Big Valley to come alive with annual open houses
For many in our area, their Black Friday tradition doesn’t involve soulless shopping malls or box stores. Instead, their shopping tradition starts and ends in the Big Valley. Just in time for the holiday hustle and bustle, many Big Valley businesses are getting the season kicked off this weekend for the annual BigValley open house promotion. Residents and visitors alike will have the opportunity to travel up and down the beautiful Big Valley this Friday and Saturday, November 26 and 27, as businesses, both large and small, open their doors, offering Christmas gift ideas in all shapes and sizes, as well as door prizes and other holiday giveaways. Refer to the helpful map on pages 2-3 of this edition for a business finder key. A good resource to find out more about Big Valley businesses is the website, visitbigvalley.com, as well as their Facebook page. More than ever, supporting our local small retailers is vital. With supply chain and shipping
issues, the perfect place to buy unique holiday gifts and food is right here in the Big Valley. If you can’t make it out to the valley on Friday, why not stop on Small Business Saturday? The Saturday after Black Friday was coined “Small Business Saturday” beginning in 2010. In 2011, the Senate unanimously passed a resolution in support of the day, and officials in all 50 states participated. Every time you shop small in our area, you’re spending makes a difference to a small business owner and their employees. So why not look through this edition and find the businesses you’d like to support. Perhaps a gift certificate or card would be the perfect way to shop local and give a great gift to someone of your list who wants to support our Mifflin County economy. The BigValley boasts some of the best shopping, dining and recreation from the “Tight End” area in Huntingdon County, all the way to Siglerville in Mifflin County.
