Horror Magazine Cover Analysis The “Fangoria magazine cover is a more minimalistic example of a horror magazine cover with the title and feature image taking up the majority of the cover with a heavy usage of red and black. As with most covers the colour red was used in order to highlight the title and to also give the impression that the main model on the cover of the magazine has eaten or bitten some type of animal or even a person if the implied sub focus on vampires (from the title incorporating the word fang and also looking like vampire fangs), The red highly contrasts the rest of the cover image and draws heavy attention due to it being situated in the centre third of the cover. Surprisingly no direct gaze is used on the cover image but perhaps it is more unsettling to see the cover model looking behind you as to suppose there is someone or something behind the reader. As mentioned earlier in passing the Headers font resembles the fangs of either a vampire or perhaps a spider and also uses a slightly gelatinous or liquid looking sheen which works with the use of blood in the primary image, the sub articles use a bold typewriter font with yellow text in order to easily distinguish themselves from the main parts of the magazine. The composition is rather typical with the main title being at the top and the main sub article being large and situated at the bottom of the page, leaving the other sub articles to populate the rest of the covers free space.
