Mary Aitkins, formerly of Lewistown, passed on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021, at The Crossing of Clarity Hospice, of Baton Rouge, La. Born September 1949, in Port Barre, La., she is the daughter of the late Marie and Barney Lee. Mary is survived by her loving husband Clark Ed Aitkins, whom she married September 1988. Harry G. Aurand
Harry G. Aurand, 88, of Reedsville, passed away Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021, at William Penn Health-
care, Lewistown. Born May 31, 1933, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Harry G. Aurand Sr. and Ruth L. (Shively) Aurand. His wife, Donna M. (Smith) Aurand, whom he married Nov. 13, 1955, survives. Also surviving are: a daughter, Pamela J. Johnson of Lewistown; two granddaughters, Samantha Smith and Jacey Metzgar; four great-grandchildren, Skylar Montz, Brooklyn Montz, Braylon Montz and Malek Smith. He was preceded in death by a son, Paul ‘Pidge’ Aurand, on April 13, 2018, and a brother, Robert Aurand. Harry was the owner of Fence Row Crafts, Yeager-
sons, Steven Dutro and wife Melissa, of Gonzales, La., and Elliot Hoggus, of Livingston, La. Mary spent 33 years as a dedicated military wife. A funeral service was Sept. 4, 2021, at Revival Temple Church, 28521 Walker S. Road, Walker, La. with Pastor Wes Courtney and Pastor Tyrone Gray to officiate. May 15, 1931 in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Edward M. Snook, Sr. and Hazel M. (Heimbaugh) Snook. Her husband, Russell E. Aumiller whom she married Dec. 9, 1950, preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 1970. Surviving is: a sister, Kaye Stipcich of Eastpoint, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Ann Scofield; and three brothers, Otis A. Snook, Lee Marvin Snook, Edward M. Snook Jr. She had worked at the American Viscose Co., Lewistown, and also the Lew-
istown Hospital. Shirley was a member of the Church of God, Lewistown. Paul S. Bishop, 82, of Lewistown, passed away Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, at his home. Born Oct. 9, 1938, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Blanche Edna Marie (Bishop) Corbin. Barry L. Bubb, 69, of Port Royal, passed away Sunday, Sept. 26, 2021, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, with his family by his side. Born Aug. 6, 1952, in Harrisburg, he is a son of Eddis M. (Barnhart) Bubb of Gratz and the late Boyd
children, Bonnie, Josie and Dahli Christine; and siblings, Jane Middaugh, of Milroy, Becky Kauffman, of Belleville, Robert Corbin, of Lewistown; and Connie’s foster brother-inlaw, David Baumgardner, of Lewistown. Paul was a United States Army veteran. He was a member of Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Lewistown. He was an elder of the church, head usher, a youth leader and Sunday school teacher. Paul enjoyed woodworking and going hunting and was an avid Phillies fan. In his earlier years, Paul was employed at Fisher/ Sanyo Electronics in Milroy. Services were Tuesday, Sept. 7 at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes Woodlawn and Wednesday, Sept. 8 at Lewistown Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 50 Hudson Ave., Lewistown. Betty M. Bratton, 92, of Lewistown, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021, at her home. Born March 4, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Franklin Kline and Margaret E. (Emerick) Miller. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Bryson C. “Beanie” Bratton Sr.; her son, Harvery L. Bratton; granddaughter, Tracy Bratton and half-brothers, Ira T., Richard R., Paul E., Bruce E., Glenn D., Laurent E. and Ulysses W. Miller. Betty is survived by her children, Bryson Bratton Jr., of Lewistown, Linda Tatum and husband James, of Port Royal, and Theresa Bottorf, of Lewistown; seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and
20 great-great-grandchildren. Earlier in life, she was employed at The Arrow Shirt Factory for many years until her retirement. After retirement, she was employed at Angelo’s Italian Restaurant in Lewistown making salads. Betty attended Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a life member of the Brooklyn Fire Co. Women’s Auxiliary and a woman of many passions including camping, baking and sewing. Most of all, Betty loved being around her loving family, it meant the most to her. A funeral service in loving memory of Betty was held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 428 S. Cathy A. Brewer, 75, of McAlisterville, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021, at the Geisinger- Lewistown Hospital. Born on Jan. 31, 1946, in Altoona, she was a daughter of the late George Mosel and Alma (Imler) Mosel Shultz. On July 5, 2007, she married Earl L. Brewer, with whom she was blessed to share over 13 years of marriage before his passing on Nov. 5, 2020. She is survived by her children, Jeffery Shambaugh and his wife Ann, of Thompsontown, Jennifer Winey and her husband Roger, and Wally Shambaugh and his wife Corri, all of Mifflintown; siblings, George Mosel and his wife Mary, of Harrisburg, Connie Dengler and her husband Jim, of Hummelstown, Mike Mosel and his wife Peggy, of Midlothian, Va., and Tim Mosel and his wife Connie, of Altoona; and four grandchildren, Callan Michele Shambaugh, Kyle Ed-

She was a 1963 graduate of Altoona High School and was employed as a waitress at several local restaurants including Zimmie’s Diner, Stop 35, the Coffee Cup and the Family House Restaurant. Cathy was a member of First Baptist Church, Mifflintown, where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She was a people person who loved to help and be a caregiver wherever she could. She participated as a Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader, was recognized for her involvement in the Heart Drive for the American Heart Association, and enjoyed going to church, cooking and creating crafts. Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021, at the First Baptist Church of Juniata County, 23964 Route 35 North, Mifflintown, with Pastor Ronald Shupe officiating. infant son; one half-brother, Frank Bubb; and one half-sister, Doro- thy Eckley. Barry graduated from the former Kishacoquillas High School in 1970, and was a supervisor at Empire Kosher for 50 years, retiring in 2020. He enjoyed fishing, watching NASCAR and football.
He formerly coached the Mexico girls softball team. He loved animals, especially cats. His service was Friday, Oct. 1, at Guss Funeral Home Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown. Interment will be held in New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.

