ARTIST’S ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR READING & UNDERSTANDING ALL GUIDELINES & MUST MEET ALL CRITERIA TO BE ENTERED

ENTRY DATE FOR NON-SCHOOL and/or NON GROUP RELATED EXHIBITS: Tuesday, September 21st from Noon until 8 p.m. Judging will be Wednesday starting at 8 a.m. until finished. The Fairgrounds will open at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 23rd to the public. (See Schools & Classrooms Below for Entry & Pickup Days & Times) GENERAL RULES FOR THIS DEPARTMENT • Eligibility: All entries MUST be the work of the exhibitor and created during or after Sept., 2019 and not entered in previous Nez Perce

County Fairs. Art needs to be original work without an instructor, not classroom copied. (Exception: School Projects, Class # 16) Art work of only high quality, in good taste and suitable for family viewing will be accepted. A “Professional” refers to anyone who derives or has derived the major source of their income from selling goods or services, or teaching a skill closely related to the subject matter of any class in this department and should enter in “Professional”. Professional entries are not judged. Exhibit only. • Entries: (New) Exhibitor may enter one (1) entry per Class, but only twelve (12) entries total in department. Exhibitors are responsible for identifying which class to be entered in. • Identification: Entry tags MUST be complete and legible or they will be discarded and any premium due forfeited.

Exhibit name needs to identify Art subject. Use address labels or order labels from the fair office PRIOR to entry day.

Entry MUST also have exhibitors name, address & phone number on back. Exhibit name needs to identify art subject.

Size and framing of entries: Maximum Size: 20” x 24” excluding frame. Anything larger WILL NOT be accepted due to limited space. Paintings must be dry, framed and substantially wired. (No taped, string or sawtooth hangers will be accepted) Flat art pieces that do not require a frame, but need to be hung for display, must be matted (professional matting is NOT necessary) and have a substantial hanging device that will support the weight of the piece. NO GLASS IS ALLOWED!!

Canvas paintings must have edges painted or framed. • All possible care is taken, but no responsibility for loss or damage will be assumed by Nez Perce County Fair Board. • Large exhibits that could cause injury will not be accepted.

CLASSROOM PROJECTS (NOT IN-HOME SCHOOL PROJECTS)

PRE-SCHOOL THRU 3RD GRADE - CLASSROOM LEVEL - CLASS #18

• ENTER Monday, September 20th, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. (Preferred) or Tuesday, September 21st / 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

SIZE: (NEW) Secure Projects on one (1) - 3’ x 7’ wall hanging, portrait or landscape, no larger, no smaller. Only one (1) wall hanging per classroom accepted. • IDENTIFY: Write Grade Level, School & Teacher on a page placed in the center of wall hanging.

Have students write their first name only on the front of their artwork so family & friends can identify. • ENTRY: One (1) entry tag should be completed per project with; Teachers Name, Grade, Name of School, & School’s Phone Number. TEACHERS:

Staple entry tag at the bottom center of wall hanging. • Happy Day Cards: Fill out envelope at fair office for Happy Day Gift Cards. They are offered on a first come - first serve basis to Pre-3rd grade classroom project’s only.

4TH THRU 6TH GRADE INDIVIDUAL CLASSROOM PROJECTS

In an effort to make entries from classrooms & other groups easier to enter and pick up we ask you to carefully read the entry & pickup procedures below. • ENTER: Monday, September 20th, 8 am. – 5 pm. (Preferred) or Tuesday, September 21st , 8 am - 8pm. • PREPARE: Staple, tape or glue art work on construction or poster paper with 1” or less boarder. “Entry Tag” needs to be stabled at bottom in center of project.

ENTRY: One (1) entry per student. Students should create their own picture, not classroom copied. Each entry will be judged according to a standard and awarded premium ribbons according to how the entry met those standards.

Prior to “Entry Day” – Contact fair office (Monday thru Friday 8am. to 5pm.) to request an Individual Student Project List Form. We can e-mail, fax or mail to you. Complete the top with Last name of Teacher & School Phone Number. LIST each student’s last and first name on the form - Send completed form back to fair office. Labels made at school are coming off. Have fair office make your labels for each student’s entry. Bring exhibits in to fair office and we will have tags ready for you to attach to artwork & enter.

WHAT JUDGES LOOK FOR WITH ART

•GENERAL APPEARANCE: Neat, clean, finishing techniques suitable to subject & medium. Catches the eye. •TECHNICAL: Techniques correct & consistent, composition balance. Leads the eye into the picture. •CREATIVITY & SUITABILITY: Originality or presentation of subject, choice of color combinations, medium & techniques suitable to subject. •WORKMANSHIP: Mounted neatly, clean and in accordance with department guidelines.

AWARDS

•RIBBONS: 1ST Blue - $3 • 2ND Red -$2 • 3RD White - $1 STICKER AWARDS: Receive silk ribbon when premium is paid, if desired. •SPECIAL ROSETTE RIBBONS:

BEST OF SHOW – Awarded by judges. Adult & Junior (9-18 years)

BEST OF CLASS - Awarded at judges’ discretion.

CREATIVITY - Awarded at judges’ discretion.

SWEEPSTAKES - Adult & Junior (9-18 yrs). Exhibitor must have earned three (3) Blue ribbons to qualify for sweepstakes. Exhibitor receiving the most BLUE Ribbons. RED counted for tie breaker.

SUPERINTENDENT’S CHOICE: In each. Awarded at Superintendents discretion.
