Sheriff Jay Jones was one of last year’s most popular runners. Known throughout the community for his generous support of nonprofit organizations, we were thrilled to have him come out for the first ever Run to Read. We caught up with him to find out his thoughts on the Run. Here’s what he had to say: How did you find out about the 2008 Run to Read? I found out about it from a friend of mine who knew how much I loved to run. He told me I’d be crazy to miss out! What motivated you to participate? I’m always motivated to give a helping hand when Lee County is involved, especially the children. They are our future.

What was your favorite part about the 2008 Run to Read? I enjoyed all of it, but nothing beats the satisfaction you feel after finishing that race! Will you be participating in this year’s run? I would be very disappointed if I couldn’t make it. What would you say to people interested in participating or volunteering at the run? Don’t miss out on the chance to help children, have fun, and get in shape!
