Pandemic Response
The Mount Nittany Health team responded to the pandemic with ingenuity and courage. They were quickly able to pivot resources to deliver testing, treatments, and the vaccine in response to the COVID-19 pandemic while continuing to develop innovative ways to treat patients safely and effectively.
This included: · 2,000+ COVID patient hospitalizations · 80,000+ COVID tests administered · 50,000+ vaccine doses administered
Extraordinary Nurse Recognized
Charles “Charlie” Goe, RN, in the Behavioral Health Unit, was recently honored with the DAISY award for Extraordinary Nurses. This award was for his compassionate care of a critically ill patient who was admitted through the Emergency Department in respiratory failure. During the three weeks the patient was at Mount Nittany Medical Center, he spent time on the second floor, then ICU, then CCU, and finally the third floor where he was placed on comfort care. The patient’s daughter wrote, “Overall, the nurses, staff and doctors along his medical journey were great; however, there was one nurse that was exceptional - Charles (Charlie) Goe. He provided my Dad with such compassion, gentleness, dignity and respect when my Dad was most vulnerable; and I will never forget that. My family and I firmly believe Charlie was specifically placed with my Dad to assist him into a peaceful passing. Charlie answered all questions and concerns, helping me and my family process what was happening. It was Charlie who made an impactful difference in my Dad’s care and to me and my family.”
Growth and Importance in the Region
Mount Nittany Health is continuing to expand its primary care and specialty practices, with the addition of eight new providers this year, and more to come. The Boalsburg Pediatrics practice has also added a new pediatric psychologist, which brings a new service to the area.
Originally established as a community hospital, Mount Nittany Health has grown exponentially to add the care for the community’s needs, where they need it.