Frances K. “Frannie” Burd, 79, of Academia, passed away Monday, Sept. 6, 2021, at Brookline Manor. She was born Feb. 1, 1942. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Carl W. Burd, whom she married Feb. 27, 1959; one son, James “Jim” Burd; one daughter, Diane Raish and husband, Fred; three grandchildren, Adam Raish and wife, Victoria, Alison Andrus and husband, Paul, Aaron Raish; and eight great-grandchildren Emma, Ella, Elsa, Elka, and Etta Raish, Riley Andrus, and Matthew and Mia Raish. She was preceded in death by her parents, Karl and Alice (Swartz) Kepner and one brother, Donn Kepner. Frannie was a nurse’s aide at Brookline Manor and then provided care for people in their own homes. She was a member of Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church. Her funeral was Friday, Sept. 10, at Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church, with Rev. Ken Hepner officiating. Interment was in Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal. F. Richard ‘Dick’ Burd
F. Richard “Dick” Burd, 90, of Academia, passed away at 12:28 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021, at the Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown, due to COVID-19 complications.
Born on July 31, 1931, in Lewistown, he is a son of the late Frank L. and Mary (Fisher) Burd. On July 23, 1954, in Academia, he married his surviving wife, Louise “Lou” (Dolin) Burd with whom he was blessed to share over 67 years of marriage before his passing. In addition to his wife, he was the proud father of three remarkable children, Karen and her husband Pat Henry, of Academia, Cindy and her husband David Gates, of Smartsville, Calif., and the late James Richard “Jim” Burd. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Charlotte Fettig Burd, of Port Royal; two grandchildren, Christina (Henry) Martin and her husband Kyle and John P.
Henry IV and his wife Karly; and he leaves behind five great-grandchildren, Julia L. Martin, Page K. Martin, Dayden J. Henry, Dawson P. Henry and Deekan C. Henry. In addition to his parents and son, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert E. Burd. He was a 1949 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown, and his memberships included the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, Academia, Academia Cemetery Association, Union Lodge No. 324 F&AM, Mifflintown, Tall Cedars, Juniata Forest No. 88, Harrisburg Consistory, A.A.S.R., and the NRA. Professionally, he was a finished carpenter with over
25 years of service to the Keystone District Council, United Brotherhood of Carpenters. Through his gift of woodworking, he made beautiful furniture from which all of his family benefited, not to mention the many birds who nested in his bird houses. In a seemingly endless endeavor, with the help of his wife, he remodeled their home of 61 years. In earlier life, he was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper. He was also an avid gardener and a master grower of sweet potatoes. His harvest of sweet potatoes supplied many church suppers with the orange treats. Through his artistry of creating bird houses, he
enjoyed watching and feeding the birds that he provided shelter. A public graveside service was Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, at the Academia Cemetery with the Vicar Samuel J. Leister officiating. David W. Burdge
V. Burdge and his wife Angela, Michelle A. Phillips and her husband Tommy III, and Bobbi J. Hostetter and her husband Gary, all of Mifflin; one sister, Shirley Rice of Ickesburg; five grandchildren, Harlee Burdge, Maggie Burdge, Wyatt Burdge, Lindsey Beaston, and Trent Phillips; and one greatgranddaughter, Emma Burdge. David proudly and honorably served our country during the Vietnam War where he obtained the rank of sergeant and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Bronze Star Medal.
Mr. Burdge was involved in many different phases and positions in pipeline construction where he was a member of the Teamsters Union and the Laborers Local No. 158 and retired in 2014 from Precision Pipeline and Construction of Eau Clair, Wis. He also was a co-owner of Burdge Repair LLC, Mifflin, along with his son. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 298, Mifflintown, and enjoyed hunting, all forms of racing, flea markets and tinkering with different pieces of equipment; however, he cherished the time spent with his family and friends.

Donald C. ‘Mope’ Casner
Donald C. “Mope” Casner, 85 of Mifflintown, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021 at his home. Donald was born on March 6, 1936 in Bergenfield, New Jersey to Jamie and Edith (Walker) Casner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Kerry Dea Casner and a brother Kenneth R. Casner. He is survived by his wife, Jocelyn “Josie” (Crozier) Casner whom he married on June 21, 1958 and enjoyed 63 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Tobi Kane and husband, Michael, grandsons William “Bill” Gilson and wife, Bonita, Ryan Casner, Michael Casner and Stephen Casner, great-granddaughters Lexie and Lindsea Gilson, brother James R. Casner and wife, Helen, and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Don graduated from Juniata Joint High School
in 1954. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. He attended The University Center of PA in Harrisburg for Civil Engineering and obtained his professional Engineering License in 1975. He retired from the PA Department of Transportation as a civil engineer. After retirement, he worked for the Corrugated Steel Pipe Association. He served on the Mifflintown Municipal Water Authority Board and he was the Mifflin Borough’s engineer and building permit officer. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Capital City Polka Dancers. He was a member of The Mifflintown Lions Club and served as President between 1998-1999 and was a coach for the Mifflin Pee Wees football team. Don loved technology and hand-built computers for each of his four grandsons. He enjoyed square dancing, traveling and many social events with his wife and friends, attending coffee club at Stop 35 and golfing with his buddies. He loved attending his great granddaughters sporting events, singing and dancing performances. He will be remembered for teaching polka classes with his wife and numerous appearances on Pennsylvania Polka, WVIA TV Scranton/Wilkes Barre. Per his request, services were private and held at the convenience of the family. Daris Elizabeth (Shelley) Ciecierski
Daris Elizabeth (Shelley) Ciecierski, 29, of McAlisterville, died on the morning of Sept. 25, 2021, at Lehigh Valley Health Network Regional Burn Center from grievous injuries sustained when her home was destroyed by a fire on the night of May 2. She found a profound peace after a long and brutal fight with her injuries. She breathed her last while surrounded by people who love her immensely. Daris was born in Harrisburg on Nov. 24, 1991, to parents James W. Shelley, of Thompsontown, and Annette L. Shelley, of Enola. After graduating from East Juniata High School in 2010, she attended Bloomsburg University, where she graduated in 2014 with a bachelor of science in psychology and a bachelor of the arts in social work. In order to satiate the requirements of a scholarship, she began working as a caseworker at Huntingdon County Children and Youth. After a few months, she relocated to Mifflin County Children and Youth where she worked until the time of her death. After several years as a caseworker (levels I through III), she was promoted to the position of unit
supervisor. She was loved and respected by many of her co-workers and clients, whom she often called friends. In 2004 she met her husband, Andrew Ciecierski, of McAlisterville. After dating throughout high school and college, they were wed on Sept. 26, 2015, and enjoyed nearly six years of fortunate joy before her death. On Feb. 8, 2020, Daris gave birth to her only child, Juniper Ruth Ciecierski. June was the first and only thing that ever made Daris question her commitment to her line of work. Daris is survived by her husband, her daughter and both of her parents. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law Jenna and Cody Brininger, of Laurelton, and their children Aiden and Everly. Daris is predeceased by two siblings,
Ryan and Rachel. Daris was a firebrand of kindness and service, and in all things she was patient, poised and loving. Ever the bleeding heart, Daris did not know of a human struggle that she did not empathize with and feel strongly about. While belief and ethics were incredibly important to Daris, more than anything she felt it was imperative for good people to act on their convictions if there was any hope of tides turning for the better. She was resolute, resilient, graceful and incorruptible in every sense. She loved music of nearly all kinds, vegetable and flower gardening, hiking and camping in the woods, playing outside with her beloved dogs Byron and Morty and spending time with her cherished friends and family, most especially Juniper.
Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021, at the Good News Lutheran Brethren Church, 32868 Route 35 North, McAlisterville, with Pastor Graham C. Fowler officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in McAlisterville. Paul M. Couch, 91, of Elmcroft of Reedsville, and formerly of McAlevy’s Fort, passed away at 5:32 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021 at Elmcroft. Born Sept. 8, 1930 in McAlevy’s Fort, he was a son of the late John M. and Lucy Imogene (McCall) Couch. On Oct. 6, 1949, he was united in marriage to Eleanor G. (Cunningham) Couch. She passed away on May 14, 2010. He was later united in marriage to Lela Couch, who also preceded him in death. Surviving are: his children, Diana M. Card of Dillsburg; Duane M. Couch and wife Renee

