The flow of the Great Highway, preparation for the new dawn For many among us, the Lafayette road is approaching its conclusion, and finally, for good or ill, we shall soon graduate. Aren’t you ready for the change of pace, the electric laziness of a casual final summer? We all have a great deal to look forward to these next few months, experiences waiting for realization. Let us not waste a minute and let us be thankful to escape familiarity, thankful for emancipation and for freedom from the barren clutches of the West County lifestyle. Now is the time to appreciate our chance to break free and discover life on our own terms, to see another side. We are blessed with the chance to spread our wings and fly on. And do not forget the powerful truth that we are all capable of making change occur around us. This means use what’s available to you; utilize your talents for Good and let yourself grow spiritually,

physically, and mentally. Realize your core values, the principles that guide your decisions and outlooks, and stay true to them at all costs. Align yourself with the cosmic order; be receptive and hungry for nicholaselwood both wisdom and expeopinionseditor rience—they go hand in hand, after all-- and you shall grow. sion for yourself, and be bold. As we take today to remember the past twelve years of our lives and ponder what our future might hold, allow me to put those years into perspective. For the past 12 years of our lives, we’ve been on a figurative treadmill. We’ve been training for a race that, when we first started our training, we didn’t even know about. By no means is that to say that those years didn’t matter. We have done things and met people we couldn’t have imagined as a six-yearold, and are better for it. But, in reality, it was all part of our training. That treadmill, though in appearance exactly identical to those used by your peers, was fully customizable. You could go as fast--or slow-as you desired. The incline changed as your ambitions changed. You could select the exact training regimen to suit your needs. Some of us took it easy on there, never breaking a sweat. Some start-

ed slowly, only to ramp up the speed later on. Others did the opposite. Some have been running all out the whole time, pushing the incline and pushing ryanbueckendorf our limits.
