Are you thinking about getting a tattoo? The most important decisions you need to make, besides where to put it and what design you'd like, is WHO you will have do it. You want to be very particular when choosing an artist. Everyone you talk to with a "bad" tattoo will tell you the same thing......Do Your Research. There are three things you should look for when shopping for a tattoo. I like to call it the 3 P method. Professionalism, Preciseness, Portfolio. When you walk into a tattoo studio you should expect the same professionalism you would get walking into a Dr's office or any other professional building. Expect to be treated courteously and with respect. The studio should be clean and have adequate lighting. You should feel comfortable with the environment and feel at ease when asking questions. You should never feel rushed into making a decision. Ask how long the tattoo will take, and how many sessions it may require. Your artist should have a reputation for preciseness. In many cases the small details are what sets your tattoo apart from others. Your artist should be able to scale your art to fit accordingly to where it's placed. Don't be afraid to ask for advise. Ask if the artist prefers working with colors or if they specialize in any certain style. Most importantly, look at your artist's portfolio. Most artists are proud of their work and display it openly. If you already have a design you should check to see if they have done anything similar. Ask how your design can be "modified" to your unique style and ask what work is their original design. If that alone is not enough, ask for referrals. Anybody with a great tattoo will proudly make a recommendation. Do your research and you will have no regrets. Remember that a tatoo is a display of art and you are the canvass. It could be the best experience of your life. But, I have to warn you......once you find the right artist....you may become addicted. I am!