Penn Hills High School, Pittsburgh, and attended college for two years. Rick was a Vietnam Veteran; he served in the Army from 1969 to 1972. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad in 2010 after 37 years of service. Rick was a member of the Lewistown Moose Lodge No. 143, Milroy American Legion, Elks Lodge, in Wilkinsburg, Yeagertown Fire Co. and the Union County Sportsman’s Club. Rick was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, best friend, and dear friend to many. Rick was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and it wasn’t unusual to hear him yelling at the TV while watching football games. “Football games were made to watch and not talk,” he would always say. He devoted most of his time to his grandkids;
he loved and enjoyed every moment with them. He relaxed most while having one hand on the mowing tractor and a cold Budweiser in the other. Rick had his own style to everything which included a vast variety of his favorite Hawaiian shirts and Steelers shorts. Rick was always offering great advice, amazing stories and always ready to offer a helping hand to anyone in need. Rick will be missed for his great stories, laughing giggles, great hugs and Eskimo kisses. Hootie Hoo until we meet again. No services will be held. Gary Lee Dean Sr., 57, of Shamokin Dam, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born Aug. 28, 1964, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late George W. Dean, and Isla Mary (Zakutney) Dean, of Lewistown, who survives. In addition to his mother, Gary is survived by: his wife,
Joyce (Tate) Dean, whom he married Aug. 15, 2009; son, Gary Lee Dean Jr., of Lewistown; stepson, Ryan Tate, of Yeagertown; and his brother, Randy Dean and wife, Kimberly, of Lewistown. He was a graduate of Lewistown High School, Class of 1984. Gary also graduated from Blue Rock Vocational School as a certified electrician. He was a retired U.S. Navy veteran.
Gary was a member of Christ Community Church in Selinsgrove, where he led the men’s ministry program. He was a believer in the Gideon philosophy that each man be ready to do God’s will at any time. Along with his wife, Joyce, they were always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. Gary was larger than life with an incredible sense of humor. He was an avid gardener, kept a neat yard and
enjoyed socializing with his neighbors. Bill graduated from Juniata Joint High School He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in Germany as an MP. He owned and operated Dressler’s Barber Shop in Mifflin for more than 50 years. It was not only a barber shop, but a place for friends to gather. As a teenager, Bill set bowling pins by hand and had several other jobs. He was a Christian by faith. He was an avid Eagles and Phillies fan and enjoyed skiing, hunting, and traveling to Benezette to see the elk. He valued his friends and loved his
family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He formerly managed the J&J Distributer’s softball team and served as catcher, when needed. He was a Milford Township supervisor and a member of Union Lodge 324 F&AM, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, the American Legion and the Loyal Order of Moose. His funeral was Monday, Oct. 4, at Cedar Grove Brethren In Christ Church, 287 Deerville Road, Mifflintown, with retired pastor, Jennifer Heikes, officiating. Interment

Steven John Dulack, 71, died May 20, 2021, after a painful and prolonged sparring with mixed dementia. Melancholy yet sanguine — “luck of the draw,” he would say when any tragic or joyous life circumstance would present. Medic in Vietnam when the next guy stayed stateside; he was extremely proud of that accomplishment at just 18 years old. So when he realized the poisoning from agent orange caused his mixed dementias, you could have knocked him over with a feather. His country wouldn’t do something like that to anyone, “would they?” Then

Born May 10, 1929, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Fay T. and Angeline (Bookwalter) Eckhard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by; his wife, Alice J. When he could somewhat grasp that he had been resuscitated, causing brain damage, all he could do was shrug his shoulders. A luck of the draw shrug. Five months and two awful nursing facilities later, he would thony Ruby. Robert was the last of his immediate family. He is survived by; a granddaughter, Traci L. Yeater, of Sunbury; and a great-granddaughter, Kayla N. Sullivan, of California. Robert entered the United States Marine Corps and fought in the Korean War from 1948-1952. He was a member of the Lewistown Moose Lodge No.143 and a life member of VFW Post 7011. Most of his life he worked at the American Viscose Company and later for Guardian Industries where he retired in 1994. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Steve was quick with a quirky joke and deep guffaw and at times laughing himself onto the floor. One of his favorite sayings was “monkey see, monkey want.” A take on the oft-used phrase, always a sure bet for a smile and giggle and laugh. It was just so funny to hear him describe mass consumerism in such a simple yet funny way. He often recalled finding the WKRP in Cincinnati turkey giveaway episode so funny he laughed into the next show and each time he re-
lived it as though it was the first airing. He had a unique outlook on life in general and spent little time on actual nonsense. He flew or drifted above the mundane and lived an original, authentic- to-him life. He wasn’t given to silly romance or grand gestures, but he was a steady constant. He could be counted on to keep his word; work thoroughly, independently and with a minimum of fanfare. He complained not at all and was not given to argument. He sought adventure in small towns, trout streams, forest walks and picture taking drives. Although proud of his service to the commonwealth, he truly always
had the artist’s eye. All you had to do was ask him! He was, after all — according to him, The Big It; the only pebble on the beach; the almost famous photographer ‘Etienne duLac.’ His photography was award-winning and often coveted in his wife’s boutique. A renaissance man for sure, an individualist most certainly. Truly one of a kind, no one could ever compare to him. Someday I might be able to think of a world without Steve Dulack, but I will never be able to think of a world without Steebie. Steve — a tangy yet sweet offering with a thick protective peel. Born on Nov. 29, 1945 in Beale Twp., Juniata County, she is a daughter of the late Darrell and Ruth (Dean) Tanner. On July 5, 1968, she married her husband, Jesse D. Ehrenzeller with whom she was blessed to share over 53 years of marriage. In addition to her husband, she is survived by: her sons, Christ D. Ehrenzeller and his wife Kristi of Port Royal, Scott A. Ehrenzeller and his wife Becky of Mifflintown, and Joe L. Ehrenzeller and his companion Amanda Conn of Port Royal; siblings, Janice Kehler and her husband Stu of Port Royal, Carol Tanner of Mifflintown, and
Dallas Tanner and his wife Joyce of Strodes Mills; and eight grandchildren, Rory Ehrenzeller, Tucker Ehrenzeller, Trapper Ehrenzeller, Gunner Ehrenzeller, Clay Ehrenzeller, Waylon Ehrenzeller, Wyatt Ehrenzeller, and Chase Ehrenzeller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Doug Tanner. Beatrice was a 1964 graduate of Juniata Joint High School in Mifflintown and was a proud farmer’s wife and homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and gardening; however, her greatest joy came from time spent with

