Codilla camp gears up for intensive campaign
ORMOC CITY --- The Codilla camp held its campaign opening salvo on March 27, 2016 at the city stage as it geared up for a serious and heavy campaign trail. Congressional aspirant Engr. Violy Codilla, wife of incumbent City Mayor Edward Codilla, together with his husband who is seeking re-election, and the members of the team were all present.

Carigara now insurgency-free CARIGARA, Leyte --- The town of Carigara, Leyte is now Insurgency-Free municipality after it was declared last week. The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) declaring Carigara, Leyte as Stable Internal Peace and Security municipality has already been signed. The joint declaration was signed by Col. Francisco Mendoza Jr., Commander 802nd Infantry Brigade and Mayor Eduardo Ong. It was witnessed by Lt. Col. Roberto Sarmiento, Commanding Officer of 19th Infantry Battalion, P/Supt. Ramil Amodia, Commander of Provincial Public Safety Company, and P/CInsp Shevert Alvin Machete of Carigara Municipal Police Station. In his message, Lt. Col. Sarmiento emphasized that declaring a municipality or a city as Stable Internal Peace and Security area doesn’t mean the pull-out of soldiers
from the area. He also mentioned that there are still six (6) municipalities and two (2) cities under his area of operations that are not yet declared Stable Internal Peace and Security areas. The said towns are Villaba, San Isidro, Isabel, Capoocan, Jaro, and Tanauan. While the two (2) other cities are Tacloban and Ormoc. The said declaration will not just benefit the local government but also their constituents as it will attract more investors in Carigara. LGU is eyeing to boost the employment and the local economy and revealed that at least two (2) business companies are already planning to establish in Carigara. Col. Mendoza said that peace and security in Carigara were attained due to the collaboration of the AFP, PNP, and the stakeholders in the said municipality. “The army remains to be peace advocates, protector and servant of the people.” Mendoza added. Duterte came two hours late than the original schedule because he attended a reunion of Roa Clan in Maasin City. Cayetano coincided the campaign sortie with their 12th year wedding anniversary. His wife Lani (who is the incumbent mayor of Taguig City) was with him during the sortie. The mini-party was held in a restaurant here. Vice Mayor Leo Carmelo Locsin, Jr., and his father, the former Congressman Locsin Sr., joined them. Cayetano also talked to some fishermen in the city. Congresswoman Lucy was not present during the Duterte’s visit. Some of those who attended the

They stressed that Gomez and his partymates were just riding on and taking advantage of the popularity of Davao City Mayor who is now leading the survey and that they don’t really care on the presence of Gomez during the activity. Many argued that voting for Duterte is a thing but voting for the Gomez’s party is another thing. As expected, Duterte reiterated his promise to curb criminality in this country during his first six months in office. He also mentioned federalism which will be his government’s main platform. Catholics in Ormoc celebrate Palm Sunday ORMOC CITY – Hundreds of Catholic faithful in the city have joined the celebration of the Palm Sunday held at the city stage. Fr Isagani Petilos, the parish priest of the Sts Peter and Paul Parish led the celebration. He blest the palm leaves brought by the catholic believers. The priest stressed that celebrating the Palm Sunday indicates the entrance of Christ in the believer’s life preparing himself to suffer, be crucified and later on be
glorified just like what Christ did. That his suffering and death means salvation for those who believe. Fr Petilos also reiterated that praying during the celebration of the Holy Week will contribution a lot in order to attain a peaceful and orderly election. He also said that the message of the resurrection would also help people to be inspired and realize that that the country needs to arise from poverty and corruption. RCD

