Unlock Their Potential:

Early Hearing Tests Matter

For many Central Pennsylvania residents, fair season in our region is their favorite time of the year. This year marks the 150th year of one of the grandest of all Pennsylvania fairs - the Centre County Grange Fair in Centre Hall. Before kids go back to school and leaves start to turn, the Grange Fair is there to remind us that summer isn’t quite over just yet.

Kids (and kids-atheart) love fair food, pulse-pounding and spinning rides, exhibits and lots of cute farm animals. But the Grange Fair isn’t sim-

ply another county fair. True, the Centre County Grange Fair offers all those memorable experiences, but it also bills itself as the nation’s “most unique county fair.” What makes the Grange Fair so special?

First of all, the longevity to provide 150 years of fair tradition. For many families in Central Pennsylvania, including those in Clinton, Lycoming, Mifflin and Juniata Counties, the Grange Fair is an annual tradition they just can’t miss. Generations have camped, attended and enjoyed the Grange Fair.

The Grange Encampment and Fair: 150 years of fair tradition

For those who attend for the first time, just a walk onto the fairgrounds is an awe-inspiring sight. According to the fair’s website, there are over 1,000 tent sites at the encampment fair, as well as over 1,500 recreational vehicles that campers reside in during fair week. The Grange is the last remaining encampment event in the United States! The camping tradition, coupled with the large amount of attractions, concessions and exhibits separate the Grange Fair from other events. Fair organizers estimate over

200,000 people attend on average each year, and that over 10,000 residents camp on the fairgrounds in Centre Hall.

As usual, there are some well-known musical artists that will be performing at the fair this year. It wouldn’t be a Grange Fair without a heavy dose of country music, and this year feature’s some very well-known Country artists featured on the grandstand.

This year, 90’s country radio staples Jo Dee Messina and Aaron Tippin will perform

their hits at the fair grandstand. Messina will be on stage opening night, Friday, Aug. 16, singing her hits like “Heads Carolina, Tails California” and “Bye Bye.” Tippin will play Monday, Aug. 19 and fans will likely hope to hear his 1991 smash hit “You’ve Got to Stand For Something.”

Fans of new country can catch artists Drew Green, Alex Miller and Jet Jurgensmeyer during fair week. Christian country musician Anne Wilson will grace the stage on Saturday, Aug. 17.

Award-winning care

For those who like 60’s rock and pop, Beach Boys tribute band Surf’s Up will play the fair on Wednesday, Aug. 21. The VanDells, a 50’s and 60’s rock tribute act, will fill out the grandstand slate with their set on Thursday, Aug, 22.

The fair admission price includes all the grandstand shows, making it a family-friendly entertainment value. A full schedule of events can be found inside this edition. More information can be obtained at www.grangefair.com.
