Project Description: Include 175 words for one page of published material, plus additional words for multi-page layouts (i.e. 300 total words if you’ve selected a 2-page layout - see Call For Entries for page layout word counts). This should include the educational program requirements, the architect’s response, special or unusual problems, technical information on construction, materials and mechanical systems. Attach additional pages or type on a separate page if necessary. (MUST BE TYPED) Sherley Residence Hall reopened in August 2009 after a complete renovation. The “new” Sherley has many exciting features and is the first LEED certified residence hall at TCU, earning the LEED Silver Certification. Sherley is a freshman coed housing facility featuring 162 units/314 beds with wireless and hard-wired technology for each unit and all public spaces.

Reusing the building instead of demolishing the existing structure and constructing a new facility was a primary goal of the design. The interiors of the building were completely gutted to the structure (columns, slabs and perimeter walls), to make way for new mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. New common spaces are provided in key locations to facilitate social interaction and study. The basement renovation features a theater room, kitchen, common laundry room and gaming gallery. Accent colors provide an identity to each floor to help give the new students a sense of home away from home.

The building is energy efficient and exceeds the baseline performance rating for energy performance by 21% above the ASRAE standard.
