Security drill held at Tabango NGCP power station
TABANGO, Leyte -- During a recent security drill, government forces were able to protect a power station of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) here. The security drill which were participated by members of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Army was successful, the government forces were able to neutralize the armed men who supposedly attacked the power station to sabotage operation. Bernard R. Domingo, District Security Officer of DI-VSD,
explained during the interview that it was the first time for the company to conduct this kind of event. He called the drill as a large scale drill because of the participation of the members of the PNP and the military, a kind of drill which did not happen during the previous security drills. He said that Tabango power station was the area preferred because it is one of the most important power stations of the company. Engr. Louise Barameda, the power station manager of the Tabango power station disclosed
that the station distributed more than 400 megawatts of power to Cebu, Negros, and Panay provinces. He said that sabotaging this power station would mean a total collapse of energy power to the businesses in Regions 6 & 7. This is why there is a need to be prepared in case untoward incident happens. During the drill, armed men reportedly took over the power station and taking the guards and employees as their hostages. They were able to invade the control rooms and burned down a portion of the building. Fortunately, some of
the employees were able to contact the police and the military which prompted the rescue and clearing operation. The government force used an Armored Personnel Carrier V-150 in order to overpower the attacking armed men. And then, a number of employees were wounded and a rescue team arrived followed by responding fire trucks from Tabango and Villaba Fire stations. The wounded employees were immediately brought to the hospital while arrested armed men were brought to the local police station. RCD

Lately, China has presented a new map of China Sea in order to solidify its claim of the disputed area. The map shows that the entire China Sea including those areas that are inside the exclusive economic zones of the neighboring countries, and it seems that all islands in the Spratlys now belong to this big bragger country in Asia. A brave Philippine legislator has called on other claimants such as Vietnam and Japan to bring the matter to the international court in order to stop China from claiming the area. He also articulated that if ever China will not halt its claim of the Spratlys, it might result to a maritime crisis or even a naval war. What is really lying beneath this controversial sea? Perhaps, there are millions of barrels of oil. Or, million tons of gold. Or, there is a hidden city under the sea full of treasured ancient jewelries. Or, even a million bags of abacus. Why is it that China is so rock-solid in claiming the area and does believe that any other country around the world has no right whatsoever to claim any of the island in the Spratlys? Meanwhile, the government spent almost millions of pesos for President Noynoy Aquino's recent state visit to Japan. What so especial with that trip? The President, during the visit, has tried to influence the Japanese government to amend its constitution to give a way for the Japanese Imperial Army to extend help to its neighbors in case China levels up its claim of Spratlys. It was learned that under current Japanese Constitution, the Japanese government cannot, by all means, extend military assistance to its neighboring countries even if the need to help is at hand. Which means, the Philippines cannot count on any help from Japan in case China stages a maritime war against the Philippines. Amendment of the Japanese Constitution would mean a hope for the Philippines to seek help from Japan. The thing is, it seems that China seems to be never frightened of any country in the world including US. Perhaps, China has discovered a very important jewel lying beneath the China Sea. That particular jewel might be much worth and enough reason for the Chinese to die for. They are even installing military bases in the area which practically indicates that they are willing to stage fight against anybody who may hinder their plans.

What is beneath the Spratlys?
DILI man kita abogado pero duna sab tay nahibal-an mahitungod niining balaod.

Less "San Juan" beach-goers this year ORMOC CITY - Beaches were not as crowded as previous years. "San Juan" celebration appears to be fading and traditional catholics seem to be losing interest. The less crowd was noticed by the members of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary District-Eastern Visayas (CGADEV) which is based in Ormoc when they conducted monitoring and seaborne patrolling during the celebration. Rescue and medical personnel were also detailed for possible untoward incidents. Commodore Jimmy Elazegue said during an interview that they presumed
that less crowded beaches were due to the effect of Super Typhoon Yolanda. That, people were not really prepared to celebrate this year. But observers told that beach-goers were not keen to swim because of the low-tide. Elazague revealed that monitoring and patrolling activities were conducted from Barangay Naungan to Barangay Ipil shorelines. He informed that the squadron received no casualty report. It was also noticed that there were less number of kids pouring and showering water to by-passers and commuters. Some children fled and hid when they noticed a camera filming them. RCD

that it is the first time for them to do such kind of activity. He explained that they have come to a consensus after the neighbors informed them about a motorboat race that day. Immediately, willing participants were informed and a total of 13 boat owners were gathered to start the contest. The criterion was very simple --- the fastest boat wins the price. The contest was a 2-round kilometer
lap for five hits. Each hit has a winner. Declared winners were Rolando Abapo, 1st price, Dodong Amorin, 2nd price and Ronnie Abapo 3rd price. The winners received P500, P400, and P300 respectively with 3 liters of special gasoline each for every participant.
