Plans to restore the muchloved Ladywell Playtower are back on track, following delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The restoration project will deliver a new four-screen cinema – the Ladywell Cinema – with a restaurant and bar. The Grade II listed Playtower originally opened in 1884 as a swimming pool and public hall, before closing to the public in 2004. Over the last few years, the Council has been developing plans to bring the building back into public use and safeguard its future.

Borough of Culture legacy. All staff will be paid the London Living Wage and the night-time offer will provide a welcome boost to local businesses. Subject to planning permission, work will begin next year, with the cinema due to open to the public in 2024.
