Also, in her part, Ms. Maricel Reyes-Ngo, Vice President for Business Services, said that the awarding ceremony marked the history of the 1st ever business award activity which was the result of the collaboration between the local government unit and city business chamber. Emil Tingson, the city licensing officer, in his part, said that in the past, the criteria were limited to how much taxes these businesses paid to the LGU, hence it was called “Business Taxpayer of the Year” awards. DPWH to step up implementation of Albuera-Burauen road project CARIGARA, Leyte -- The implementation of AlbueraBurauen road project is expected to be completed next year. This will likely happen after the Second Leyte Engineering District of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has reportedly allocated an additional P50 million for the completion of such project. District Engineering Office has informed that the amount is enough to complete the bridge that would connect the last village of Burauen to Albuera town. Engr. Carlos Veloso disclosed that his office is confident that in such project, at least, only the Burauen side will be completed

in 2016 but the road will already be passable. The Burauen-Albuera project is already seven years in the making, but its implementation is hampered because the road traverses through some rebel-infested villages in the borders of northern and western Leyte and part of the road were damaged by three typhoons – Yolanda, Ruby and Senyang. Both residents of Albuera and Burauen think that the road, not only will improve the economic and trade aspects of the towns but it will also give commuters an alternate route in traveling from Ormoc City to Tacloban City and vice versa. ARRESTED. Photo shows Marco Casayas being interrogated by cop after he was arrested in a buy-bust operation

ORMOC CITY – A teenager, who is reportedly a son of a former big time illegal drug trader, was arrested in a recent buy-bust operation conducted in Bliss village, Brgy. San Isidro, by elements of Police Station 3. The arrested teen was identified by P/Insp. Tomas Serrano, OIC of Police Station 3, as certain Marco Casayas y Estudillo, 18 year old, single and a resident of said barangay. Seized from Casayas were the P200 marked-money, 4 small packs of suspected shabu and drug paraphernalia being kept inside a small face powder container. During an interview, the suspect denied the accusation

while crying hard though, he didn’t admit that he is or is not into illegal drug. According to Barangay Chairman Victorino Cuizon, the arrested teenager is the son of Chito Lagahit, who was arrested earlier for allegedly involvement in the illegal drug trade. Lagahit is still locked up in jail today facing criminal charges. He said he believed that the father might have commissioned his son to continue the illegal business to support family needs. Violation of RA 9165 will be filed against the arrested teen while still locked up in PS3 detention cell. Some barangay officials witnessed the raid. RCD

Ormoc’s No. 3 most wanted person arrested in Cebu CEBU CITY -- One of the suspects behind the killing of a Barangay Chairman in Ormoc City in the year 2002, has fallen in the authority’s net, when he was apprehended by joint-force from the Ormoc City Public Safety Company (CPSC), the CIDG8 and Mandaue City Police Office. The arrest took place in Brgy. Tunghaan, Minglanilla, Cebu, early morning of December 10. CPSC Acting Commander P/CInsp. Joel R. Camacho identified the suspect as one Eleuterio Cataag y Collano, 44, a.k.a Randy Sugat, and a resident of Brgy. Leondoni, Ormoc City. He was arrested with his live-in partner. During a media presentation, Camacho said that the arrested suspect was one being tagged as one of those who were responsible of shooting Chairman Jolly Dejon of Brgy. Batuan, Ormoc City on October 19, 2002. Dejon was reportedly shot while seating on a chair outside the Barangay Hall.

Cataag, along with Danny Dañas (deceased), Roel Refuerzo, Roel Paredes and Jose Entero, all at large did the crime with intention. All other suspects are still at large until now. Camacho also disclosed that the three other co-accused in the killing of the Chairman are now subject of a manhunt operation. He appealed to the public to help them find the other suspects. Cataag, in an interview, denied involvement in the killing and said he has no knowledge at all about such killing. He said that does not even know the other suspects except for Roel Peredes whom he described as a friend being a resident of Brgy. Manlilinao. He added that he left Ormoc after their former Barangay Chairman Eluterio Collano, asked his mother for him to leave their place after he was allegedly waylaid by unidentified persons while on his way home. He also said that their barangay chairman was worried, because they do not know the perpetrator that shot him, and that their house might be strafed also. He said that he went to see his siblings in Manila but was surprised to hear from his siblings in Ormoc that he was being tagged as one of those who are responsible of killing that barangay chairman. He said he didn’t even know these people except Roel Paredes. No bail was recommended by the Judge Apolinario Buaya of the RTC Branch 35 here. RCD

Reported cases about abuses on women increases ORMOC CITY – Women in this city, particularly the battered wives are becoming more conscious of their rights these days. They are also aware that there is now a particular law that protects them from abusers. The law is RA 9262 or the Protection against abuses on Women and Children. This is the reason why reported cases of abuses has increased this year as compared to that of last year, based on the record of the Protection Services Unit of the City Social Welfare and Development Office. PSU Head, Ms Gloria C. Malazarte, Social Welfare Office 3 revealed that the reported cases has increased from 200 in 2014 to 238 this year based on the monitoring data from the month of January until the end of the year. And, of 238 cases, 106 is

physical abuses; 61 is psychological; 70 is economic and one sexual abuse. However, Malazarte informed that of many complaints that reached her office, not even more than 2% have reached the court. The reason is that, most of the victims prefer an outside the court settlement. And that wives, rather desire to reconcile with their husbands and not to impair more their husbands’ reputation. Except in cases, where the extent of abuse committed is already “irreconcilable.” Malazarte also disclosed that her office continues to implement programs that are aimed to curb, stop or eradicate abuses on women. One of the programs is dubbed as “Mental Health and Psycho-social Support program”. Just recently, Malazarte continued, that a similar activity was held at Pongos Hotel and 20 wives were invited to participate. ATT

what does he mean with “God save the Philippines?” He means that if Duterte loses, the Philippines is saved by God, right? According to Elizondo, millions of people in this country are “averse to change”. The voters are just waiting for the politicians who are willing to buy their votes. The corrupt will just again use their money to add more injury to the already-

Meaning, he is just wholeheartedly speaking about reality in this country ---that, there is really no more hope to change this country. And even if Duterte wins, he might be assassinated before he finishes his term.

