CHRIS HILL

LewAllen Galleries is delighted to present this showcase of sculptural works by Chris Hill. Ranging from small works on pedestals to monumental wall sculptures that are well-suited for both interiors and exteriors, Hill’s modernist-inflected sculptures inhabit an exciting, new terrain. Actively blurring the lines between painting and sculpture, Hill doesn’t restrict himself to a single medium. Hill maintains two studios used in creating his sculptures – one for welding and one for painting. In his innovative process, he begins by fabricating steel and with the addition of acrylic paint, he imparts color, mood, and texture to his forms. His complex and compelling work may appear two-dimensional at first, but springs forth into three-dimensions as the viewer moves around the object in space. Fluidly weaving emergent shapes, variegated lines, vibrant gradients, and dramatic shadows, Hill’s transcendent sculptures are in an extraordinary class of their own. For the past three decades, Chris Hill has been distinguished as a fine art sculptor and designer. Originally from Mississippi, Hill moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he studied, and later taught, at the American Academy of Art. He lives and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Hill’s sculptures have been exhibited at SOFA Chicago, SOFA New York, Art Miami, and the LA Art Show, among others. His work is held in public and private collections.