In addition to his parents [KB1], and first wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth B. Forrey, Daniel B. Forrey and a sister Mary Hargreaves. His memberships included the New Beginnings Community Church, Spruce Hill and the Brick Layers and Allied Craft Local 5-PA, Harrisburg. Before moving to Juniata County, Merle and his family lived in Lancaster, where he worked as a brick layer. He moved to East Waterford in 1979 to own and operate the Tuscarora Creek Campgrounds and the 75 Restaurant, better known as “The
Dairy Dine.” Merle enjoyed fishing and hunting in his earlier years and most recently enjoyed working in his woodshop building different wood projects including barn quilts. Merle was always kidding people so as to put a smile on their face. He was loved by all who met and knew him. He will be sadly and greatly missed. James E. “Jimmy” Gill IV, 29, of Mifflintown, passed away at 4:45 p.m. on Sept. 21, 2021, on Old Willam Penn Highway, Thompsontown (Walker Township), due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Born on April 7, 1992, in Franklin, Venango County, he is the son of his surviving parents, James E. and Cassandra L. (Spade) Gill III. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving companion, Carly R. Mohr with whom he
resided; three daughters, Laveira, Shae and Lindi; a sister, Sondra L. Gill and companion DeVante Jones and their children DeVante Jr. and Jatavious of Mifflintown; and his paternal grandparents, James E. Jr. and Ruthann (Varner) Gill of Tylersburg, Clarion County. He was employed at Cabinet Works in Thompsontown for the past eight years. He belonged to the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local No. 426. Jimmy loved the outdoors, tending to his garden with his green thumb. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed hiking, skydiving, hunting mushrooms and caving; however, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his children and dog, River. Blain Ray Hackett, 82, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2021. Born July 30, 1939, in Milroy, to the late Lester Robert and Huldah (Wagner) Hackett. He is preceded in death by his stepmother, Elizabeth (Betty) Levesque Hackett; brother, John Hackett; and his sister, Carol O’Brien. Surviving Blain is his loving wife, Nancy (Patton) Hackett; sons, Sherman Robert Hackett and Joseph Ray (Ludmy) Hackett; daughter, Anne Patton (Danny) Kaiser; his brother, Wayne (Bonnie) Hackett and sisters, Susan (Sam) Stout and Patti Vogt; as well as four grandchildren. Blain was a Petty Officer of the U.S. Navy where he served from 1957 through 1961. After his military career, his employment included Vector Avionics, NARCO Avionics, FAA and IS-BAO Auditor. He was a social member of both the Crawford VFW Post No. 5863, Mifflintown, and the Newport VFW Post No. 34, Newport. Sam was a motorcycle enthusiast, who loved the outdoors, spending time at the cabin watching wildlife and hunting with his family and friends. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Born on Oct. 4, 1936, in Monroe Twp., Juniata County, she is a daughter of the late William Charles and Alma E. (Clark) Stuck. Her husband, Howard E. Kerstetter, Jr., whom she married on Nov. 28, 1954, preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 2005. Surviving are: her four children, Connie L. Kerstetter, and William C. Kelley was employed at the Walnut Creme Stop, but for most of her married life, she was a loving wife, mother and proud homemaker. Township polls. She will long be remembered for a passion of helping out the community events for the village of Walnut. Services are private with the Rev. Richard Adams officiating. of her life, she did work at the Zendt Home and the PA Department of Transportation earlier in life. Throughout her life, Mary Alice enjoyed baking and decorating special occasion cakes, puzzles, cooking, playing games, serving the Richfield community in many capacities, and spending time with her family and friends. All services were private with her grandson, Pastor Jeremy Kerstetter officiating. Interment took place at Neimond’s Cemetery, Richfield. Joan L. Knepp, 90, formerly of Lewistown, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2021, at Providence Place Senior Living of Chambersburg. Born May 1, 1931, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Donald Burke and Inez Pearl (Gross) Eberts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by; husband, Mark W. Knepp, whom she married July 2, 1949; and a sister, Barbara Ann Mowery. She is survived by; a daughter, Vicki K. Glover and husband Mike, of Chambersburg; two grandchildren, Kathryn L. Cessna, and Evan M. Glover; two greatgrandchildren, Samuel C. Cessna and Margaret L. Cessna. Joan was a Lewistown High School graduate, Class of 1949. She was a member of
St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority; a member of the Lewistown Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. Joan sometimes worked part-time at Dank’s department store and did seasonal work for Deihl’s Florist. She was a member of the Lewistown Hospital Auxiliary and worked at the hospital gift shop. She was very active in her church and enjoyed getting together and spending time with her lifelong friends – “The Girls.” A memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 120 N. Main St, Lewistown, PA 17044, with Rev. Allen Hulslander and Rev. Charles Hershberger officiating, and special services were held by the Order of the Eastern Star. W. Deen Lauver, 88, of McAlisterville, passed away at 10:46 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 30, 2021, at the Bridges at Brook-
line, Mifflintown. Born on Feb. 13, 1933, in Lewistown, Mifflin County, he is a son of the late William H. and Dorothy (Deen) Lauver. On Feb. 15, 1964, he married his late wife, Dolores S. (Stuck) Lauver, with whom he was blessed to share over 43 years of marriage before her passing on June 17, 2007. He is survived by his two daughters, Jean M. Barnard and her husband Gary, of Millerstown, and Ann E. Lock and her husband Matthew, of Mifflintown; and four grandchildren, Tara Barnard of Carlisle, Marie Barnard of Greensboro, N.C., Lauren Lock of Norman, Okla., and Katie Lock, of Mifflintown. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Cleck, making him the last of his generation. Deen was a 1951 gradu-

