Downham school children plant new fruit orchard
auditorium, foyers, bar areas and toilets are all being given a contemporary overhaul to meet 21st century needs. The theatre is set to play a crucial role in the regeneration of Catford town centre.
Cllr Patrick Codd, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, was joined by an enthusiastic Year 6 class from Good Shepherd RC School to help with the digging and planting of a new orchard of 27 fruit trees in Durham Hill park in Downham. The children enjoyed a lesson from a local expert about orchards and fruit trees and all the climate benefits that come with them. This orchard is part of our Treescapes project and as a result of this funding, 195 more trees are being planted in five Lewisham parks this year:
