TUTORIAL JOURNAL WEEK 5 LACHLAN HINE #640990

TUTORIAL SHEET Description/classification of structural systems: Foundations and footing: -  Footing is existant (no change) -  Strip footings -  Pad footings -  Bored peers -  New concrete stumps for timber deck Primary Structure (Horizontal and Vertical): -  Stud wall framing (top/bottom plate 45x90mm) -  Steel framework -  Connections (standard) -  Floor joints -  Prefabricated concrete

Secondary structure (Horizontal and Vertical): -  Roof sheeting -  Insulation -  Brickwork Identification, description and location of structural materials: a)  Steel – steel framework with corrosion protection b)  Timber – diagonal roof bracing, stud walls, all pine wood (45x90 mm) c)  Concrete – prefabricated walls, footings d)  Reinforced brickwork – high crushing strength of 30 mpa e)  Glass – Glass brick wall

ALSO IN THIS TUTORIAL Also in this tutorial, we all made our interim presentations for AO2, for which I am doing option three, the built detail. This took up a large amount of time, although it was interesting to see what other people were doing; majority of whom chose the Spanman option. However, around three students were doing the in situ option, which I found incredibly interesting as it allowed those students (and through their presentations myself) to see the practical applications of the principles which we have been learning about.

GLOSSARY TERM My term for the week’s glossary was ‘feasibility study.’ according to Don Hofstrand (2013), a feasibility study “is an analysis of the viability of an idea. In terms of construction, it is a report which must be filled out prior to getting approval for a project, to see if the project will run on time and deliver a profit at the end.”