His memberships included the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in McAlisterville, where he was a member of the choir, a Sunday school superintendent, and served on the church council. He also sang in the Barbershop Chorus of the Blue Juniata in Lewistown and was a member of the Fayette Lions Club. He will be remembered for his love of music and, most importantly, his love and support for his daughters and granddaughters. He was a wonderful Grand-
pa, always being available for help whenever needed. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 420 Main St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. Graham C. Fowler and the Rev. Virginia Anita Long, 87, of Middletown, formerly of Lewistown, entered into eternal rest on Sept. 14, 2021, at the Masonic Village at Elizabethtown. She was born Dec. 8, 1933, in Middletown, to the late Lawrence L. Witters Sr. and Helen E. (Hipple) Witters. She was predeceased by her loving husband, C. Roy Long Jr., in 2013. Virginia was a past Worthy Matron and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a faithful
member of Grace United Methodist Church in Lewistown. She enjoyed keeping her hands busy and mind active by knitting, crocheting, reading and doing puzzles. Virginia’s home was filled with the smells of freshly baked goods, and her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren. She really enjoyed trips to Cass, W.Va., and the beauty of the land. She is survived by five children, Robin Maynes (Shawn), Roger Calhoon (Yvonne), Jeffrey Calhoon, Diane Long (Niles), and Roy Long (Erin); eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Grace Baker and Marie Burke. Former resident of Decatur, Ill., James E. “Jim” Matteson, 78, passed into his eternal rest on Aug. 27, 2021 at his home in Lewistown. Matteson is survived by his wife of 56 years and nine months, Bonita J. Matteson, two sons; Douglas and wife Vicki, of New Castle, Pa., and Thomas and wife Susan, of Lititz, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one brother, Jerry and wife Wanda Matteson, of Decatur, Ill.; and
numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Matteson was a brotherin-law to Rebecca and Gerald Davies, both deceased. He was also brother-in-law to Thomas Woomer and wife Susie, who reside in Florida. Mr. Matteson was a member of the MacArthur High School Class of 1961 in Decatur, Ill., a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and a member of the Centre Union Church, of Yeagertown, Matteson spent 13 years employed by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management in Washington, D.C., and retired in 1989. He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, having been saved at age 11. He had a puppet ministry years ago at a local church with Cyrus, the old man, and Samantha, a new Christian bunny. He used these puppets to teach Bible truths to children and sometimes adults as well. Following his retirement, he spent time in other Christian activities.
Matteson also had a fervent love of all kinds of music, from big band to southern gospel and most everything in between. He gained and retained much knowledge in earlier years by absorbing all information printed on record jackets and CD labels. He could hear a few bars of a song and tell you who the artist was and who was the band or orchestra behind them, when it was recorded and the circumstances around the recording. Celebration of life service at Centre Union Church in Yeagertown was held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 2, 2021 with Pastor Kurtis Swisher officiating. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and caring for his many pets, especially Miss Piggy. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather, his most cherished time was spent with his grandchildren. A funeral service was Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021, at the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren with Pastor Randy Fiske officiating. Interment will be in Pine Glen Cemetery. ily and friends; her son Tyler was the light of her life. While she was attending college, to her sorrow, she was unable to finish due to complications with multiple sclerosis. She was just short of graduation. She bravely endured and fought many issues and ramifications with this insidious disease, but it was always with a smile. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son in law, Ed Bailor and her siblings, Jimmy and Anne. Mary Jane attended schools in Maze, Baltimore, Md., Cordova, Md., and Easton, Md. In later life, she attended and graduated Believers Bible School after having a stroke. “Miracle Mary” was something that her nurses had called her because despite having a stroke and other fatal health issues, she fought through it all. She was a proud minister’s wife and homemaker who pioneered Light Ministries Church alongside her husband. Her hobbies included baking, canning and pie baking, which she will long be remembered for. While living on the farm in Seven Stars, she was also well known for her hand churned homemade butter. Graveside services were held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, 2021, at the Maze Cemetery with the Rev. David Patterson officiating. Lydia Katie Peachey, of 2070 Front Mountain Road, Belleville, passed away at 6:15 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021, at her home. She was born at 11:36 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, at her home. She is the daughter of Isaac S. and Nancy E. (Peachey) Peachey. Her paternal grandparents are Mahlon J. and Annie J. (Peachey) Peachey, of Belleville; maternal grandparents are

Clifford Lloyd “Pap” Peace, 96, formerly of Lewistown, went to be with his loving savior on the morning of Sept. 11, 2021, at Valley View Retirement Community in Belleville, with his family by his side. Born March 30, 1925, in Hastings, Cambria County, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Annie (Johnson) Peace. band Kerm. Cliff was a graduate of Lewistown High School, Class of 1943. He joined the Army shortly after his graduation. A veteran of World War II, Cliff served with the 131st AAA Gun Battalion and was involved in the invasion of Normandy. For his service, he earned a Good Conduct Medal, an American Campaign Medal, a European African Middle Eastern Campaign Service Medal with three bronze stars, and a World War II Victory Medal. A lover of all things railroad, he retired from Conrail in 1985. Cliff was an active member of the Lewistown Alliance Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and was an avid horseshoe player. He loved watching the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Phillies. Cliff’s curve ball and knuckleball could not be beat. As everyone knows, he would have made the major leagues but “his hands were too small.” Cliff’s family received friends from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Sept. 15, at the Lewistown Alliance Church, 50 Hudson Ave., Lewistown, with a funeral service officiated by Pastors Neil Breneman and John Looney following. Lois Catherine Peachey Yoder
Lois Catherine Peachey Yoder, 92, died Sept. 22, at her daughter’s home, following a stroke and several years of dementia. Lois was born Nov. 12, 1928, the oldest of nine children of Harvey and Anna Hartzler Peachey in Belleville. While dementia stole many memories, she always clearly remembered and frequently recounted details of her family and the happy childhood she and her siblings shared. In June of 1951, she married Robert Dean Yoder. She moved with him and their first child, Karen, to Harrisonburg, Va., for him to study at Eastern Mennonite University, then Eastern Mennonite College. Their second child, Kent, was born during that time. Upon Robert’s graduation, they moved back to
Belleville, where their son Doug was born and lived there until Robert returned to teach at Eastern Mennonite University some years later. Their daughter Kim was born after the move to Harrisonburg. Lois worked a variety of jobs. She received training at Baltimore City Hospital and was a licensed practical nurse, a licensed vocational nurse at that time, and worked in the nursery at Rockingham Memorial Hospital at night when Robert was a student. After their second child was born and during the years in Belleville, she was a homemaker and wonderful mother. When the family moved to Harrisonburg and after Kim was born, she was offered a job cleaning the kitchen and preparing the dough at one of the first pizza shops in the Harrisonburg area, located on Chicago

