Green scene

One in four Lewisham residents rent privately – that’s why we’re working to improve conditions for private renters. As part of this work, we’re consulting on a new landlord licensing scheme for private rented properties in certain parts of the borough. This will help tackle poor housing conditions, overcrowding and rogue landlords. We want as many people as possible to take part in the consultation – go to lewisham. gov.uk/LandlordLicensing to have your say.

On top of this, we’re introducing an additional licensing scheme for Houses of Multiple Occupancy (HMOs). The new scheme will require all eligible HMOs to meet set standards for room sizes and health and safety, ensuring better conditions and quality of life for tenants. The new scheme will come into effect on Tuesday 5 April 2022.
