BEYOND THE PAGES: THE EDITOR'S LETTER
Since its initial creation late 2012-early 2013, Beyond Man, Northern Ireland' s first and only men' s fashion publication, has gone from strength to strength. From our very first photoshoot featuring the works of local highend designer David Henderson, the standard of cool, cutting-edge and contemporary catapulated us into twelve months of on-going, ever-evolving proj ects and editorials with some of Northern Ireland' s most inventive and adventurous creatives. Utilising innovation and experimentation through bleached and tie-dyed menswear basics j uxtaposed alongside new-age postapocalyptic punk vibes through studding and layered leather patchwork, David Henderson' s designs set the foundation for an explosive j ourney into monumental change in the world of male fashion and more importantly, male fashion in Northern Ireland. Something genuinely unheard of as a new generation emerges and presents their talents for a relatively unknown and ambigious audience. Silversmither Duncan Chambers, knitwear designer Sean Henry and independent labelmaker Roseanna McReynold' s and her phenomenal exoskeletal collection followed swiftly featuring catwalk infused garments full of avant gardian promise, psychedelic print on print and a whole bunch of translucent mesh. Themes of adrogyny, power, war, art and luxury flow throughout Beyond Man' s later editorials from the boyish urban life of HOMME BOY, to the aggressively unleashed NEW BEAST, from the mind of immensely talented fashion stylist Jamie Russell, all the way to the opulent productions of the empowering PUNK COUTURE and the maj estically haunting ADAM. The latter being the final shoot of 2013, teaming up with Dublin male model Adam Gaffey, emerging fashion photographer Mitchell Cahoon and local interior design hotspot Atelier-Design to manufacture a closing editorial fit for a king. A floral necklace wearing, metallic beanie hat frolicking, gold belt clad king. Vibrant and energetic editorials, two consecutive seasons of attending London Collections: Men, up and coming male models, trend-setting local designers, fashion stylists, videographers and fashion photographers. Twelve months of dedication, hard work, enthusiasm, innovation and the consuming passion for the ever-dominating and ever-flourishing world of menswear and men' s fashion. All from Belfast & Beyond.
