FACETED LIVING
:
faceted living: a facade renovation
a facade renovation social housing facade renovation of the existing free facade includes the addition of a geometric pattern inspired facade to create dynamic spaces that are different through various units. the self-supporting structure include balconies that are meant to create a different space or amenity for each unit. whether it is a double heigh balcony or unobstructed views, or a smaller outdoor space to extend your living, the building is revived and renovated for a longer lifespan. the divisions between units carry down the load into the lower flors as structural supports and create distinctive views and spaces on the facade by extending each unit or creating and directing views out.

B+H COLLABORATION
art deco luxury hospital
simc pudong private hospital In this project we worked directly with the client to establish design and finishes to be used throught the architecture of the building already designed. The design of public areas and wards finishes included accommodating to the dimensions established and utilizing some Art Deco elements while making sure all requirements for each space were met. The premise of the concept was to create a luxury hotel feeling in this private Pudong hospital. I participated in modeling of the public areas and design of the patient rooms by helping with planning layouts restricted with healthcare facility standards and selection of healthcare approved materials for finishes and fittings.

INTERFACE COLLABORATION

office+hospitality modular floors In the short time I was able to collaborate, my contribution ranged from design of modular floors installation for in office and hotel spaces. I also was able to create renderings of 3D spaces with carpet installation to help clients visualize the space and select a suitable product. I was also able to learn an extense number of the collections available and pattern selections within the product line. By participating in marketing events, I was able to understand the influence of design in business which has in turn helped my communication with business people about design. The process of carpet design and manufacturing is extense and complicated but I began to delve into it by being introduced to textile design and manufacturing practices through factory tours and software training that has helped me see further than design conceptualization and through which I was able to aid in the feedback of design processes within the company.

By taking the selections of products by clients, I am able to direct and design the best way to organize the installation of the modular carpet and give the client a clear understanding of what the end product will look like.

HLW COLLABORATION
huntsman office & showroom
materials corporation head office The client wanted to be able to display the array of materials created by their chemists. The showcase space would need to accommodate a fullsize vehicle and many wall panels that called for a simple layout allowing a flow of visitors to explore the space. The offices were finally to have the same layout in all floors accommoda ng the supervisors to overlook the labs and directors along the perimeter to allow for a community center of work spaces where we included some collabora ve areas for mee ngs and breaks.

REALYS COLLABORATION
luxury art gallery mall
luxury art gallery mall The idea for this pavilion part of the luxury art gallery mall was precisely to display artwork in framed boxes that could be viewed from the various levels. With this in mind each of the two atriums within were focused public areas of both rest and contemplation for the artwork as shoppers passed by from store to store. The art work thus serves as the circulation motivator for the space. In this project I helped craft the sections and details of these areas and helping with selection of materials according to the client’s requests. I also designed the lighting and ceiling panels for public areas while working out fire sprinklers and other services distribution.

REALYS COLLABORATION
winding metal retail atrium
winding metal retail atrium The idea presented by the client was that the main atrium should be featured as the main space of the retail pavilion. The escalator circulation would thus be the focus point and should be prominent in nature. He wanted a metal gun cladding to emphasize the space as it would wrap around the space. With this concept in place coming from the client I worked to detail the connections, continuation and finishes of the material.

changi general hospital
The idea behind this project built in Singapore is to bring green spaces into the building. Balconies with gardens and terraces were the priority spaces. Shading devices, plants and passive strategies are used to integrate green design. In the late schematic stage and with construction documents, my contribution included various technical reiterations and edits of plans, sections and some of the construction details.

entertainment centre feasibility The task was to accommodate the extensive program with a small budget in an existing commercial retail site already divided for various tenants. To unite the site and accommodate the components required by the client, a redistribution of the space was done on REVIT. Through analysis of the buidling code we were able to verify occupancy and get an idea of what the spaces could look like within the plausible site to be rented. The basic visualization of the fit out for the 20,000 sq. ft. commercial building facility was done to obtain a basic idea of the space and construction components that would be needed to get a rough estimate of costs for construction.

packaging + branding I worked with a start-up to create an identity for their brand and a packaging that would be more attractive and stay within budget. The colorful design was to be similar to other products which are available in western countries while also creating an inviting girlie design. We experimented with several identities that differentiated various products within their line.

sustainable home construction
sustainable home construction For this construction project, I was able to understand drawings on real-life scenario and react to conditions in which the drawings did not properly foresee circumstances of construction. Through participating in masonry, carpentry and foundation pouring I was able to see how trades would tacke any construction project and consider their abilities when designing a builiding. My collaboration with the project manager & project architect helped me understand their role on the construction site as well as the way a project comes together when using sustainable alternatives by analyzing the standard practices versus the new ones presented.

forwarding dallas In this project for the Green Roof Innovation Testing Laboratory at the Daniels faculty, we went on to analyze existing or conceptual projects for green roof and wall technologies. by selecting “Forwarding Dallas, I was able to research and understand the types of plants that give way to this new material and practice. By also analyzing the concept of the building form we were able to find conditions that are either favourable or detrimental to living species. Through various scenarios we selected plants and conditions that could be tested in our own green roof for future development & understanding.

These are a few other low growing shrubs that could be tested on the deeper substrate. All of them are native to Texas and are likely to thrive in Dallas. The concern would be...can they survive on this installation. The deeper trays are used for these plants and the shrubs can withstand both sun and drought . They are perfect to mitigate wind at the top and within the the microclimate valleys & canyons since they tend to have a bigger size and branch area. These plants are good with evapotranspiration and would aid in cooling these zones.

STRUCTURE Shrubs would mitigate the wind effects at the top of the building. These plants need more water than moss or sedum and by being placed at the top can get more water from the irrigation system and rainfall can be captured more freely. Planters can be bigger at the top since these plants need more growing medium and water retention. The secondary tier, where it is harder to access for maintenance we can place the moss and sedum since they require less care and can still take direct sunlight and wind they might be subjected to. Lower we would place the more shade tolerant edible plants like broccoli, cauliflower, peas, beets, brussels, sprouts, radishes, swiss chard, and some beans. These plants would still get some sun but not as direct and as much as the top tiers. The water needs of these plants still make it viable to be watered from the terrace if needed. On the interior beds a combination of leafy greens and herbs that tolerate lower sun conditions as well as some of the above mentioned edibles can be planted while the sun loving fruits and vegetables can be planted on the outer bed terraces that face direct south. Likewise on the lower tier we would place herbs and other vegetables that need direct sun exposures. Some of these would be: tomatoes, peppers, squash, eggplants, corn, capsicum, potato, some beans and all the vine crops
