The site used to be a public bath has been abandoned for years. However, in order to liven up this community, a project revolving around food experiences is proposed.

RETAIL DESIGN Eko-Lab, a small business owned by two designers, Melissa Kergan and Xing-Zhen Chung Hilyard wishes to expand its present wholesale line and open a flagship retail store for women’s clothing. The enlarged business will occupy the ground floor and the basement of 135 Spring Street in Soho. The building is about 3,500SF per floor and is well located on one of Soho’s main shopping streets. In addition to the off-the street sales, the retail space is intended to serve as an example for wholesale clients on how the clothing may be effectively displayed in their own stores. Standing out from online catalog shopping , shopping in a brick-and-mortar store involves customers in any possible senses via the manipulation of lighting, music , scent , tactile ...

MULTI-GENERATION RESIDENTIAL John bought a 2-floor apartment not only for his retirement but also for his daughter Eva. He used to travel a lot and has a huge collection of kitchenware, porcelain for that he loves cooking. As he is aging, he feels like to see his kids more often. Since he has retired, he now has more time for himself. He is a habitual reader owning a book collection of 2000. He needs a large space for those finished and not frequently used books. He also loves to read story to his grandson. He loves cooking and cooks every day, his daughter and grand children will usually come back for dinner. This family has developed a tradition of having dinner together every day and talk over table sharing their daily stories with each other. Both Eva and mike will work at home sometimes, so that they require a working space. Both their kids need study space and decent space for practicing Piano.

My thesis is to investigate how placements and insertions of volumes into an interior space tests the idea of behavioral modifications through controlling of accessibility, visual and acoustic opacity of the space. Inspired by the post-industrial remains in Brooklyn and tapping on the ongoing transformation of Brooklyn Navy Yard into a yard of creative. I propose to create a Co-op for local artisans in a building located in Brooklyn Navy Yard.

FURNITURE DESIGN

1:10 Mockups: The first 3 photoes record my study process of learning how chairs can be constructed in solidwood and which is a best angle offer people most comfort. It is a 2 month study in DIS, Copenhagen. The final louge chair shown on the right was made in a week. The idea comes from Danish designer Poul KjÌrholm’s Chair PK22. Instead of metal structure, a refined wood structure was designed by me pursuing a same simple silhouette. The wood slabs not only work as seat and back but also a structure handle both tension and pressure.
