before departing to the airport for your flight to Budapest. Arriving at 11am, your guide and private car are already expecting you. Your first stop is at Föt where you will meet the Count or Countess Károlyi in their residence. Enjoy a cup of coffee and a piece of cake together with them in the saloon while you are introduced to royal Budapest and Hungary. By 2:30pm you arrive in the centre of Budapest and check-in at the “Four Seasons Hotel”. After lunch at the hotel restaurant, get ready for your city tour uncovering plenty of hidden treasures: beautiful gateways for carriages, apartment houses with picturesque inner courtyards, tiny shops preserving their century-old beauty, squares and cafés evoking Parisian flair, Art Nouveau palaces, passages being reanimated, cheerful statues among many other interesting and astounding sights. There are several magnificent buildings in the city centre of Budapest with the 150 year old “Gerbeaud” confectionery and café being the culinary heart of the city: Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Diana, Queen Beatrix of Holland, Madonna, Ralph Fiennes, Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas have all been here. Also worth mentioning is the recently restored “Március 15-e tér” (March 15th Square) where you can “follow” the Danube’s route through Hungary carved into stone. The river used to be the border of the Roman Empire, with settlements on either side. In the place of the square itself, the watchtower of “Contra Acquicum” used to play an important role in the fight against pagan tribes. You can find so-called “Danube and GPS stones” all
44
along the „New Main Street” running across the historical district and the heart of modern Budapest as well. Explore the city’s everyday beauties that cannot be seen elsewhere! This is what this unique Budapest tour is like. The program ends at the funicular at the “Chain Bridge and Tunnel”. Ride up to “Castle Hill” by funicular and admire the breathtaking panorama of Budapest. A boat trip on the Danube while in Budapest is an absolute “must”. It is a fact that Budapest has the best scenery from the Danube perspective. Thanks to its perfect geographical location, you can enjoy the closeby nature of “Buda Hills” and the hectic city life at the same time while rocking on the waves of the river. Your yacht has an open and covered part and offers all luxuries imaginable. So top off your experience on the Danube with a glass of wine. After the one hour boat tour, you are chauffeured back to your hotel to refresh. In the evening, prepare for an exclusive fine dining experience at “Ybl Villa”. The “Ybl Villa” is renowned as one of the most beautiful villas of Buda, and has been for 150 years. The ancient monumental building surrounded by a native tree park – as its name suggests – comes from the hands of Miklós Ybl: designed by József Hild for the then owner Antal Rósa, it was most probably Ybl who finished the construction.
After breakfast your guide and driver will pick you up for your transfer to the airport and your flight to Prague where you will be expected by a luxury limousine and a professional guide who will accompany you for the whole day and assure that your every wish is fulfilled. Once in the city centre, swap the limousine for a romantic horse carriage. In case of bad weather, the carriage can be covered with a transparent roof. The carriage will take you through the “Old Town”. You will see the unique Gothic style buildings in the “Old Town Square”, the “Jewish Quarter” with its narrow streets and synagogues and also the sunny promenade along the “Vltava River” with “Charles Bridge”, the “National Theatre” and the famous modern “Dancing House”. After this pleasant ride, you are taken to the “Czech Bridge”, where a private river cruise including lunch is all set up for you. Prague is stunning from the boat! The two-hour lunch cruise starts near the “Faculty of Law”, giving you the unique opportunity to see the “Prague Castle”, the gallery and concert hall of “Rudolphinum”, the famous “Charles Bridge”, the distinctive Baroque style “St. Nicholas Church”, the “National Theatre” with its roof made of gold and finally the “Vyšehrad”, the ancient castle fort on a rock cliff high above the river. After the river cruise, experience a private tour at the “Prague Castle” – the biggest castle in the world. The tour leads you to the marvellous and unique “State Rooms”. These rooms are usually used for the reception of official guests by the President of the Czech Republic and are not ordinarily open to visitors. In the late afternoon you are chauffeured back to the airport for your short onward flight to Vienna. After landing, you are welcomed by your guide and driver. First on the list is the “ZwölfApostelkeller” – a very typical Viennese venue for dinner – followed by a drive to your hotel – the “Hotel Sacher” – where you will check-in and be brought to your room.