Judith Anne “Judy” Pennepacker, 80, of Lewistown, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2021, at her home. Born Dec. 10, 1940, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late William and Kathleen (Bailey) Pennepacker. Judy is survived by her sister, Kathy Martofel, of Lewistown. She was a graduate of
Avenue, near the present day LaMorena. In a letter to her sister, Helen, she related that she was going to accept that job because she was able to take baby Kim with her and still contribute to the family finances. In later years she worked in the post office at Eastern Mennonite College. Her fondest work memories, however, were of the years she worked at Sunnyside Presbyterian Home, shopping and running errands for the residents and taking them on many outings. Lois’ first love was her family. She poured herself into family life and raising her children. When her grandchildren came, she was an invaluable help to their working mothers. For many years, until her dementia progressed, the entire family spent every Sunday evening at her
home, eating delicious food, playing many games of badminton and sharing endless family stories and much laughter. In addition to her parents, Lois was predeceased by her husband Robert; an infant son, Craig Lee Yoder; brothers, James Peachey, Harve Peachey, Solomon Peachey and Loren Peachey; sisters Patsy Zook and husband Chet, Joanne Kauffman and husband Leroy; and brother-in-law Jim Diffenderfer. She is survived by daughter Karen (Bill) Dean; sons Kent (Diane) Yoder and Doug Yoder; and daughter Kim Yoder, who lived with Lois and provided much care and companionship. Guy S. Rhodes, 89, of Ferguson Valley Road, McVeytown, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, at Epworth Manor in Tyrone. Born Oct. 23, 1931, in McVeytown, he was a son of the late Roy H. and Belle (Kimberly) Rhodes. His wife, Helen F. (Buchanan) Rhodes, whom he married Aug. 27, 1955, survives. Also surviving are five children, Donald L. Rhodes and wife Mary of Belleville, Karen A. Sharpe and husband John of Lancaster, Joyce E. Bailey and husband Clifford, Frances K. William F. Ruble, 77, of Milroy, passed away Sunday evening, Aug. 29, 2021, at his home. Born Oct. 19, 1943, in Milroy, he was a son of the late Clarence E. and Mary Jane (Kurtz) Ruble. His wife, Linda S. (Davis) (Hunt) Ruble, whom he married June 30, 1965, survives. Also surviving are children,

Also, eight great-nieces and nephews, Jenna, Zach, Kaden, Connor, Riley, Dalton, Emma and Everett, and two stepnephews, Matt and Daniel Jones; along with many lifelong friends. Ronald W. Seby Sr., 74, of Lewistown, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2021, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital. Born Jan. 4, 1947, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Charles and Winifred M.

