First election-related crime in Albuera?

ALBUERA, Leyte --- A Job Order (JO) employee of the local government unit of this town and a known strong political leader of incumbent Mayor Ramon Dela Cerna Jr., died on the spot when he was recently shot by ‘ridingin-tandem’ suspects. Incident happened in Brgy. Damulaan, here. Town PNP chief P/CInsp. Catalino V Landia identified the victim as Sebastian Latorre, 47, single, a Person with Disability (PWD),

and resident of Brgy. Mahayahay. He was assigned as a sand & gravel checker. During the initial investigation, it was learned that the victim was shot near a sari-sari store. Latorre has just signed a document given to him by a fellow worker in that area. Then, when this co-worker left the area, the suspects arrived, wearing bonnets, shot the victim using a .45 caliber pistol. And when the victim fell down, the gunman made sure that the victim is dead by shooting him again in his forehead. Then, the suspects fled away toward Baybay City. A reliable source told that

Limasawa town gets tourism road upgrade

LIMASAWA, SLeyte – The central government is building high standard circumferential road in this tiny island for convenience of tourists going to historical sites and picturesque natural wonders. Department of Public Works and Highways Southern Leyte District Engineering Office (DPWH-SLDEO) chief Ma. Margarita C. Junia said recently that they are converting a gravel road into a highway, comparable to a major thoroughfare in the province of Leyte. “The road width is 6.1 meters, just like Palo-CarigaraOrmoc Road prior to widening. With thickness of nine inches, this as thick as Daang Maharlika,” Junia said during a project inspection here. The official was referring to the main road that links the two major trading centers in Eastern Visayas

The infrastructure agency is now implementing the P43.17 million road project, which aims to pave 1.6-kilometer bumpy road. The project has started on March 20, this year and the third phase of the 3.9-kilometer portion of the Limasawa Circumferential Road. Part of the future development is to build a road on the other side of the Limasawa Island to fully complete the circumferential highway, according to Junia. The DPWH started the concreting project in 2013 with an outlay of P36 million for 1.23 kilometer. For 2014, the project got a P32 million funding for 1.1 kilometer. The road links the six villages

of the town - San Agustin, San Bernardo, Triana 1, Triana 2, Magallanes, and Lugsongan. The town’s provincial road has total length of six kilometers, but some portions were paved by the local government before the central government invested on tourism access road. Limasawa Mayor Melchor Petracorta said the road project reaffirms the national government’s commitment to sustain the development of the island as tourist haven. “The locals will really benefit from this tourism road since it would be easier for them to bring products to the market,” Petracorta said. The road tourism projects included local roads under the jurisdiction of the local governments. Many of these local roads, which serve as entry and exit points of tourist destinations are being paved and upgraded to

national road standards. In Limasawa, the completion of concreting is part of the preparation for the 500th commemoration of the First Mass on March 31, 2021. The island town is the site of the national shrine where the First Catholic Mass in the Philippines and Asia was celebrated in 1521. Limasawa is a sixth class town and an island of the same name in Southern Leyte, with a population of about 6,000, making it the smallest town in the province, both in population and area. The island town holds an annual commemoration of the first Catholic Mass in the Philippines through the Sinugdan Festival every March 31. Aside from its rich history, the town is also endowed with natural wonders. The island is surrounded with clear blue waters and white sand beaches. RCD

But the candidate retired Court of Appeals Associate Justice Vicente “Ching” Veloso who’s eyeing for the seat of the 3rd Legislative District of Leyte just ignored the letter. Col Mendoza said that it is the best way to do when a candidate receive a letter asking for fee for Permit to Campaign (PTC) by ignoring it. But Col. Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada and Bong Revilla were imprisoned not because they were convicted. That truth is, that they were put into jail because Aquino administration hates them. And, Enrile should have been still inside the jail if not because of his age. They are not convicted yet. Not even an arraignment of the case that was filed against them was conducted. One of the reasons why they are still inside is, that the case filed against them (including that of Enrile, of course) is non-bailable. If the two are out of the cage this election period, they should have been a real threat to the Aquino administration. Another thing is, the Aquino government won’t allow any idea of letting them come out of the prison. Now Senator Bongbong Marcos is slowly becoming threat. He is doing well at the surveys. And if he becomes Vice President of the country, that would mean – a step away into the palace. There would be a big possibility for him to become the President in 2022. Just recently, some of the Aquino administration’s dummy groups, has filed a P205-million plunder complaint against the Sen. Marcos. The group calls itself the iBalik ang Bilyones ng Mamamayan (iBBM). It is asking the Office of the Ombudsman to investigate Sen. Marcos for alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam. The group alleged that Marcos is one of the senators who transacted with pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles. The filing of the case is very timely for Marcos’ antagonists. And, it might have a bearing on campaigning against the senators. Marcos said that the filing of plunder charges against him is part of the political demolition job and selective justice of the Aquino administration. He also said that he is not surprised by the filing of the plunder case against him. “That’s the problem with us. Everything is all about politics. Justice becomes politics,” he said in a mix of Filipino and English. “That’s what they do, if you’re not an ally you will be charged. If you’re an ally even if you’re involved they do nothing. That’s why we are victims,” he added. The senator is right. This administration is really a hater administration.

Don’t let the people do the move to fight these goons, Gov Tan appeals to the PNP

Samar Governor Sheree Ann Tan-De los Santos

CATBALOGAN CITY -- Samar Governor Sheree Ann Tan-Delos Santos recently appealed to the hierarchy of the Philippine National Police in the region to be fair to all the political groups in order to stop the concurrent criminality that is happening in the province. Tan-Delos Santos, a re-electionist of the Nacionalista Party, has made the appeal after a political leader

survived an ambush last March 5 that led to the death of a 14-yr old girl Angel Baylon. The incident happened in a beach in Calbayog City and the wounding of another supporter, certain Potpot Salvame Brgy. Guinabaoyan of Calbayog City who likewise was able to escape another ambush incident recently. Gov. Tan-Delos Santos, in her appeal told media that she has already contacted PNP Reg. 8 Director P/ CSupt. Jose Erwin Villacorte several times to report that there are salvaging and shooting to death incidents in her province but she was just told by the police that incidents were just land dispute-related. The governor said that the PNP seems to be failing to conduct a thorough investigation over the said shooting and seemed not interested to give action on these incidents as she was only informed that investigation shall be conducted first. But the governor said she doesn’t believe that PNP has claimed.

“For her, she said that the incidents were all politicallymotivated. And that all of the victims were her supporters, she stressed. I’m not asking for your support, the Governor in her appeal want to tell P/CSupt. Villacorte. But just be fair to all political groups and do not make yourself to serving only one politician. The governor felt the PNP is siding with the Liberal Party especially that the brother of Secretary of the Interior and Local Government Mel Sarmiento is running for the First Congressional District of Samar that can order the police to side with them. Why is it that out coordinators is being shot? If you say that it is insurgency, is there an insurgency problem in Sta Margarita? I see no insurgency in that town. Look at the situation thoroughly and don’t wait that the governor and the residents of this province will lose respect with the police because election just passes by.” Gov.

RCD
