Recently Graduating from the Welsh School of Architecture with a Bachelors degree in Architectural Studies My interest in architecture is deeply routed in sustainable principals that not only deal with the built, but the long term effects of the materials used on the inhabitants and the environment throughout the lifetime of use and beyond. I believe architecture to be fundamental in the world we live in and we have an obligation to provide intelligent and well designed solutions to the built environment. Solutions that deal with reducing the impact building and living have on the planet.

Rural Low Impact Learning Centre Anglesey
A visitor and community centre that provides spaces to teach sustainable living and building techniques. Cited within a masterplan of a new localised Low-Impact development in rural northwest Anglesey.
Breathable Building Technologies
CONCEPT SKETCHES These early sketches show my approach to how the building would sit within its surroundings.
Natural Building
The emphasis would be in making the roof a continuation of the hillside with the interior spaces seeming to be carved out of the earth underneath.

INTENSIVE GREEN ROOF Having an intensive green roof allows for the building to nestle into the landscape around it and become a part of the hillside. Using an intensive system allows for the local natural species of flora to inhabit the roof as opposed to the sedum covering of an extensive system.

Throughout the project I have tried to avoid sealing the building envelope. This allows for water vapour to travel accross the envelope which will naturally regulate the humidity of the spaces. Ths also removes points where moisture could get trapped within the envelope which could lead to damage to the structure.
This is an important part of being sympathetic to the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the building is within.
TIMBER DIAGRID The flowing double curvature of the secondary diagrid structure helps provide the undulating form of the roof. The timber to make these beams will come from the managed woodlands of the estate masterplan.
TIMBER GluLam ARCHES Timber GluLam arches make up the primary structure. The timber elements of the structure will be built first to create a more stable condition underneath. This sheltered area will be more favourable for the wall construction to take place. The timber to make these beams will come from the managed woodlands of the estate masterplan.
RAMMED EARTH COB WALLS The walls will be made of a mixture of subsoil excavated from the groundworks for the building and the Red Mud waste product from production at the Anglesey Aluminium plant near Holyhead.
STONE PAD AND STRIP FOUNDATIONS Instead of using concrete foundations the building will sit on a mixture of substantial granite pads excavated from local geology strata (See additional technology booklet) and stone and limecrete strip fundations. This keeps the materials used local to the site and would not have detrimental effects on the landscape if the building were to be demolished.

A new boat building and repair workshop that intends to engage the local community and tourists in the traditional construction and history of the Tenby Lugger.

Sustainable Housing Project Cardiff
High density mixed use housing project in an run down area of Cardiff City Centre. Utilising stepped garden spaces to maximise green space available. Scheme contains an indoor market space and outdoor music venue.