DAY FOUR CAPTIVE CHARM OF VIENNA After a wholesome buffet breakfast, your guide awaits you in the hotel lobby at 9:30am. A walking tour through the historic centre via “Kärntner Straße”, “Stephansplatz” (St. Stephen’s Square) with its Viennese landmark – the “St. Stephen’s Cathedral” – along the “Graben” (literally “the trench”) via the “Kohlmarkt” – a shopping alley famous for jewellers and luxury labels – to the “Hofburg”, the former winter residence of the Hapsburgs. On your drive along the “Ringstraße”, many famous sights can be seen: the “Vienna State Opera”, the “Art Museum” as well as the “Museum of Natural History”, followed by the parliament, the “Burgtheater” (Court Theatre) and the “Votive Church” just opposite from town hall. And there is still enough time for a stroll through the “Stadtpark” (Viennese City Park) with the historic “Kursalon”. After a strengthening lunch at the restaurant “Plachutta Hietzing” at the gates of “Schönbrunn”, explore the palace including one suite of the “Berglzimmer” on a private tour. In the evening, a traditional horse carriage – the “Fiaker” – picks you up at the hotel and takes you to the restaurant “Do&Co” on “St. Stephen’s Square” where you will enjoy dinner with a beautiful view on the cathedral.
45
DAY FIVE ON THE FERRIS WHEEL HIGH ABOVE THE ROOFTOPS OF VIENNA After another hearty breakfast at the hotel, followed by check-out, your guide awaits you at 8:30am – a bit early but well worth it – to make it in time to the exclusive early opening of “Schloss Belvedere”. A one hour guided tour through the former residence of Prince Eugen lets you admire masterpieces such as “The Kiss” by Gustav Klimt. Following the tour, you are taken back to the city centre, where a private “Viennese waltz” dancing lesson at the renowned dancing school “Elmayer” is set up for you. The next true highlight is lunch which will be enjoyed at another Viennese landmark – the Ferris wheel at the “Prater”. In an exclusive luxury wagon, lunch will be served with unique views over the city. “Hawe d’Ehre!” It is time to say goodbye to Vienna. You are chauffeured to the airport where you will board your private jet to fly home in the late afternoon.

You are picked up at the airport and your chauffeur will take you to the centre of the city where your private guide will be waiting for you. His works exhibit his love for nature as well as his love for utter attention to detail of every element of his structures. You will visit the legacy of “La Pedrera” and “Casa Batló”. As the tour is private, you will avoid standing in any long queues with other tourists. The final part of your sightseeing tour through Barcelona will take you to “Parque Guell” – another shining example of Gaudi’s artistic excellence. All through the day your guide will keep you entertained with delightful interesting stories and anecdotes. In the late afternoon you are heading back to the airport for your onward flight to Rome. Your guide will be waiting for you at the airport in Rome. On your drive into Rome, experience what the city has to offer in the evening – a time of day, when the chaotic and noisy city traffic has dwindled down to be enveloped in the magical atmosphere of illuminated squares, fountains, renaissance, baroque palaces and its antiquities. You arrive at the “Via Margutta”, the very classy, upscale street in the centre of Rome. Many famous people including Picasso have lived here and the area was also the sight where the movie “Roman Holiday” was filmed. “Benvenuti at Osteria Margutta!” Enjoy dinner at this charming restaurant and get to taste the rich flavours of the Roman cuisine. After a lovely dinner you are chauffeured to your hotel, the “Portrait Suites”, where you will stay while in Rome.
DAY THREE ROME, ETERNAL CITY Explore the city like a real Roman! After breakfast, meet your guide accompanied by “Ape Calessinos” (tuk tuks). Your drivers and guide will lead you through the hidden corners of the city. Admire the beautiful “Spanish Steps”, “Trevi Fountain”, “Colosseum” (exterior), “Roman Forum” (exterior) as well as some less known sites which are definitely worth a visit, too. Take a break and sip a coffee or cappuccino during your tour. The tour ends in a very typical Roman “Trattoria” with a delicious lunch. At 2:30pm your private guide meets you at the Trattoria and takes you to the magnificent “Palazzo Colonna”, one of the oldest and largest private palaces of Rome, for an exclusive private visit of the “Galleria Colonna” as well as the apartment of Princess Isabelle. The construction of “Palazzo Colonna” started in the 14th century and was commissioned by the Colonna family, who still resides there after eight centuries. A real masterpiece, the “Galleria Colonna” with its 76 metres in length is nowadays considered an authentic jewel of the baroque Rome. It houses the art collection of the family with masterpieces from the 15th and 16th centuries – in particular from Pinturicchio, Guido Reni, Guarcino, Vanvitelli and many more. Continue with a visit to the apartment of Princess Isabelle which is still preserved in the exact same condition as it was when she was still alive
49
