Indonesia consists of hundreds of distinct native ethnic and linguistic groups. The largest – and politically dominant – ethnic group are the Javanese. A shared identity has developed, defined by a national language, ethnic diversity, religious pluralism within a majority Muslim population, and a history of colonialism and rebellion against it. Indonesia’s national motto, “Bhineka Tunggal Ika”(“Unity in Diversity” literally, “many, yet one”), articulates the diversity that shapes the country. Despite its large population and densely populated regions, Indonesia has vast areas of wilderness that support the world’s second highest level of biodiversity.

LEAD School is a Leadership Development Project held by AIESEC Indonesia as a National Project hosted by several LCs across the country. This project aims to enrich the perspective of leadership among local youth on a general perspective as well as provide avenues for local youth to discover the right kind of leadership needed by Indonesia and their city. We believe that Indonesia can be a home to trustworthy leaders that lead positive changes in their immediate society and altogether build a community of trust and collaboration because we build the character and the values of Indonesians at an early stage.

Currently, there seems to be a gap in the image/perspective of leadership in University vs. SMA. In High Schools, assigning Class leaders are taken for granted----bullied students, the bully, or just somebody pushed by the entire class because nobody wants to take responsibility. This section of the Leadership Caravan aims to change the perspective of Youth Leadership at a nearly stage.
Communication is key! We want to give privileges to student leaders to boost their skills in communication, not only through learning English but having an actual conversation with exchange participants on relevant topics like culture, countries, and of course leadership.

It is important to facilitate the proper decision making of what career and college degree to pursue. In Indonesia, some regions think that their people are only limited to certain careers and this mindset has to be changed. We also aim to not only involve students but also parents.
For LEAD School, it’s not just about the students; we also want to involve people that contribute to the entire school community by ensuring that they understand what AIESEC aims to do through this project, why it’s relevant and what their role is to make this happen successfully.
