THIS ARCHITECTURAL CONCEPT WAS PROPOSED FOR A STUDIO CHARETTE COMPETITION WHICH INVOLVED TRAVELING TO PHOENIX, ARIZONA FOR AN INVESTIGATIVE ANALYSIS OF SITE, CULTURE, AND CLIMATE.

ARCOLOGY | CITY IN THE IMAGE OF MAN THE CONCEPT IS THAT OF A STRUCTURE CALLED AN ARCOLOGY, OR ECOLOGICAL ARCHITECTURE. SUCH A STRUCTURE WOULD TAKE THE PLACE OF THE NATURAL LANDSCAPE IN AS MUCH AS IT WOULD CONSTITUTE THE NEW TOPOGRAPHY TO BE DEALT WITH. THIS MAN-MADE TOPOGRAPHY WOULD DIFFER FROM THE NATURAL TOPOGRAPHY. THE SURFACE OF THE EARTH IS BY DEFINITION A TWO-DIMENSIONAL CONFIGURATION. FOR THIS REASON THE NATURAL LANDSCAPE IS NOT THE APT FRAME FOR THE COMPLEX LIFE OF SOCIETY. VERTICALITY IS THE ONLY ANSWER FOR GENERATING A COHERENT AND MEANINGFUL TRI-DIMENSIONAL HUMAN LIFE.