Earlier in life, he enjoyed fishing locally and in Canada with his wife Claudette and sons, attending his sons’ and grandchildren’s athletic events, and later in life joining former coworkers at monthly breakfast-style get together. He and his wife also enjoyed traveling the country in their motor home after retiring. Bill raced stock cars at several of the local dirt tracks — primarily Reedsville and Port Royal speedways — both before and after his time in the Army, putting his helmet down in 1953. Shortly after, he married the love of his life Claudette. Being a spectator of sprint car racing was always his passion! He sponsored his sons’ karting and micro-sprint racing careers and occasionally put the helmet (Mowery) Seby. Ron is survived by his loving wife, Edith (Cassidy) Seby, whom he married in March 17, 1969; children, Angela K. Stitt and husband Brian and Ronald W. Seby Jr. and wife Julie, all of Lewistown; siblings, Gary Mowery, Rosalyn Metzger and husband John and Harry Seby, all of Lewistown, and grandchildren, Morgan N. Stitt, Hailey L. Seby, Madison K. Stitt, Brooke M. Wagner and Saige E. Wagner. He retired from Standard Steel after 39 years of service. Ron honorably served in the Army National Guard. But his heart was always at Port Royal Speedway. When his health no longer allowed him to attend races in person, he was able to watch the races live on the internet. He also enjoyed driving competitively in NASCAR sim racing games online for many years with drivers from around the world until the age of 89. He was a talented artist, loved to cook, went fishing every chance he could, enjoyed horseback riding and loved watching his father and brother race. Donna Ann Spickler, 84, of Lewistown, passed away Monday, Sept. 20, 2021, at the home of her daughter, Deb. Born on Jan. 20, 1937, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Howard L. Gregg and Blanche F. (Lansberry) Gregg-Shields. In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in
death by her husband, Ray N. Spickler, whom she married Aug. 6, 1954; daughter, Donna D. Pandel; brother, Howard L. Gregg; and sonin-law, Scott A. Foltz. She is survived by two daughters, Sue A. Foltz, and Deborah K. Havice and her husband, Christopher J., both of Lewistown; and her sonin-law, Rodger E. Pandel, of Lewistown. She had 10 grandchildren, Jennifer and Shane Kerstetter, Randy and Kristin Foltz, April Davis, Michael and Amanda Foltz, Matthew, and Stephanie Foltz, Stefen Pandel, Jordan and Chad Colyer, Claire and Thomas Brannan, Jonathan and Leticia Foltz and Paige Havice; and 16 great-grandchildren, Cameron, Whitney, Blake, Ethan, Kendra, Brianna, Zoey, Taylor, Carly, Lucas, Raegan, Cooper, Wyatt, Mattie, Alexandria and Carter. Donna was a Yeagertown High School graduate, Class of 1954. She worked as a nurse’s aide at the county
home for several years prior to owning and operating Spickler’s Real Estate and Rentals and Spickler’s Milk and Ice Hauling alongside her husband, Ray, for over 40 years. Donna was a member of the Calvary Bible Church and prayer garden and was a member of the Fort Granville Grange. Donna loved collecting cow figurines, Native American art and listening to the American southern gospel vocal group, Gaithers. She enjoyed working outside and tending to her flower beds. Donna looked forward to and loved family vacations in Ocean City, Md. As a lifelong animal lover, you would always find her petting a dog at her daughter’s house. You could hear laughter from outside her home when the family gathered for game nights at her house. Donna was known for making the best fudge around, and if you were lucky enough to get some
you always wanted more. Family was always first in her heart, and she was loved and admired by many. Dora J. (Wagner) Stewart, 86, of McClure, passed away Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021, in McClure. Born May 20, 1935, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Joseph A. and Myra (Zeiders) Wagner. Jacob S. Swarey, 89, of 4430 East Main St., Belleville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at his home on Sept. 9, 2021. Born Aug. 16, 1932 in Belleville, he was a son of the late Samuel and Mary (Renno) Swarey. On Dec. 30, 1954, he married Ella C. (Byler) Swarey, who survives at their home. William H. Stroup Jr., 88, of Lewistown, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born Nov. 7, 1932, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late William H. Stroup Sr. and Kathryn A. (Ronayn) Stroup Augustine. In addition to his parents, William Jr. was preceded in death by: spouses, Dolly (McCartle) Cash, Enid (Yoder) Stroup, and Patsy J. William was a member of Lewistown Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and American Legion Post No. 90, Lewistown.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a technical sergeant, and served from 1949 to 1970. He was primarily stationed in Omaha and was a Vietnam veteran. Born May 10, 1966, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of Paul Tassa Jr., of Lewistown, who survives, and the late Linda K. (McMinn) Tassa. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Maben. Jane C. Thomas, 78, of E. Market St., Beavertown, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021 at Richfield Senior Living Center. She was born on June 5, 1943, in McClure, a daughter of the late Charles H. and Erma (Bubb) Romig. On March 17, 1963 she married M. Frank Thomas who preceded her in death in 2019. Jane was a graduate of West Snyder High school. She retired from Midd-West School District where she worked as an aid. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy E. and Penny Thomas and David E. and Kristie Thomas; grandchildren Alissa Thomas, Vance Thomas and Megan Hommel; great-grandchildren Trey, Brian Jr., Sadie and Stephen; one sister in law, Barbara Thomas; and one aunt Beverly McWilliams. She was preceded in death in addition to her husband by one brother, Michael L. Romig in infancy. Services were Thursday, Sept. 9, at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Donna M. Treaster, 79, of Lewistown, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2021, at William Penn Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born Nov. 5, 1941, in Warsaw, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Alfred W. and Pauline Mae (Beaumont) Shumaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Shu-
maker, and brother-in-law, Anthony Urbanczyk. Donna married the love of her life, David Nelson Treaster, who survives, on April 18, 1964. Also surviving are her sons, Eric David Treaster and wife Elena, of Lewistown, Mark Nelson Treaster and wife Kathryn, of Harrisburg and Luke Andrew Treaster and wife Alison, of Pittsburgh. The oldest of six children, she is survived by siblings, Carol Ann Shumaker, of Tucson, Ariz., George A. Shumaker and wife Nancy, of Statesboro, Ga., L. Sue Urbanczyk, of Adams, N.Y., and Mary Coates and husband Dennis, of Catonsville, Md. She is survived by grandchildren, Samantha M. Treaster and Noah G. Treaster and sister-in- law Judy Shumaker, of Warsaw, N.Y. Donna was a graduate of Warsaw Central High School in Warsaw, N.Y., class of 1959. She then received a bachelor’s degree from Albright College in 1963 and a master’s in social sciences from Temple University in 1971.
After graduation, as a licensed social worker, Donna held a variety of positions including Children and Youth Services, the Department of Public Welfare, serving as a consultant and social worker for local nursing homes and finally served as a self-employed therapist retiring in 2002. Throughout her professional career, she was a member of The National Association of Social Workers and The Academy of Certified Social Workers. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lewistown. Serving on various committees, she was a former Sunday school teacher and was a delegate for St. John’s Synod Assembly and served several terms as a member of the Upper Susquehanna Synod Council. She served on church council for several terms and even served as council president in 2011; she was the second woman in the history of the campaign to hold that presidential position. Paul Ammon Wagner, 80, of Mifflintown, went home to be with his Lord and savior on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021, peacefully at his home due to natural causes. He was born June 28, 1941, in New Lancaster Valley, Snyder County, to the late Roy F. and Zella M. (Bonson) Wagner. On Nov. 26, 1965, Paul married the love of his life, Jane E. Aughey. His passing ended 55 years of wedded bliss. In addition to his wife, Paul is survived by their two children, Connie L. Shoop and husband, Jason, and Timothy P. Wagner and wife, April; five grandchildren, Nicolas Varner and wife, Shelbie, Corissa Wagner, Rebecca Shoop, Bryce Wagner and Daniel Shoop; and four great-grandchildren, Liam, Paige, Quinn and Silja Varner. He retired from Dayton Parts as a furnace operator. Paul was a local late model racing legend during the 1960s, 1970s and early 1980s. Dirt tracks where he enjoyed racing success included Port Royal, Hesston, Bedford, Hagerstown, Selinsgrove, Lernerville, Clearfield, Everett and Lincoln. His hobbies included deer hunting, painting by number, listening to bluegrass gospel music and watching NASCAR and local dirt track action. He collected classic diecast model cars and he could often be found on his lawn mower maintaining his immaculate lawn. He loved his family and being with all of them. His pride and joy was spending time with his grandchildren and giving tractor rides. His funeral service was Friday, Sept. 24, in the parking lot of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church. Interment was in St. Stephen’s Lutheran Cemetery, Licking Creek Valley. E. (Alexander) Wagner. Sam’s first wife, Joyce N. (Broome) Wagner, died in 1962, and his second wife Frances D. (Accardo) Wagner died in 2018. A 1939 graduate of Lewistown High School, Sam completed his associate’s degree in graphic design from Denver Institute of Art in Denver, Colo. Sam enlisted in the US Army during World War II. After scoring very high on the Army General Classification IQ test, he was enrolled in Army Specialized Training Program that was instituted to meet wartime demands for both junior officers and soldiers with technical skills. In June of 1943, Sam was sent to Princeton University to enter their engineering program, during which time he had the honor of meeting Albert Einstein who lived nearby and frequently lectured at the university. After only two semesters at Princeton, Sam was sent to Germany during the Battle of the Bulge to meet immediate combat needs, serving with Company C 413th Infantry, obtaining the rank of Technician 5th Class. A commercial artist in the advertising industry,
Sam co-owned Drawing Board Associates along with his partner Kenneth Kirsten, and he also served as secretary treasurer of Brookshire Printing, both in Lancaster. Known for his use of oils, watercolors and acrylics, Sam painted beautiful still lifes, predominately flowers. His paintings adorn the homes of many of his family and friends. Sam was a past-president of the Lancaster County Art Association. Sam also enjoyed gardening, dancing, and reading. A 100th birthday celebration was attended by five generations of Sam’s family. Sam was a former active member of Hamilton Park United Church of Christ, and then joined St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and was active in the Men’s Club. While residing at St. Anne’s he attended daily Mass when possible. Surviving Sam are his son, Daniel J. Wagner, husband of Barbara (Doman) of Lancaster, his daughter, Christina J., wife of Sam Keaton of Eden, N.C., his step-daughter, Rose Mary T. (Lattuca),
wife of Jay Roth of Lewisberry; 4 grandchildren, Kelly (Wagner), wife of David Mastrogiovanni of Lancaster, Christopher Wagner, husband of Gwen (Billow) of Mount Joy, Alexandria (Frisch), wife of Ethan Kinory of Chestnut Hill, and Julianna Frisch of Washington, D.C.; three great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Wagner, Dalia Kinory, and Leora Kinory; and one great great- granddaughter, Leilani Churchill. Wesley A. Wagner, 58, of Lewistown, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2021, at his home. Born on Sept. 2, 1954, in Lewistown, Mifflin County, she is the daughter of Betty (Ruby) Burns of Mifflintown and the late Hubert Weaver. On Dec. 5, 2003, she married her surviving husband, Russell H. “Rusty” Walters Jr., with whom she was blessed to share more than 17 years of marriage. In addition to her mother and her husband, she is survived by: one daughter, Lisa D. Bottorff and her husband Jeremy of McAlisterville; one stepdaughter, Mallory J. Arnold, and her husband Ryan of McAlisterville; one sister, Candy Collins and her husband Robert of Mifflintown; and five grandchildren, Preston N. Bottorff, Carson B. Naylor, Jordyn O. Arnold, Trevor R.
Arnold, and Madison Y. Arnold. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by: one son, Jason N. Losch; and two brothers, Terry Weaver and Andy Weaver. Cindy was a 1972 graduate of Lewistown Area High School and was employed and retired with over 10 years of service to the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives in Harrisburg as a custodian. She was a member of the Brown’s United Methodist Church in McAlisterville where she served as a Sunday school teacher in her earlier life, was a constant supporter of local area blood drives and was a financial contributor to Disabled American Veterans. She enjoyed flower garden-