Petitioner further alleges that this first and active registration, however, contains an alleged erroneous entry to the extent that Item No. 2 (Sex) therein is indicated as “Male”, when in truth and in fact she is a “Female” which correctly

appears under Registry No. 2011-0577. The Court also observed that the first registration indicates that she was born at Brgy. Vicente, Alangalang, Leyte which runs counter to what she alleged to be true under the recent registration because her birthplace is at Brgy. 99 Picas, Tacloban City. This impelled her to file the instant petition praying that certificate of live birth under Registry No. 2004-411 be cancelled and Registry No. 20110577 which correctly indicated her real gender be maintained. No. 2 most wanted in Samar nabbed
CALBIGA, Samar – A fugitive finally fell into the hands of the authorities. He was nabbed while claiming his Emergency Shelter Assistance (ESA) at the office of DSWD in Calbiga, Samar. According to P/CInsp Bobby B. Montaño, chief Calbiga Police Station, Jaime Basada y Labado was arrested near the DSWD municipal office. He is a resident of Barangay Buluan, Calbiga Samar and included in the PNP Top Ten Most Wanted, just second among the “most wanted” in Hinabangan Municipal Police Station. People with high caliber of intelligence will surely vote for Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago. This scenario is proven by a mock elections held at three campuses of the University of the Philippines. Almost 12,000 students participated. The mock election was reportedly held from February 24 to March 11. Santiago is the best choice for president, not only by UP students but also by those who are in other colleges. And out of the 11,755 students who took part in the mock polls, 6,606 or 56.2 percent have chosen Santiago. Second choice is Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte with 2,356 votes, Sen. Grace Poe with 1,273, Liberal Party bet Manuel Roxas II with 641 and Vice President Jejomar Binay with 288. And a total of 591 students did not choose any of the candidates for president. T h e m o c k polls show that people with high caliber of intelligence wouldn’t mind if Santiago is physically unfit to lead this country. Health is not an issue for them. But one thing is interesting. This also shows that those students who voted for Santiago would likely vote for Duterte if during the eleventh hour, they will be forced to choose a healthier leader. In the vice presidential race, Congresswoman Leni Robredo topped the race with 4,715 votes, followed by Sen. Francis Escudero with 1,938 and Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano with 1,874. All Bicolanos. Trailing them are Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. with 1,447 votes, Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV with 475, and Sen. Gregorio Honasan II with 474. A total of 832 students abstained from voting in the vice presidential race. They have no reason given. Interestingly, based on this mock polls, it seems that the students have chosen both female president and a vice president. There must be something fascinating to discuss with regarding this issue.

OWWA sets monitoring activity for OFCs in ESamar and SoLeyte

A series of OFW Family Circles (OFCs) monitoring was conducted by the Family Welfare Officers of OWWA RWO 8 to have a check and balance on the developments and accomplishments of the different organizations the agency have all over the region. Bungtod OFW Families Association and Brgy. Surok OFWs and Beneficiaries Association of Guiuan Eastern Samar, Padre Burgos OFWs and Beneficiaries Association, Stacruzanon OFWs and Families Association and Apostleship of the Sea in Maasin City of Southern Leyte were among the organization that were monitored. Organizations from the Province of Southern Leyte were visited by FWO Rodah A. Cerna last February 25 and 26, 2015 conversely organizations from the Province of Eastern Samar were

visited by FWO Jessabel Lucinario. The four organizations, aside from Brgy. Surok OFWs and Beneficiaries Association, were able to attend the wellcelebrated Family Day 2015 and were very much appreciative of the accommodating atmosphere OWWA RWO 8 showed to them. The different organization shared to the FWOs present their accomplishments so far. Padre Burgos OFWs and Beneficiaries recently had their community service through Barangay clean-up and Feeding Program for Day Care pupils. They are also planning to be a registered organization of their Local Government Unit and the Department of Labor and Employment. Members of Stacruzanon OFWs and Families Association were planning on availing of the Skills-for-Employment Scholarship Program (SESP) that (Ginapasabot ang mga tigbasa nga ang maong balita niining maong kolum, dili tinood nga panghitabo. OWWA is offering to qualified active member-OFWs and their dependents. The OFC likewise plans to expand their organization by visiting other barangays for interested OFWs to join their organization. Moreover, the Apostleship of the Sea in Maasin City agreed to help OWWA RWO 8 in hosting the National Seafarer’s Day Celebration 2016. They also have their regular meetings on the 15th and 30th day of the month. Aside from that, the OFC also pays bade to community by giving gifts to the
less fortunate people. Further, Bungtod OFW Families Association welcomed the new members of their organization during the monitoring activity. OFC President, Teresita Pabello were happy to have new members in the organization, for it will be helpful to the association’s future endeavors and activities. Brgy.