– the same warm atmosphere, the same attention to detail and care to keep the family photos where they were originally placed, next to the famous collection of “Thirty-seven views of Vanvitelli”. On this very detailed tour, explore what makes this property so special and find out who Princess Isabelle really was. Next on the list is a visit to the oldest Italian shoemaker boutique: “Marini”, originally founded in 1899 as a shoemakers school and then transformed into a boutique and laboratory in the heart of Rome. The brand soon became highly desired by top-level international personalities, sovereigns, actors, politicians, and businessmen. Luigi Einaudi, former President of the Italian Republic, honoured the Marini brand by appointing Giuseppe Marini as “Knight of the Order for the Italian Republic”. The Marini bespoke experience starts with the client’s feet measurements, performed by specialized artisans. The client is then provided with professional support in deciding the features of the shoe: the model, the leather, the sole and every detail, in order to make the shoe a unique piece. Starting from the wooden last made on the client’s measures, the shoe is then created following the ancient method of Italian “ars sutoria” – a process that lasts over 40 hours and that is set up of more than 220 steps entirely hand made by master shoemakers. Once finalised and checked, the shoe is delivered to the client whereas the wooden last will al-
low to satisfy every new order without needing to repeat the measurement phase. Next up, an exclusive visit to the “Vatican Museums” will take your breath away. Your guide is taking you through the wonderful galleries rich of statues, mosaics, paintings and tapestries. Nowadays, the “Vatican Museums” host the most impressive art collection in the world and having the chance to see all the museums and the “Sistine Chapel” privately at your disposal is a memorable experience! At the end of the visit your driver takes you to the restaurant “Filippo La Mantia” in the Majestic Hotel, on Via Veneto. The chef, Filippo La Mantia, will greet you and will offer table-side descriptions of his dishes. His philosophy is to create an atmosphere of home, comfort, service and food. He thinks food is a way to travel by sitting in a comfortable chair and enjoying the stories the food tells you. His approach encompasses simple and traditional but with original inner strength for a unique experience. The luscious dinner finishes with the signature dish: the chef will take you to his Patisserie and, according to your tastes, he will create a dessert only for you.
DAY FOUR VENICE‘S MORBID BEAUTY Enjoy breakfast before being transferred to the airport for your flight to Venice. Meet your guide at the private jet area of Venice Marco Polo airport. You are then chauffeured to the “Hotel Europa and Regina” – located on the “Grand Canal” only 5 minutes walking distance from “St. Mark’s Square” – by a deluxe water taxi. After a 30 minute boat ride, you reach the hotel and check-in to a deluxe double room. Enjoy lunch with a three-course meal at the hotel restaurant overlooking the “Grand Canal”. After your meal, your guide will pick you up in the hotel lobby for a highlights tour of Venice including a visit at a mask workshop where you can experience this typical Venetian craft first-hand. You will have the opportunity to make your own mask and keep it as a souvenir. The art of making masks is one of the most ancient handcrafts in town. Relax at the hotel for about an hour after your introductory tour to Venice before your guide picks you up for a private visit of the “St. Mark’s Basilica”. It is a breathtaking and unique experience! This special occasion will permit you to discover the treasures of the basilica outside normal opening hours and of course without
50
other tourists. The basilica – dark, mysterious and enriched with the spoils of conquest – is a unique blend of eastern and western influences. This oriental extravaganza, embellished over a period of six centuries with sparkling gold mosaics, marble and carvings, made a fitting location for the ceremonies of the “Serene Republic”. It was here that the doge was presented to the city following his election; it was here that heads of state, popes, princes and ambassadors were received, and where sea captains came to pray for protection before embarking on epic voyages. Your guide will give you detailed explanations about the exterior as well as the interior. When you enter the basilica, all the lights will be switched off. During the tour, the lights will be switched back on little by little to discover all the handmade gold mosaics of the cathedral one by one. You will then have the opportunity to visit the famous “Pala d’Oro” and the “Crypt”. To top off this unique experience you are taken to a nearby restaurant for a typical Venetian dinner. A walk back to the hotel on your own completes a very Venetian day.
DAY FIVE ABOARD A GONDOLA ON THE CANALS Indulge in a wholesome breakfast overlooking the “Grand Canal” before your guide takes you on a 35 minute gondola ride followed by a walking tour through Venice to see the most beautiful and historical monuments such as the “Doge’s Palace” and the “Rialto Market”. Time to eat: a tasty Venetian lunch will be served in a cosy little restaurant near the hotel. After lunch, your guide takes you back to Venice Marco Polo airport in a luxury private water taxi. “Ciao bella Italia!” You are heading back to Zurich in your private jet.