Darlis A. Weyant, 72, of Berry’s Personal Care Center in Mifflintown, and formerly of Reedsville, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 26, 2021, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital. Born Oct. 14, 1948, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late James Albert and Anne (Cartwright) Knepp. Her husband, Harry D. Weyant, whom she married Sept. 3, 1966, preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 2011.
Surviving are three children, Barbara A. Bratton and husband Robert F. of Reedsville, Bryan D. Weyant and wife Michelle of Reedsville, Brenda M. Feathers and husband Mark of Seaford, Del.; a sister, Vanessa Knepp of Belleville; six grandchildren, Stephanie Stains, Anthony Rhodes, Mackenzie Follmer, Madison Schlegel, Tanza Northam, Tori Feathers; and two great-grandchildren, Odin and Forrest Stains. Darlis was formerly employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Valley View Haven in Belleville.

She also enjoyed nature study and was one of the original members of the Towpath Naturalist Society which was active in Mifflin-Juniata region. Funeral services were Friday, Oct. 1, 2021, at the Port Royal United Methodist Church, 105 Fifth St., Port Royal, with her son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. James Wolfgang and the Rev. Judith Wolfgang officiating. Interment will follow at Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.

Mr. Zimmerman was a 1950 graduate of Juniata Joint High School in Mifflintown and honorably served our country in the United States Army. Earlier in life, he was employed at the Mifflin Creamery and Empire Kosher Inc. in Mifflintown, after which he was employed and retired as a corrections officer with the Juniata County Jail. He also co-owned the A and Z Sub Shop with his

His memberships included being a former member of the Grace Covenant Church, a member of the Crawford-Brubaker VFW Post 5863 in Mifflintown, where he served as the past commander and president, the American Legion Post 298 in Mifflintown, a life member of the Juniata Co. Sportsmen’s Association, and a past member of the Middle Ridge Hunting Camp. Banks loved to bowl, hunt, go traveling with his wife, and will be remembered for shearing sheep locally; however, his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lois Vogt Ziegler, 96, formerly of Ort Valley in Lewistown, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, Aug. 30, 2021. Lois was born on Nov. 1, 1924, in Millerstown, to the late Louis Gottlieb Vogt and Beatrice Owen Vogt, one of five children. She married the love of her life, Dean F. Ziegler, on June 9, 1950, and they shared 43 years of marriage until Dean passed away on Dec. 22, 1994. In addition to her parents and her husband, Lois was preceded in death by two daughters, Lucy Z. Wilson, Dec. 10, 1992, and Kay Z. Atkinson, May 27, 2020; one sister, Emily Vogt Fisher and three brothers, twin brother Louis O. Vogt, Carl D. Vogt, and Dale E. Vogt. Lois is survived by two children, daughter, Ann Z. Grandma unceasingly and adored her pickled beets and eggs; Andrew, Philip and Mark Atkinson, Daniel and Joanna Lauder, Leah, Elena and Grant Wilson, and Max and Rae Ziegler. Additionally 13 great-grandchildren brought a lot of joy to her life, Breaden, Anna, Luke, Lucy, Ava, Jude, Augustine, Susannah, Theodore, Riley, Cecelia, Alexander and Benjamin. Lois graduated from Lewistown-Granville High School, Class of 1942. She continued her education at Thompson Business College, Harrisburg. After graduation she worked as a secretary at Standard Steel until her marriage, then as a homemaker for many years, and then as a secretary at Granville Township. Lois was a member of Rhodes Memorial United Methodist Church, and formerly of Wesley Chapel UM Church, and during her childhood at Ellen Chapel. She was the organist and pianist at Wesley Chapel for many years and taught the adult women Sunday school class. Lois loved people and had fun socializing and volunteering in many organizations. She helped in any way she could, with cheer and unceasing energy; hosting two international exchange students in her home, planting and weeding gardens for those in need, helping make pies and salads at church, and giving manicures and pushing wheelchairs at senior living homes. She volunteered at Ohesson Manor, was a member of Mifflin County
Garden Club, Music Study Club, the Eastern Star, Senior Extension of the 4-H, Mifflin County Historical Society, and a 50-plus year member of the Fort Granville Grange. Lois loved flowers and was an avid gardener. She shared that love of gardening by sharing starts of flowers and seeds with many friends. She also loved to travel and experienced many exciting trips with family and friends both domestically and abroad. A private graveside service will be held in Lind Memorial Cemetery. A public memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021 at Ellen Chapel Church, 11764 Ferguson Valley Road, Lewistown, PA 17044 with Pastor Mark Hill to officiate. There will be a visitation held at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service. Family will provide all flowers.