This country is really hopeless. Really hopeless. There might be those few who believe that there is still a chance to change the country but many are just hopeless to believe, hopeless to support advocacies of change and hopeless to accept radical changes even if needed. There is no more hope in removing politicians, eradicating criminal syndicates particularly those involved in illegal drug business, stopping smuggling and halting the economic sabotaging. The mentality of hopelessness is clearly displayed in an article written by certain former city councilor Ernesto Elizondo of Cebu City, published in Sun Star Cebu, in its December 13, 2015 issue. His article shows that he is not a Duterte supporter. Elizondo strongly argued that Duterte is not the answer for this country. Actually, he is trying to say that there is no more answer. He seems aware of Duterte’s platform of government as he mentioned that the Davao City Mayor has “vowed to solve criminality, eradicate the drug menace and wage war against crime syndicates and drug lords and fight relentlessly t h e corrupt government officials including corrupt senators, congressmen, governors, mayors and barangays officials” Elizondo agreed that Duterte’s vision is laudable but stressed that these “laudable” platform is not achievable because of the following realities: 1) according to him, after his “some soul-searching” effort, he realized that Duterte is only the modern version of Don Quixote of La Mancha who was trying to fight a windmill. The “windmill” he is referring to, according to him, are the corrupt politicians, criminal syndicates, drug lords involved in narco-politics, common scoundrels and criminals, dirty businessmen, smugglers and economic saboteurs. Elizondo emphasized that these people will surely be working hard for Duterte’s defeat in May 2016 elections. In his last phrase, Elizondo said “Woe to the poor Filipinos and God save the Philippines.” What does he mean by this? Who are these poor Filipinos he is referring to? Clearly, Elizondo means that those who believe and support Duterte’s bid are ---poor Filipinos who are destined to be disappointed comes May 2016 elections. And

Unsaon man gud nga ang Zamboanga man gud ang nag-post niini sa ilang Facebook account aron i-promote and tourism. Kon gusto sa uban, wala man tingale’y mopugong nila. Kinsa man ang magboot nila? Ila man kanang lugara. Sila man ang mobayad sa koryente. Dili man kita. Ngano man nga maglagot kita ini nila?

Magboot ba diay kamo nga ako man ang mogastos?

ba diay kita kon mao kana ang ilang ganahan? Basta walay giabuso nga isigkatawo, okey lang. Maayu hinoon kay walay gastos. Sama ba anang tawo nga dili gusto maghikay kon birthday niya. Masuko ba diay kita kon dili kita kakaon panahon nga birthday niya? Basin wala siyay gastohonon. Basin dili lang siya ganahan. Basin aduna siyay problema. Basin suko siya nga magpasalamat sa Ginoo. Basin dili siya motoo og Ginoo. Iya man na. Dili man kita makaboot.

Bitaw. **** Dunay mga lungsod o kon Kinsa man magboot. Unsa may pinaagi’g pangawat. Kon walay ikagastos, dili maghilabot kita. Angay tingale nato kolatahon kon atong makaya. Apan **** Aduna say mga tawo nga dili kon dili makaya, ah.. isumbong na gusto magsaulog og pasko. Masuko lang sa pulis.

Chemical spill in Babatngon adding scare to Red Tide phenomenon

TACLOBAN CITY – Red Tide alert in Eastern LP Issue 50-51-52 (Dec, Visayas is causing people, 7-13, 14-20, 21-27, 2015) particularly those who are living in coastal areas, to worry on possible poisoning. To date, seven coastal seas are now in the list of bays that are Red Tide positive. The recent chemical spill in Babatngon, Leyte is adding more scare. Escudero says SC has final say on Poe’s candidacy MANILA- Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero said that the Supreme Court has the final say whether his presidential candidate is qualified or not. Escudero, an independent vicepresidential candidate, is optimistic that Poe will achieve justice from the high court after the Second Division of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) voted in favor of a petition to exclude her from the presidential race. “Though the COMELEC Second Division decided to disqualify Sen. Grace, at the end of the day it’s the Supreme Court that will finally disqualify a candidate,” Escudero said. “We are hopeful that if Senator Grace cannot achieve justice from the COMELEC, she will finally achieve justice from the Supreme Court.” There are three other separate petitions pending with the First Division of the poll body seeking to cancel Poe’s certificate of candidacy on grounds that she allegedly failed to comply with the residency and citizenship requirements of the law. Escudero, however, said that should the COMELEC en banc uphold these petitions, the only recourse is to seek relief from the high court. “We are confident that the law is on our side,” said the leading

BFAR Regional Director Juan Albaladejo said that he has also received reports that in Barangay Nabungcagan, at least 300 kilograms of assorted marine products were also seen floating at the shore. And in the nearby Barangay Tulaan, the spill also killed at least 450 kilograms of assorted marine species. Nearby town residents and even those who are living in the areas affected by Red Tide are also worried that the spill might worsen the poisoning level of red tide. Just recently, a boy died in Carigara town, about 45 kilometers from Tacloban City, because he has eaten shellfish for a lunch. While Babatngon is more or less 30 kilometers from Tacloban City. According to BFAR, there are now seven coastal areas that are affected by Red Tide all throughout the region. ATT
